I love small plastic monsters and charms - but I find them difficult to display. I tend to put them in old print trays:
The problem is that they do sometimes fall out, and I've noticed that the dogs love Monster charms as much as I do, only they love chewing them up as opposed to admiring the critters. I was just wondering how other folk display these tiny little things?

Maybe attach a piece of plexi to the front, somehow?
Wherever I am, I'm displaying my charm. I'm full of charisma. Well, full of something anyhow. Maybe for the ones with loops, you could string them with knots in between to keep them in place and run them along the ceiling or wall. With the smaller ones, because they are plastic, you put 2-sided tape on the bottom and put them in a little display box like they sell for model cars and trucks.

For pencil-toppers and eraser-heads at least, here's a simple solution:
You can get a bag of wooden mini-blocks plus a couple of pencils at Michael's for about $1. You drill the first, cut the second, stick 'em together, and you're all set. ;D

Nice! :)
After trying various things, I use riker mounts now.

COOL DISPLAY, Bobby! Those charms really pop out at you this way...great assortment, too.
On the same order as your paint trays you can go to Michael's and get a shadow box and you can put them on the wall easily. You'll have to stain or paint them to finish them. Nice collection!
I am a charm junkie, so I have amassed a lot of them over the years. I just use whatever I can find to display them. I used to just put the loose ones on a shelf:
I use picture frames without the glass to straighten and hang the machine displays:

I have a little ring case I found at a garage sale that I use for rings:
I have a thin glass case that I use to flatten out folding charms:

And this is my primary wall display that I am using right now. It is similar to what you are using, Chris.

Very cool charm collection Andy! :)
Awesome collection Andy!!! I love those Phantom and Frankie plaques, I've wanted all of those forever but have never run across any.
Great collection and great photos,Andy ! Thanks for sharing.
Ok if no one else will say it I will:... "You'll have to ask my wife."

Packy,I knew there had to be a reason why the thread wasn't worded How do you display YOUR
charms ? You have just answered my question ! LOL !!
The display on the left. How much $ are those worth. I have the same carded one with 6 charms. If it worth any real $ I'll sell it. If not then it's a padded shadow box.

Not worth much - I think there is a guy selling them on eBay these days pretty cheap.
Andy's basement is one of my favorite places in the world. It is up there with the impressionist wing of the Art Institute. It makes me happy just being there.
I am very proud that some of my stuff is on display there.
The monster charm display there is deliriously delightful. It almost made me want to collect charms. Only the blackest coffee and a cold shower prevented this from happening. I was not so lucky when it came to masks. Although I don't have a lot, I have way more than I ever expected, having gotten into this hobby through the action figure door.
It is why I call that mask collection the "Andy Williams Commemorative Collecting Sinkhole"
I remember the first time I bought a mask. It was, of course, from Andy. I saw him at Kane County, and I was admiring a mask, and I said, just off-the-cuffishly, "I really like that mask."
And Andy said, perfectly mimicking my intonation: "You should really, like, BUY that mask."
I thought about it for a minute and concluded... 'hey, he's right. I should! So I did.'
The world is very lucky Andy didn't become a crack dealer. He only uses his powers for good. (I hope).

Awesome coolness. I have some vintage gumball machines and I keep the charms in them. I ought to think about displaying them the way you all have them. They look very catchy.

So what are we talkin here? Maybe $20 for the carded set?
I display my charms with REALLY short skirts. (Learned it from the General.)

I think it might have been $12 - it didn't come up in an eBay search so maybe it is sold or the listing expired.

Andy,
Do you mind taking a quick photo of those jigglers that I believe I see?
Also, there seems to be one in shackles in one of your trays with yellow pants. What is that gem?

Not sure what jigglers you saw...so here are some pics of my collection that I've taken over the years:

