Columbia got into the game rather late, compared to the other studios that were prevalent from the '30's onward..however, they soon made up for it during the 1950's..
Night of the Demon, although 20 Million Miles To Earth was very, very close. Kept going back and forth for a few minutes before finally voting.
Happily, Sony has put out most of this stuff on DVD. Those first three sound like forgetable mysteries, but "Cry Of the Werewolf" would be a welcome DVD release! I think the only other ones not released are "Son of Dr. Jekyll", "The Mad Magician" and "The Man Who Turned To Stone".
I LOVE Lugosi's Return of the Vampire. That's what Universal gets for not making a proper Dracula sequel.
However, NIGHT OF THE DEMON is, IMO one of the BEST horror movies ever made, bar none.
Hard not to go with 'The Tingler' but I went with-
Creature With the Atom Brain(1955) !
this film just has everything you could want in a "Saturday Matinee" ;D
a bunch of cool flicks, here.......
I really dig the modern take on The Werewolf (1956) that I usually watch back to back with (UA's) The Vampire (1957)
Lots of cool movies here, but for nostalgic reasons alone, i pick Earth VS The Flying Saucers...
i remember being mesmerized by Harryhausen's special effects in this movie as a wee lad. Very impressive!
Dear UMA FANG-MILY,
... I agree with LUNDY: BELA'S "RETURN OF THE VAMPIRE" is an "Under-Appreciated" CLASSIC!
... However, I was 10, when I saw HARRYHAUSEN'S "THE 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD", in its original Theatrical Release. WOW!
... It inspired my drawings, of DRAGONS, CYCLOPS, and, SKELETON WARRIORS, for months, afterward!
... Despite viewing "GODZILLA", in 1956, "7th" was, always, cherished, by me, as my first, real, MONSTER MOVIE!
... A DINOSAUR FANATIC, in my 7-8 year-old mind, I counted "G" as a DINO, with HOT, BAAAADD, BREATH!
EXANIMO EVERNOW,
TIMMY & THE BARON & BARONESS & FRIENDS, GOO-O-OODD-D!, B.G.G.
Another hard choice but I went with 20 Million Miles to Earth.
20 Million Miles to Earth
Man! I didn't even see Night of the Demon was there! I voted for Tingler but I would've voted otherwise...
