The star had been suffering from pneumonia and died in the hospital. He was best known for his roles in The Wicker Man, alongside Christopher Lee, and TV series The Equalizer. He had been ill for several months and passed away surrounded by members of his family. Edward Woodward will be missed by this community.
Not to mention a remarkable performance (in my opinion anyway) as the Ghost of Christmas Present in the 1984 TV film A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott.
And oh yes, all the other notable roles. A unique voice, look, and manner.
79 is kinda young anymore. I mean, it's not old-old...

WICKER MAN knocked me for a loop all those years ago and I was a fan from that moment on. A consummate actor. Rest in peace.
R.I.P. to E.Woodward, the Wickerman is a true classic....and an amazing performance.

We've been watching the first season box-set of THE EQUALIZER, which was a favorite of mine back in the mid-80s.