No, much smaller - only about 2" tall.
Thankee kindly Andy. The box marked Haunted Kooky Animals brought back loads of memories. My friend Richard and I used to have some of these figures when we were kids and played with them all the time. We only had a few each and then one day he came banging on my door with news that the local 7-11 had a box of them. Only one thing to do.....
First we dug through our couches and chairs in our houses for change.
Next, we collected as many aluminum cans as we could carry the mile or so to the store. Had to ditch the bikes because the bags were too full.
When we got there it was magical. We bought a few each and kept coming back until they sold out. I have a few of these Kookys, but I remembered that the ones at the 7-11 were a tad bit smaller in size.
The athlete ones I have never seen, not even as a kid. Those are awesome.
Thanks again for taking the time to post the pics. I will be returning to this page like it was an on old Sears Christmas Wish-Book, but more importantly thank you for bringing back some magical memories from my childhood.
Sounds like we had similar childhoods. My pal and I used to scout the alleys in the neighborhood to find glass soda bottles to return for the deposit at the corner Tom-Boy store, where we would promptly deposit our change into the vending machines in hopes of a monster jiggler. I got my Kooky Spookys from the pharmacy up town. They had a counter display full of the prisioners and the sports guys. I ended up getting them all eventually, but I had to hustle for the $ to get 'em. I think that is why they meant - and still mean - so much to me.
I have 6 of them hanging here and they are kick to have. Love 'em! I am looking now for a very large white jiggler skeleton I had as a kid. It would break from time to time and my mom would melt it back together. Time to go treasure hunting. ;D

It's not this skeleton, is it?

Very possible. A year or so after owning this one they started coming out with smaller ones in different bright colors. I almost have to feel the rubber. It was a bit different in texture as it was "soft" and "mushy" feeling. However, I thought mine had an open jaw and a bit of black through it and I believe it may have been off white. Awesome sample though!
Maybe more like this one:
It's over 2 feet tall and very soft rubber.

I have one of these coffee-colored skeletons, but as a kid I had the same jiggler in milky white. I used him as a space jockey in my Alien games. The Death Star cannon was his gun.

Wow! Size and feel correct. Mine was a bit whiter. When were these made? Mine must have been early to mid 70's.
I'm guessing you are correct; early to mid 70's. I recall having a whiter one as a kid, too.
Great pictures, Andy! I have to admit, every time I see you guys post about this stuff, I just don't get it. I can't seem to muster up any interest in these sorts of things. But with the boxes and display cards all together like that, I can start to see the appeal. Don't think I'd ever start buying them myself, mind you, but now I can at least see where you guys are coming from. (I hope that doesn't sound like a backhanded compliment, either. I mean it, great pics...)

I know what you mean, Dave. There are some areas of collecting that I just don't get, either. For me, the rubber monsters and monster charms were a big part of my childhood. I guess that is some of the appeal for me. But there's also that "cheeze" factor, too. I like cheezy, stylized monster toys; usually more so than the ultra-detailed collectors items. Also, I was hit in the head with a brick as a child; so that could be some of it, too. ;D
Ok, ok.. I know this is gonna sound like a joke...but...
I really was hit in the head with a brick as a child!!!
I'm not making this up. I was about 3 or 4 I think and I was playing underneath our back porch. My brother had decided that he was gonna "help" clean up a big pile of bricks that were at the bottom of the driveway...and just started chucking them over his shoulder. I don't think he knew I was there and next thing you know, I'm running up the driveway screaming, just covered in blood (I've always been a bleeder..), my mom freaked out when she saw me, etc.. .
A few stitches later and I was ok... and I never got the urge to collect rubber monster charms. So... we'll chalk it up to your childhood memories. ;D
Well, I love 'em and I do not have an excuse of a brick..... ;D
Man, I wasn't joking (really) either! I actually did get hit in the head with a brick, too. A kid attacked me when I was riding my bike through an area of town that was particularly bad, and I got majorly whalluped. I learned my lesson, and you are right - it probably didn't have much to do with my collecting habits.
Well, i'm glad both you guys survived your getting hit in the head with a brick incidents and just have to chime in here to comment on how impressive Andy's charm collection is. I've always liked them and accumulated an average amount as a kid, but simply didn't keep track of them over time. To see such a massive collection on display all at once is truly overwhelming. It allows me to see many i had as a kid that i otherwise would have forgotten about. Thanks for sharing that with us all!
Bump:
Been on a charm craze lately and do not see slowing down anytime soon. Had to come up with a display that worked for my small monster nook. Here it be:
and made this one "shine" a bit more:
You will notice a few non-charm and non-monster items strewn in. I especially enjoy the pirate charms as well as the Dick Tracy pins. Just stuff I think is cool and actually adds to the "gumball type prize effect", IMO. The wood box is just from Hobby Lobby and the silver one is a Goodwill find. Thanks Bobby and Andy for the sending many of these my way (along with the extra goodies) and especially answering all the questions you both fielded about charms. Much appreciated.
Bogey, I like the monster nook, looks like the space I have now (the man cave will have to wait until we move)
Cool charms, I like the AHI looking Frank and I see the golden Mummy has his own tomb!
I also like the Dracula's Daughter poster.
