Just wondering if anyone has heard anything New announced from Wonderfest?...I know Moebius has the rights to the Creature, but as of yet...no announcement 8)

Yay! Thanks for the photos, Bobby! ;D
Thanks for the pics...:) The UMA display looks great and the Linda Miller wall.....Hey there's my pal Cortlandt ... I see his full size creations in the background!
Adam
Bobby,
Thanks for posting these pictures for us non-attendees. As always, it's bittersweet for us. We are ecstatic to see the pictures, but sad that we couldn't be there too. I didn't see everyone at each other's throats, so I guess it all went together without too much anxiety. Make sure all of you take a lot more pictures. We can never have enough.
Rob
Bobby, Thank you kindly for the pictures. The display looks great. The tributes to Linda and Uncle Forry look wonderful. Wish I was there. Thank you, David
Now That's what I'm talking about!...Thanks Bobby for these pictures! I'm going to try to get there next year, but for now this is Great! Just seeing the cool UMA display is fantastic !
Thanks again...

I bet you had to pry it from his hands!
Rob
Would anyone be willing to document the event for me for a project. I am looking for shots of the overall event and photos and videos of the displays and booths
Great pics thanks Bobby, looks like a gas and you guys sure deserve it! Me proud to be part of UMA and to have such friends - put little Maria in the dunk tank once for me!
Met Creepy Jeff at the show today. I could'nt stay for the group photo though.....wife got tired. :-\
Glad to see the UMA representin'!!! 8)
Wow Guys, LOOKS GREAT! Thanks for posting the photos. Hope to see more!
BK
OK, I uploaded some pics to Flickr. There are multiple shots of some stuff to make sure one came out.
The Alien stuff is mostly from Bob Burns. The room with cool monster stuff is the Old Dark Clubhouse, where we listened to Ken Kelly tell the uncensored tales of Jim Warren, Kiss, and more. Then Jovanka from Rue Morgue came in and things got too crazy for cameras.

Aw man. I missed that. I'm still here (and can't sleep). I'll Come by and say hi, tomorrow.
Wish I could be there. Thanks for posting all those great pictures and keeping us informed. Long Live the UMA!!!
It looks like you guys had a blast! Thanks for sharing these great photos so those of us who were absent could experience it vicariously.
Wow, looks like a great time. I'ts killing me that I had to miss this year! :'(

I think Terry grabbed it yesterday. I was at the booth when Terry was talking to the dealer about buying it.

I was at Wonderfest, but I think I only actually ever spoke to Raymond Castile and DrMonster from the UMA. I saw Terry making a deal for a Formex set, and believe I spotted Mr. and Mrs. Severed Head and a few other folks. My own natural shyness and lack of social skills always make me a bit unsure of approaching people I only know from online. The display looked very nice this year. I spent too much money on odds and ends in the dealer's room. I'll post a pic of my swag once I get a chance to edit my pics.

Oh, then I'm sure he was buying it for me... :D ;)
I heard the crowds were down from previous years. And the hotel didnt sell out. Hmmm...guess hard times have struck even an established show
The hotel didn't sell out until Friday, but it did sell out. As you would expect though, things are not as busy as they have been but it's a good crowd and I see a lot of bags full of stuff walking around.
I took 200 pictures in the dealer room just now. They'll be up on my Flickr soon!
OK, they are going up now. The link up top works for these too.
another 50 pics up
All the photos are great but its still not as good as being there :(
Thanks for sharing those awesome pics! Hope everyone that attended had a great time and brought home some goodies!..Judging from those pictures, I need to start saving NOW for next year!

More pics just went up. Bob Burns battles Alien and Predator, and more
Thanks for the pictures Bobby..... I feel like I was there! Maybe next year....:)
Thanks Bobby for posting all those wonderful Wonderfest pics. For those of us that cannot be there, it is appreciated.
BK
Wow, great pics. Thank you so much for those, Toy Ranch!!!
I wasn't able to attend the show because of family commitments but I did talk to a number of people through the course of the weekend... Robb of Dark Carnival/Needful Things, Steve Riojas of AFM, Rainer (from Germany) of Nightmares In Plastic, Funnyara of Astro Zombies and a few others. According to them, the show had a record turn out. No surprise since it was the 20th anniversary.
Also, a HUGE congratulations to my friend John Hircock for taking two Golds and winning the AFM award in the model contest. Way to go, John.
Man, I am sooooo bummed that I missed this show. Oh well, next year. I'LL BE BACK.
Thanks for posting UMA!
Thanks for the cool pics. Looks like it was fun. I've never been before, but maybe someday.
I noticed a couple things. Terry's big yellow Frankenstein was actually in the display as promised? Maybe it's in the mail to my house? ;D
Also, I see the big Kong in the Imperial display. I'd be curious to know if anyone there mentions it and/or knows anything about it. I'd love some solid confirmation that it is indeed Imperial and not a bootleg of some kind.
Anyway, great display guys!

