Title: AHI Creature MOC variant
Post by: knewby on February 05, 2010, 10:55:10 AM
We all know how rare a carded Creech is. A bud of mine owns 2 of these and the bubbles are different on the two he owns. One bubble is larger, seemingly to accomodate the bulky body of the Male creech figure. Both are sealed and MOC. I was the previous owner of one of these but sadly had to sell due to my wife losing her job. Anyways, enjoy the pics of the these beauties.......Larry

When this owner obtained the second of these Creatures, he asked me if I knew why the bubbles were different.  I don't know, but I'd like to compare the bubbles to other AHI cards and see if there is a pattern.  Is the Creature the only one with the bigger bubble?  My Creature has the smaller bubble, and he's kind of scrunched.  It's a tight fit.  This one for sale now on ebay seems to have the smaller bubble, right?  And we see that it is separating and the card is warped.  Probably from the toy being too small for the bubble.  So AHI realized the bubble they were using for the other figures was too small for the Creature and made a running change at the factory.  I guess.  I wonder if there are any other differences between the cards.

Odds are they have a number of sizes for the different characters, and just selected a different one during one of the runs.

Yeah, it was probably less about quality control and more about what they had on hand at that time.

Larry, thanks for the great photos..would you possibly be willing to share the story, like Ray and others did, of how and when you came to own these?  Also, I can't help thinking as we speculate and wonder about the manufacturing and creation of these toys, there must be people somewhere who worked making these.  Maybe even some photos of the factory from when they were made.  I read a facinating interview on the Stretch Armstrong World website where a worker from the stretch factory goes into all kinds of detail about what it was like back then, and those toys were only 5-6 years after these.  How cool would it be to track down and interview someone who was there when the AHI Super Monsters were made?

Thanks again Larry, we'd love to hear your story about these beautiful Creetches.

I'm just blown away by these beautiful works of art. So, I don't have double vision, and there are two?!?
Lol!!  Wow, the Creatures are in amazing shape, and great photos!!!! It's always nice to see something
ya don't see every day, when it comes to collecting. Especially AHI Uni-monsters. I wasn't even aware of
different bubble packaging, which is really cool. That's what I love 'bout UMA.....always a surprise.

Thank you to knewby/Larry for sharing and posting these wonderful Creature pics.
