Captain Lou Albano just passed away. Rest in peace, Paisan.
From AP:
WESTCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Lou Albano, the professional wrestler and manager known as "Captain Lou" during a decades-long Hall of Fame career, died in California Wednesday at age 76.
Albano, plagued by poor health in recent years, died at his home in Carmel with his wife of 56 years, Geraldine, and family at his side, The (Westchester, N.Y) Journal News reported.
Albano's wrestling career started in 1953 and he eventually transitioned to managing, the newspaper said. He appeared in the first Wrestlemania at Madison Square Garden in 1986 and a decade later entered the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame.
Albano, often bearded, appeared as Cyndi Lauper's father in her "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" video and later was her manager. He also provided the voice of the first Super Mario Bros. cartoon.
Despite his loud public persona, he also had a softer side, family members said.
"He was very gentle, giving and religious," said his younger brother George Albano. "He always carried rosary beads in his pocket."
Rest In Peace Captain Lou!
My dad had always told me that Lou had graduated from the same high school that he had, but a few years earlier. He was always such a wild character, but I figured that was a just a wrestling persona. Good-bye Captain Lou.
R.I.P. Lou.
Captain Lou Albano, I really loved this guy alot, I remember watching him on tv when I was a kid.
He was the manager of one of my fave tagteams "The Headhunters" aka SST.
I remember seeing that music video too, he was funny.
Then there was the WWF cartoon, so many great Wrestling performers have left the ring for good, I'm just glad he never took the
wrong way out, like many of the wrestling stars have done.
God Bless Captain Lou Albano, Rest in Peace :)
