Remember King Zor made by Ideal in 1962?
King Zor came with a radioactive green dart gun, darts, and round yellow missles which King Zor used to shoot back at you. Once you loaded King Zor with the yellow balls you were ready to rumble. When you turned on his switch, he started to move about your floor. King Zor would back off, roar and change direction when his tongue came into contact with something. If your dart hit the target on his tail, King Zor would turn at you, roar, and start firing his missles at you.
King Zor's body was blue, while the arms and legs were green. The box showed King Zor with a yellow belly, but the production run never had the yellow, only the few used for commercials and marketing. Adding an extra color was too costly, I suppose.
I remember King Zor making a brief appearance on an early episode of "The Brady Bunch." Mr. Brady was walking into the boys' room and almost stumbled over him.
This shot from last year's UMA Display at Wonderfest should satisfy your desire for both King Zor and Hamilton's Invaders images.

That predates me, but it looks really cool. I'm also wiping the saliva off of my laptop after seeing Ray's OSM guys there!

Ah, hold on. The Colossus Rex figure and card are mine, but the rest are Dan Roebuck's. The Calisto is mine, too, if you want to count him as an honorary OSM.
He's honorary in my book! Great stuff either way!
King Zor's my favorite toy from way back when! In fact, that my guy in the pic that Ray posted. He usually sits on the book case in my studio, so it was nice to be able to share him in the UMA display at WF last year. He works fine, rolls, stops, roars, fires from out of his back.
What I DON'T have is the darn dart gun! I still hold this lingering hope that someday I'll stumble across one in a flea market or auction, and the dealer doesn't have a clue what he's got! When they come up on ebay, they're a bit rich for my blood...
If I am not mistaken, I seem to remember a childhood friend of mine having a King Zor board game as well.
Although I'm too young to actually remember Zor, he still has a place enough in my heart to warrant me doing artwork of him http://necronomitom.blogspot.com/2009/06/king-zor.html (http://necronomitom.blogspot.com/2009/06/king-zor.html)
I used to have one when I was a kid. It was a favorite toy of mine. I also had the King Zor board game. That was pretty cool but not as cool as King Zor himself.

Great artwork! Thanks for sharing!
Monsterfink - nice re-imagining of the fearsome beastie!
Great Garloo - you remember correctly - the King Zor Board Game had sme great playing pieces of Dinosaurs, cavemen and dino eggs - ok, so their knowledge of natural history left something to be desired! The worse thing about it was the bland box art. Just a color photo of the King Zor toy on a stark white background. Even as a kid I thought it was terrible - nothing to stir the imagination.
I have my original "Zor" from Christmas of 1962. He is one of the few pieces I would try to save from my collection (If I could only save what I could carry out). I still have the green dart gun but ONLY ONE dart (my brother broke all the others because I would shoot him in the butt). The box King Zor came in is long gone. And I lost my original King Zor game due to sewer backup in my childhood home but have since replaced it. It's the same game idea as the "It's About Time" game that came out a few years later. A fun very simple game for a kid~as most of the monster games were.
I wasn't allowed to get a King Zor when he first came out. I recently found the board game at a yard sale, so I am hoping I'll be able to find him soon. As a kid I had dreams of getting King Zor and RObot Commando and having them fight it out to the death.
I remember an episode of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. where Robot Commando made a "guest appearance".
Here's the TV commercial for King Zor:

Very cool! And here is the board game:

