Title: Been over a year since we lost Forry
Post by: gracebuster on December 15, 2009, 11:56:11 AM
Last Saturday, December 12th FIENDS of Forry Ackerman gathered for cozy meal and some memories of the man who coinned the phrase SCI-FI.

I arrived late, I am sorry to say, because Grace had her High School entrance exam plus my "honey do" list for our upcoming play has just been overwhelming.

Most of the guests had left. But I still got to spend some time with Phil Kimm, newest owner of Famous Monsters, along with Kevin Burns, Forry's executer. My buddy Joe Moe,  was in great spirits, as always. Also there were the beautiful writer Pam Keesey, Filmmaker of the SCI-FI BOYS Paul Davies and a few other familiar faces.

Pam and Joe.

Paul Davies told a very spooky story about Forry's communication from the after life.

Kev and me.

After leaving The ThaiPlaza (although it was one of Forry's favorites, I am not a big Thai Food eater so I begged Kev to join me for a meal in another appropriate place!

There were even MONSTERS on the window despite it being Christmas.

After lunch it was a quick drive by the MINI MANSION.

Then home to think about life without FOrry!

BTW, did you notice the Google Banner reflects the birth of the creator of ESPERANTO today. Right there is a nudge from ol' Forry to not forget him!

Wonderful pics and stories, Danny... and the monsters on the flyer at House of Pies is just too perfect!

A very Forry-full anniversary, well observed. Thanks for the post.

I'm a believer that those little things like the monster poster and the Google banner are more than just coincidences.  Hard to believe it's been over a year...thanks for the post.

Here's another strange "coincidence" with a local Yahoo headline.  It has nothing to do with Forry, but the headline is "Nutter backs Ackerman's handling of S. Philly High."

Who would have guessed the way back from the Great Beyond would be through the internet?

We nutters have been backing Ackerman for a long, long time. No matter what he was handling.

Thank you for the pics. I only met Forry once, but he was delightful. How lucky we (the millions of us!) are to have had an 'uncle' like him.

Dan, those are wonderful photos!!  Thank you for posting them.  I didn't get the chance to attend this party and I wanted to... I have attended most of Forry's parties these past seven or eight years.  There is supposed to be another public tribute/get together early next year in honor of Forry... when I know more, I will post the info.

Thanks so much for the photos and post Dan. Hard to believe it's been a year.

I will need to dig out my photos from Ackermansion circa 1980s, and will share once I get them scanned.

Great post, great photos Dan.  :D  I really miss Uncle Forry, and the weird thing I still have his phone number in my cell phone.....and I can't bring myself to delete it. Too many fond memories. Remember this cover?

Same thing here, only it's my address books--the paper one and the computer one.  Forry's address stays.  I can't bring myself to do away with them.  Forry lives!

I remember the beginning of January(unclear of month/date) 2009 Forry's phone was still in service , his answering machine kicked in. Now that was weird, because his voice occupied the message greeting. I still get chills from that. He was such a friendly man, so many anecdotes. One in pacticular, Al Adamson's Dracula vs. Frankenstein(1971).
