Title: Upcoming SCOOBY-DOO comic book for classic monster and Hanna-Barbera fans
Post by: JohnRozum on May 29, 2009, 01:31:24 PM
I hate to shamelessly self promote so soon after returning to these boards after such a long absence, but I guess I'm shameless.

SCOOBY-DOO #145, published by DC Comics, will be available in comic book stores on June 10th. The story centers on make-up effects and creature suit monsters vs CGI monsters and guest stars a thinly disguised Rick Baker as well as some other make-up fx notables (including some guy named Jack Pierce).

The story is set at the studios where all of the classic Hanna-Barbera shows were filmed (here treated as live action tv shows and movies) and their classic movie monsters are the ones which appeared in shows such as Space Ghost and The Herculoids. If you're a fan of Hanna-Barbera shows from the 60s, you're bound to recognize quite a number of the dozens of "props" which are shown in this story.

For more info and a few representative panels look here:

John, I checked out your posted panel, and found a spelling error!!! Someone put "Touch" Turtle instead of "Touche". I only bring this up because he was one of my favorites from back then, and I still have one of those yellow records you play on 78 with Touche and Dum Dum!

Looking forward to the comic. Thanks for the heads up!

Mike

Good catch!  I read that line as written and thought, "Whatever touch turtle is?!?", but as soon as I read your "Touche" it all came back!  The foil, hat and feather.......

The panels are taken from an uncorrected proof that was sent to me to catch errors such as these, and I did. It must have had something to do with the font used for the lettering which dropped any accented "é" because it happened later in the story with a different word. The actual issue will say Touché Turtle.

As we all know Touch Turtle was Mike "Touch" Connors cartoon sidekick in his short lived animated Saturday morning adventure show.

Thanks everyone. I hope those of you who picked it up enjoyed it. Tomorrow, SCOOBY-DOO #146 hits comic book stores, and while it has no classic horror connection, it's apparently my 100th Scooby-Doo story to see print. Zoinks!
