Title: UMA Display at MaskFest - ideas?
Post by: raycastile on December 21, 2009, 11:35:25 PM
The UMA will bring its toy display to MaskFest in March 2010.  The show's theme is Halloween (the holiday), so the content of our display will reflect that.  We had wanted to do all kinds of grandiose things, like 3D displays and dioramas.  But with our fundraising ability hamstrung, we will have to scale back our ambitions.

I would like some creative thinking from UMA members about what we could do to spice up the display and make it more interactive or immersive.  For instance, we had talked about putting vintage costumes on child mannequins to create a life-size display depicting kids trick-or-treating.  The only thing is, mannequins cost money.  We need stuff we can do for free, or as close to free as we can get.

We've seen a lot of creative thinking in the T-shirt thread.  Let's put that same spirit behind this problem.  Brainstorm some ideas about what we can do with the UMA display to give it a little twist for MaskFest.  Something different and cool, but not expensive.  Not even cheap, actually.  FREE is the word.  We need stuff we can do for no money.  We need to use ingenuity and elbow grease in place of dollars.

Thank you!

If you had one child mannequin, you could do a scene of him/her picking out a costume at a store--The costumes/masks could be displayed on hangers.

If you have some one that has a Son thats about 10 yrs old or so you could do a young Michael and have an adult play the grown up Michael.I think having a few live actors will draw a lot of attention to the display?
Just an idea???? ;D

Thanks for the ideas.  Remember, the show theme is the holiday of Halloween, not the movie.  That doesn't mean we can't have some Michael Myers stuff, but I think there will be plenty of other people doing that, and doing it better than we could.  Our specialty is classic horror and vintage memorabilia, so we should focus on our strengths.

I just want to say how proud we are at MASK-FEST to be able to host the UMA display this year. I know Ray and the gang will do a fantastic job with the display and I hope as many UMA members as possible will be able to make the trek to MASK-FEST.

Remember, (http://mask-fest) is a show within a show, HORROR HOUND WEEKEND, and your ticket gives you access to the dozens of celebs and hundreds of vendors that will be at HHW,...FOR THE PRICE OF ONE TICKET!

Also, if you didn't already know, HORRORHOUND WEEKEND will be the home of the BIGGEST HORROR HOST GATHERING EVER under one roof, paying tribute to the late Maila Nurmi, aka VAMPIRA!

Here are a few of the non Mask Artist celebs that will be attending the show:

CLIVE BARKER

GEORGE ROMERO

ELVIRA

On top of that, look for these event and many others to be announced soon:

I'm going to open a new thread about this in General Discussion.  I don't think many people are seeing it here in Shows and Events.