Hep, You dug way back to retrieve that post from '09! Good job! Can't let Zor fade away! Bud
King Zor is way too cool to be cavalierly allowed to fade into the mists of time.
;)
Mt brother got that for Christmas, and I remeber it well. I'm sure he still has his, as well as his original "Mr. Machine".
Haunted hearse, How big is your brother........Mt. brother? That deserves a brotherly slappin'...........LOL
LOL!! Bud, stirring up trouble AGAIN!! ;D
Yea, but don't you agree, Scatter? Mt. Brother! That sets up some serious mental images! 6'9" 378 lbs................serious!
Bud, when you're right, you're right. What can I say??
One of the things I still REALLY want, but don't want to pay big bucks for (so, it may never happen...can't have everything). Would love a Big Loo, also. I have no childhood recollections of him, but I remember King Zor (and lucked out and got a Fair+/Good- Robot Commando at an out-of-town resale store in the 90's). I actually left it behind the first time because I thought there was too much to try and fix. Thankfully no one else stumbled across it. His mechanics look clean, but I could never get him to turn on. Once I glued some things and cleaned and polished him I would have felt stupid if I had not gotten the second chance at him.
How 'bout an Odd Ogg? ;D
When it comes to coolness Odd Ogg is right up there with King Zor in my book.
8)
Love Ogg so much I have 2..........I still like Zor over Garloo. But our new Werewolf member has mentioned Big Loo. Of Ogg, Zor, Loo and Garloo I'm going with Big Loo as the #1 and Zor as close #2. Love, Buddy
Would love an Ogg, too. Now that my son saw all of those together (I sent him the link) he never realized Big Loo was THAT big. He's not a collector like I am, but loves to look for things for me (he lives in Houston now). He used to go to comic and toy shows with me when he was younger. Ooooo...an original Mr. Machine, too!! I only have a couple of the later ones (though one has the box) that you can't take apart. Have the board game, too.
The medal standings for me are as follows:
!. King Zor
2. Odd Ogg
3. Great Garloo
8)
Of the BIG 5 from the early 60's may personal metal standings are:
1. Big Loo
2. King Zor
3. Great Garloo
4. Odd Ogg
5. Mister Machine
Oh No! What is wrong with me! Let's move Mr. Machine down to #6 and in the #5 slot must go.....Robot Commando! I dream of Big-Plastic! Love, Buddy

Marvin Glass made some badd-ass toys.
How 'bout Gaylord the Pup or Marvel the Mustang ("What horse do?!"). :D
Also, if I'm not mistaken, Glass designed the first of those GIANT gag sunglasses. At a Frank Zappa concert I attended back in '75 or so, Napoleon Murphy Brock passed them out to the band members as he "shot" them all with a giant gag hypo. As Mr. Z donned the specs, he exclaimed, "Far F***ing out, man!" in an obvious parody of rock stars living in the fast lane. C:)
QuoteHow 'bout Gaylord the Pup
Don't forget Lady Gaylord! Buddy
I have been meaning to post this for a while, but was finally reminded when I happened in on my wife watching "The Brady Bunch" this evening.
As mentioned in the first post, in early episodes you can see King Zor is in the boy's room in the background. Sometimes in the toy box, other times proudly displayed on the dresser.
I imagine the Brady Bunch is currently playing on some other cable channels as well, but we only get it in the early evening on "INSP"...
King Zor was a favorite toy of my childhood. I always wondered how he knew what direction the shot came from when you hit his tail. He would growl and turn in that direction and fire a yellow ball (fireball) at you. Way ahead of its' time. I also remember I had the King Zor board game which had 4 cavemen and a prehistoric game board. I don't remember how to play it or anything it was 50 years ago. Thanks for bringing back a good memory.
I asked for King Zor for Christmas.......got the King Zor game. It was a cool game, but a let-down from expecting the big Zor himself. Mom later explained that the store (usually Sears) had been out of Zors, but not the games. Mom......it's ok..........I got me 2 Zors now........Love, Buddy
i'd have to say King Zor was my favorite all-time Christmas present. Figure at 5 years old, the box was as big as me!
I seem to remember lining myself up to try to get hit by the yellow balls - the King's aim wasn't all what we were led to believe!
Here's a picture of the instruction sheet that came with King Zor:

Hep! There you are...stirring up King Zor again! How are you my Canadian friend!
Still bereft of a King Zor, but otherwise strong, healthy and acerbic as ever!
;)
We all want to see more of both your toy hoard and the progress you've made on your new old house though. And what are you doing for Halloween and about the inevitable urchins that will be traipsing and thus trespassing across your front porch? Bear traps, scalding oil, bowls of Baby Ruth bars, potato chips and bubble gum? What's your strategy this year?
And did you see this thread?

You better stick around Buddy, we all miss you.
Hi everyone! Flower! How's my girl! I just HAD to check in around Halloween! Expecting alittle over 100 trick-or-treaters this year! I bought a VERY creepy deadly clown mask that I have been told I cannot wear when handing out candy.....nuts! I put it on a mannequin head and stuck it in the front attic window....that'll teach em! Always something more to do on the house....spent all last Winter (and alittle of the Spring) fixing up the 6 rooms in the basement. That area now houses my boxed 50's and 60's toys, action figures, games, model kits and comics.....too much stuff, but I love it! I joined a vintage toy group and started showing some of my toy guns......got some feedback about advocating for mass shootings.....silly. Anyway, we'll stay in touch......anyone that wants to friend me on FB...I'm Bud Bortner....but watch out...for some reason I have two accounts...the only one I can access has me playing a bass guitar with an Afro....ha!
