Farewell to another childhood icon, RIP.
My coonskin cap is over my heart. RIP.
Grew up watching Daniel Boone and have a couple seasons in my collection.
Yet another childhood icon gone. :(

Very sad. You'll be missed Fess, but I know you're having a blast alongside Daniel and Davy, taming that great wild frontier in the sky!
I just now heard about this here on the UMA first. Fess Parker was a huge childhood idol of mine. I love Davy Crockett and I have seasons one through five of Daniel Boone on DVD. I never got around to picking up the last, sixth season which was released much later than the others.
I also love "The Great Locomotive Chase" which I first saw in class in Elementary School. He was the dad everybody always wanted in "Old Yeller". UMA members might remember him as a survivor nearly driven insane by seeing "Them".
Numerous times I have picked up Fess Parker wines on special occasions and dreamed of one day visiting his winery.
On screen he was all charm and rugged wisdom. I'll miss him.
I always get him and Clint Walker confused.
Ugh. This is too bad. He lived a long life, but it is sad to see him go. My dad is especially fond of Fess Parker. He's not going to like hearing this news.
Just watched SMOKEY the other day! Fess Parker was a part of my youth.
R.I.P. Daniel Boone!
I met Fess and his son Eli a few months ago at his winery in Los Olivos. He was in a wheelchair but seemed very spry and was very gracious. He certainly will be missed. He left a great legacy and some pretty good wine too.
Anybody that wants to celebrate Fess's life this weekend, I recommend going to your city's best liquor store and asking for a bottle of Fess Parker wine. Fess would be honored and you'll be pleased too.

For those who remember Ed Ames (Mingo, Boone's sidekick in the Fess Parker series), here's a clip with Ames from the Johnny Carson show which should lighten the mood a bit. Carson's razor sharp wit is still missed. This one's a classic!!

Daniel Boone is a man. A real man. Have the song in my head. Remember watching Daniel Boone as a kid. R.I.P.
I was very sad to hear about Fess Parker. Of course I remember him the best as Daniel Boone, but I also enjoyed him in the small role he played in the Sci-Fi movie, "Them". Nice to know he will always be a part of our Monster Family of Actors and Actresses.
And, thanks, Scatter, for showing that Johnny Carson clip with Ed Ames. That was so funny!

When you think about it, Fess Parker , as "Davy Crockett", was one of the first "superstars" of TV, paving the way for Adam West "Batman" on down to Henry Winkler "Fonzie".
And what made me sick is "Entertainment Weekly" barely gave him 3-4 lines in an obit. Dixie Carter got a whole page, and Corey Haim gets pages. I still like E.W. but they lack any sense of historical perspective.
Historical perspective doesn't improve the ratings, unfortunately.

I couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately older nostalgia is not really in. Most of the people that write the obits and make decisions on this stuff never experienced even a rerun of Daniel Boone on a Saturday afternoon with or without popcorn. DOH! >:(

The New Media's sense of historical perspective doesn't extend past the last 24 hour news cycle.
