Title: Abnormal Brain - Frankenstein's Lab Prop
Post by: Toy Ranch on January 09, 2008, 08:57:03 AM
A UMA friend sent me a link for this prop on eBay and I thought it was pretty cool and managed to get it.

The brain glows in the dark!

Here's the photo from the auction, showing the movie prop and this one along side.

The seller/artist had a link to some flickr photos (which have since been removed?) that showed off some of his other props and monster collection, and recognizing that he was a monster fan like the rest of us, I invited him to join the UMA, which he did.  Hopefully he'll come along and post, he seems like a great guy and I'm very happy with this prop.  :)

Hey, you see how the lower label is applied a couple millimeters too high compared to the original!  Man, what a rip off!  How bogus!  I'm not buying one of these!  Look at that label!  Too high!  At least 7 millimeters too high!  How inaccurate!  How sloppy!  Totally blows the whole thing!  Man, I'm saving my money!  Can't even get the label right!  Oh man, what a gyp!  I bet the liquid won't even be the same volume!

Greetings Shadowman. To post a picture within a post, simply click on the "insert picture" icon. The image icon is just to right of the Mp3 icon above the smiley faces within the post message field. Upon clicking the insert image icon, some image brackets will appear. Place your hosted image url between these brackets. Click post like your posting a message, and wha-la!

Remember, you must have a url of your picture that is being hosted at an image hosting site such as Flickr or ImageShack.

I have one of this guy's jars.  It is one of my favorite Frankenstein items.  I recommend it to all Frankie fans.

The jar is made of nice thick, heavy glass and looks to be a perfect match to the jars used in the 1931 film.  They could be made from the same mold.

The labels even show the small smudges found on the originals.

As to label positioning: I am not overly bothered by the small discrepancy.  (Maybe he could supply the jars with loose labels that the more discriminating buyer could apply himself.)  I figure he paid more attention to detail than they did in the film.

The Frankenstein brain jar labels are one of my favorite continuity bloopers.  Ever noticed that the labels on the 2 jars change?  Yup.  During the class lecture, all 4 labels are seen clearly as being typed.  Less than a minute after class is dismissed, bottom labels on both jars are now hand-written.

Presumably, this was done to make it easier for the movie-goer to see Fritz's screw-up as he carted away Abbey Normal's grey matter.

Also, the brain inside the jar seems way too large for a real brain.  I assume that this was purposely done for the same reason.  Movies have never been subtle when hammering home a plot point.

I think you are trying to show this image:

You need to copy the image address, not the Flickr page.  Right-click over the image itself and you should be able to do it.

I have a Mac, so it's different for me.  But on a PC, you should be able to right-click on the image and see a drop-down menu that includes "copy image address."  Click that.  You should be able to paste it into your UMA posts between the image brackets (which you get by clicking "insert image" in the row of icons above).

I can assure you without a Shadowman of a doubt that Raymond was indeed kidding around. I know Raymond well, and believe me .. he's a true monster rube.

BTW Shadowman, your props are truly electrifying (pun intended)! Very impressive!

Hey!  I thought he was kidding, too.

My naturally sarcastic nature is hard to get into the written word.  (And I cannot stand those stupid smiley faces that people use - yecch.)

I would too love to pick this up, but prefer it in color that glows in the dark. I am also interested in some other goodies from his prop link. Does the seller have an e-mail address I can get in contact with. Quite outstanding work.