The Frankenstein window was a victim of some miscommunication/misunderstanding and fell short of the usual standard. Planning everything out and coordinating toys coming in from all over can easily lend itself to that. Not anyone's fault, just a SNAFU.

I'm hesitant to post these photos, as I'm sure they're just duplicating those posted by Bobby--but I'm tuckered out from the W-fest weekend and haven't made my way through all the photo links yet--so please forgive me if these are 'been there, done that'. (Will move this section to MEMORABLE MEMORABILIA after a couple days)
It was a tremendous honor to have Joe Moe offer to lend me three priceless Forry items, and as far as I'm concerned, they "made" the Forry displays. Forry's own copy of FM #1 is a treasure, and his SCI FI license plate (which you've seen, I'm sure, in photos of the other Forry window display) is a treat, but for me, the treasure beyond belief was being able to display Forry's 1926 AMAZING STORIES magazine, the very one he talked about time and again which "jumped off the shelf and into my hands and said 'Take me home, little boy, you will love me!'" To my thinking, this was the magazine that started OUR world of sci-fi--when 10 year old Forry took this magazine home and read it over and over (encouraged by his dear grandma and grandpa, the ones who took him to see all those early horror films)--and what followed was 82 years of Forryana, sharing his love of sci-fi and horror literature and films, for which we are forryever grateful!
Here I am holding the two rare magazines Joe lent me:

And here's a heartwarming moment indeed--our leader Terry and my old pal Bob Burns looking at the Forry AMAZING STORIES (from Joe Moe's collection) and at Forry's original Maria Robotrix replica (from my collection).

I went to Wonderfest again ( have been going since '95), and really enjoyed it, as usual. The UMA set-up was good, but honestly not different enough to attract a huge audience. Maybe it did, but I was not overly impressed this year with the changes they had made (which seemed to be very few). Personally I think the UMA is too obsessed with being a "private" (aka Old Dark House Clubhouse) group than a more wide-spectrum group, as it was when it was on Yahoo. The friend I was with that day ( an expert on all things sci-fi and horror related) was equally not impressed. I think egotism is the major problem. There needs to be more diversity, and less of an emphaisis on certain personalities.
Brother D
I've never been to this con but it seems like it is my kind of convention. I may look into attending next years event. Thank you for posting the pics. The Wonderfest may have a new fan soon.

We do our best to change the display to keep it fresh. Even the second year of planning the display, it was a major concern and continues to be. We really only have so much to work with - and we do the best we can. If you are sensing "egotism", I am unsure of why. There is no such thing here, only a love for the hobby that we attempt to communicate through the project. I'm sorry that it didn't live up to your expectations, and you should know that any constructive help that any member can give will always be appreciated.

Hmmm. My experience with the UMA is that it's a very welcoming group. I've never seen anyone snubbed or turned away. Many members are long time friends, so there are plenty of inside/personal references, to be sure -- but that doesn't mean others aren't free to join in the monster-flavored fun....

Once again, my thanks to all the UMA members who have posted pictures and related stories of WONDERFEST. Sharing the pictures has allowed me to feel as if I had been there. I was excited to see the FAMOUS issue of AMAZING STORIES. I felt the tributes were excellent. Thanks again to the UMA members who devoted the time and effort in making the UMA EXHIBIT possible. David

Yeah. I agree Terry. I only got to meet Creepy Jeff, and to be honest the cat kind of had my tongue because I didn't know how to respond to the friendliness and instant kinship he greeted me with. I am confused by this too. Also,...and this is for Bro. D....didn't you see all the cool stuff Joe Moe lended to the display this year? I just about crapped when I saw that Dorian Gray head in the pics! Believe it or not, I missed it at the show!!! It was awesome.
Anton, Have to correct you on one thing--the Dorian Gray head is not 'THE' Dick Smith head--it's a second one that Forry kept down in Grislyland (the cellar). Joe told me it was made by an L. A. mortician! He said the man had made several creepy props for Forry using mortician's wax and fake hair and so on, and that they always used to probe the pieces with a knife to make sure there were not any real bones inside! lol I got this extra Dorian head when Forry had the sad 2002 sale before his move from the big old Ackermansion to that final small place on Russell Ave.
Great pictures! Thank you for sharing them. I really wish we could have gone this year.

