Well, we've covered scariest vampires & werewolves, so after watching the THIRTEEN GHOSTS remake the other night, I got to thinking, man those are some creepy a** ghosts!
So, my esteemed colleagues, what, in your opinion, are some of the creepiest/scariest paranormal apparitions put down on film... besides Casper, I mean?
I always liked THE CHANGELING with George C. Scott. It always gave me chills.
Rob
THe Haunting, the original of course.
Emily from "Let's Scare Jessica To Death"
She was maybe a vampire as well but it was never really explained, just alluded to through out the movie. In fact that is how the how movie was, never fully explained, just creepy as hell.
Hands down, I'd have to say the remade "13 Ghosts"
OG
13 Ghosts had the scary images,so did the remake of House on the haunted hill...but,neither of them were actually any good.
I do like... The Ring/Ringu/Ju-on/The Fog(original)/The Devil's Backbone/The Shining/The Innocents/Kwaidan/St.Francisville Experiment
Not all of them have scary creepy ghosts in them, but they were pretty good to watch.
Off the top of my head: Marley's Ghost, the wandering phantoms & the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come from Scrooge (1970), most of the ghosts on the original Dark Shadows, & the winner.........THE WOMAN IN BLACK. It's not available on DVD to the best of my knowledge, but it can still be found online in VHS. Check out some key scenes on YouTube (the TV broadcast, NOT the stage play).
I'll go with POLTERGEIST, and THIRTEEN GHOSTS (the original). For a book, Dorothy McCardle's THE UNINVITED cannot be beaten.

Hmm,how did I know that if you responded this would be one of them? ;)
I'll take Poltergeist, Amityville (yea I know some are supposed to be demons). I like House on Haunted Hill remake, The Haunting both versions, Rose Red/Diary of Ellen Rimbauer. The old series Ghosts has some pretty creepy stuff and is a must have,IMO. Also is The Grave Dancers as shown here The Gravedancers trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqy11vc_MXY#)

I challenge that....."Haunted" by James Herbert
The girl in 'The Grudge'... that was pretty creepy how they did it.

Very creepy, also the gal in Ringu

Even though I don't think the film itself is very good, Julian Beck scares the crap out me in "Poltergeist 2".
"You're gonna die!"
Shiver.

Great book Doc. Read it a couple times.
The Changeling is one of my favorite ghost movies. It is really cool and creepy!
Oh, definitely, as far as the movies themselves, THE HAUNTING, THE INNOCENTS, THE CHANGELING, THE WOMAN IN BLACK, THE UNINVITED, etc. all were spookier and actually gave me the chills. The THIRTEEN GHOSTS remake didn't affect me that way, but the spectres sure looked freaky! The low budget, THE DEAD HATE THE LIVING (2000), had some gruesome ghosts (or were they zombies?) also, kinda along the lines of THIRTEEN GHOSTS. Again, not as scary as the classics, but some monstrous apparitions none the less.
how about The Messengers...it had some creepy looking ghosts
My faves are Japanese Ghost movies..they tend to be a little more creepier than the American films.
That's why I like Ringu...Ju-on....The Eye....even the Anime Horror is pretty creepy, well some of it is

HEY, NO DISSING CASPER U.P. Not sure if this qualifies as ghosts, but the Night Gallery story "The Cemetery" was pretty creepy. Also loved the ghost from Ringu.

Actually, I'm just covering up the fact that Casper scares the hell outta me! "The Cemetery" was awesomely creepy, especially when I first saw it. And yeah, just as you and Doc stated, those Japanese ghosts always seem to get to me!

"I'm coming for you U.P."
Watch closely U.P. ....you can actually see her hand move...
>:D
Thanks alot, Doc! Now I'm sitting here waiting to see her hand move, just hoping to scare myself... why do we do it to ourselves, dammit?!
I like being scared, not as much as I like doing the scaring tho ;D
Just turn off all the light sources, except the glow from yer computer..block off all the sound...
get right up close to the monitor....and wait for it....

I must'ave logged off last night before I saw that pic, cause I just now seen it (24 hours later)- it's 2:16 in the morning and now I'm gonna see that face all night long! You know, though, I must really be a disturbed individual, because in a weird way, she's kinda hot...

The movie Let's Scare Jessica to Death still to this day confuses me. Are all the town's people under the
spell of Emily. How is it that Jessica and Duncan didn't reconize her(Emily) from the photo, as they were
selling the picture frame to the antique dealer?