That head is still wonderfully macabre and awesome...you lucky stiff. ;) You still going to The Monster Bash/Creepy Classics thing? Cause I am dying to mail you some Teenage Frankenstein pics to get signed for me. ;D
Anton, Message me privately with address info and so on--my cuz Sara and friend Jill and I are all set to head to Bash in June and I'll be happy to get those signed for you.
I survived the return trip from Louisville. Now I'm back among my cats in St. Charles. Wow. What a weekend. I'm beat!
The UMA Wonderfest display was a big success. I don't think I've seen heavier traffic in front of our exhibit at any other convention since we started the toy tour in 2006. We received lots of positive comments and attention, especially in regards to the Forry windows. That and the Linda Miller art exhibit gave the display an added dimension, making it more than just a collection of paper and plastic bric-a-brac.
We met lots of great people and had a good time mingling with members of the CHFB, HMA and Rue Morgue. And Louisville is home to the world's best vegetable rolls.
I want to express my deep thanks to my brothers and sisters in arms, the wonderful UMA members who helped plan, transport, assemble and watch over the toy display. A big thanks to Terry, Jeff, Bobby, Max and Jane, Elizabeth and Dave, Robert and the Baron. And thanks to Andy and Rob for supplying additional toys. A big, huge thank you to Joe Moe for donating priceless Forry artifacts, and for just being a swell guy. Thanks and obrigado to Sara Lattis aka The Saramonster for being my "translator" during the Rondo ceremony. And thanks to Dave Conover and the Wonderfest crew for rolling out the red carpet for us.
I really think this might have been the best UMA toy tour stop ever.

The Kong, you need to ask Raymond
Nobody mentioned the Kong. I included it in the window because the prevailing wisdom, for now, is that it is an Imperial product. Even if it is ultimately proven to have been made by a different company, it is still considered a counterpart to Imperial's big Godzilla and is of great interest to Imperial collectors. Much like the Colorforms OSM are of interest to Matt Mason collectors and vice versa. But most importantly, it just looked good in the window.

Brother D
Brother D~
I have
some familiarity and understanding of the Universal Monster Army
and the Old Dark Clubhouse, as I have helped out in varying degrees with both for some time. While the former
is a
group the latter is not (it's actually a "room" if you've ever seen it yourself). And while you can be a member of the UMA, you can only be an attendee of the ODCH (it's NOT exclusive, only a room that, at times, becomes too small to fit everyone who wants to get in). Both entities appreciate any help and
constructive criticism. But mostly participation. Helpful participation of any kind is most welcome. If you must be critical of the efforts, don't be so ambiguous. Get to the point. By floating words like "private" and "elite" and "egotism" in describing the UMA and ODCH, it reminds me of someone with a bad case of jealousy for reasons unknown. Do you feel "left out"? Ideas not appreciated? Surely, this isn't so?
I have not been able to attend WonderFest, the UMA Toy Tour, nor the Old Dark ClubHouse for years~much to my regret. I wish I could have been there this year. You are lucky you can take in WonderFest every year and I'm sure both the UMA and ODCH would welcome your help and attendance.
BTW, I am not a leader, officer, board member, etc, etc, of either entity so my comments to you are not official~just observational. I am but one small voice in a large community. I do, however, donate $, materials, and promotionals (an amount in excess of a President Wm McKinley federal reserve note) each year to help make the festivities (I can't attend) more fun. I get to
participate from afar as do others that contribute but also can't attend.
Since I
do contribute and
have worked/helped on both the UMA Toy Tour display and the Old Dark ClubHouse in the past, I feel I can take issue with your statements (which are a bit hurtful) and inquire as to why you make them, Brother D.
Best,
Richard
ps. Your statement:
The friend I was with that day ( an expert on all things sci-fi and horror related) was equally not impressed intrigues me also. Many times, "expert", that's just an opinion. How has this individual determined that he/she is really an
expert on everything sci-fi and horror and may we have a name? Or would this cause embarassment?
And thank you Richard for your work on the membership kits and other fundraising items that help make the display possible. You were sorely missed in Louisville.

No doubt. In fact, I realized that that was the first time I'd actually seen it next to the big Godzilla (which I obviously don't have) and it looked great. I'm gonna have to grab one at some point.
