My local Big Lots has gotten in a new shipment of $3.00 DVDs, and I went down yesterday and bought a big stack of movies. Most of what I bought was non-genre 1930's-1950's musicals, comedies, and dramas, but I did get a stack of science fiction/fantasy/horror films as well:
Brainstorm (Natalie Wood's last movie)
Dogma
Eight Legged Freaks
Eating Raoul
Oh God!
Oh God! You Devil
Ten Little Indians
and three Hammer Frankenstein films: The Curse of Frankenstein
The Revenge of Frankenstein
Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
They also had Return of the Vampire with Bela Lugosi, but I already own a copy of that one.
George
Nice score Ramsey! It's always fun to find some diamonds mixed in with the 50 copies of Mannequin! LOL
Went by big lots Monday and it was slim pickings. Picked up a copy of Return of the Vampire for $5. Also had The Revenge of Frankenstein and Body Snatcher/IWWAZ
for $3 each.
Sometimes it's a pain to look through what they have. The one near me puts up cardboard bins when they get some new stuff in, but they also have a 4-sided rack that they add new stuff to, but it also has stuff that's been there for a long time. I wish they'd pull out some of the junk that's been gathering dust and move it to a marked down bin.

Thanks for the heads up on these!!! Will definitely be picking up the 3 Hammer films, if my BLs has them and maybe Return of the Vampire.....
BL has been selling complete TV season sets cheap also (as has Walmart). Between the two stores, I recently bought The Andy Griffith Show and The Untouchables for $10/season, and The Brady Bunch and I Spy for $13/season.
Obviously they are blowin' 'em out, boys. I believe "The End Of The DVD" is on the horizon. Buy 'em while you can.
[Sidenote- to add fuel to my theory, some Netflix "tv" choices are disappearing for rental, and reappearing as streaming only...]
Didn't I read somewhere that one of the other bargain stores has classic horror dvd's? Dollar store, Family Dollar, etc.
Haven't been to Big Lots recently, but always find some good stuff there. I've found a few interesting things in the bargain bin at Walmart. Picked up an El Santo double-feature, where he battles vampires, etc.
Never can find classic stuff at the Big Lots around me, did get Friday the 13th deluxe editions of 5, 6, 7, and 8 for 5 a piece though.
I picked up "I Walked with a Zombie/The Body Snatcher" double feature at our Big Lots for $3.00! They had the "Isle of the Dead/Bedlam" also. These are from the Val Lewton Collection with the great poster art on the covers.
I just went to my local Big Lots on a whim and found a $3 DVD, which may be of interest to many of us Universal Monster fans. They only had one or I would have bought more.
I bought the Monster Force vol 1 DVD. There never was a vol 2. It contains seven of the episodes. I haven't watched it yet but it looks like fun.
The had a bunch of the Van Helsing London Assignment DVD's. I didn't see anything else that got my attention. I didn't see any vintage movies. They also had a number of Sesame Street Elmo/Cookie Monster DVD's. If you know young kids they might enjoy those.
Monster Force should be fun to watch.
There's supposed to be "500 new titles" coming tomorrow. I'll probably be lucky to find one or two that I want that I haven't seen before.
I picked up a lone copy of the Rifftrax version of "Night of the Living Dead" a week or so ago. Unfortunately, it had a bad disc, so I ended up returning it.
George
I stopped by my local Big Lots this morning and picked up copies of the following:
The Rifftrax version of "Missile to the Moon"
"Sherlock Holmes in The Woman in Green" Legend Films colorized version
"The Phantom Planet" Legend Films colorized version
"Krull"
"The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T"
And best of all, the Rifftrax disc actually worked this time ;)
George
Hooray!! I finally went to Big Lots (18 miles away) and found the infamous Movie Deal rack, but most of the movie were super-lame 80s and 90s dramas. But I walked away with the original Land of the Lost Season 3 set for $3! Yipee!I wasn't leaving that filthy "store" without some sort of prize! Ewww, it was really dirty in there and all the carts looked like they had Diptheria on them. But I am happy to have found the season with the abominable snowman, he is awesome!
I stopped by Big Lots this morning and picked up a couple of genre DVDs for $3.00 each:
"Blade Trinity"
"Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter"
I didn't see much else of interest this time around.
George
I hate when my carts have Diptheria too Charlotte. ;D
I saw several TV show season collections that I haven't seen before, but nothing I wanted. The only one I can remember is FUTURAMA S4. I think there were all $6 ea.

Between Amazon & eBay, I have been fiinding lots of recently issued 2-DVD & 3-DVD special editions of great old movies in the $5.00 - $7.00 range. Check with eBay before buying from Amazon. Some eBay sellers already have stacks of brand new DVD's that have not been marked down on Amazon yet.
Amazon recently sent me an e-mail announcing a 75% off sale on BLU-Ray movies. I deleted it. I'm too old to be replacing my entire movie collect AGAIN.
No way would I try to replace everything, but I've been buying select "fave" films in blu-ray. Only the ones that are high on my list of favorites or really benefit from the newer technology- COOL HAND LUKE, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, WIZARD OF OZ (wow), THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and the Harryhausen boxed set (wow/great!). Plus the British THE PRISONER TV show (looks like it was shot yesterday). All of these look fabulous and a BIG difference on blu-ray. Cheap too! I always go to the disc reviews on the 'net first-very helpful in sorting out which flicks benefit from blu-ray.
BTW, also picked up at Big Lots last week for $3- THE MUNSTERS' SCARY LITTLE CHRISTMAS, KING KONG 3-disc set, and MACON COUNTY LINE with Jethro Bodine!
Dropped by Big Lots today.
They had a couple of Ray Harryhausen movies: It Came from Beneath the Sea and Mysterious Island.
Also available was The Wicker Man (remake)and Texas Chainsaw Massacre the Next Generation (sounds like it should star Patrick Stewart, Johnathan Frakes, and Brent Spiner as choptop!)
The deluxe edition of Peter Jackson's King Kong (3 disks--three weeks of extras!) was still there.
And apparently Nicklelodeon is dumping all their animated overstock.
Looks like everything was three bucks.

This finally got to my BL about a month after Bob's post. Watched all the extras, but haven't watched the movie. (Already had the 2 disc DVD.)
Went to pick up a couple more KK05 sets and saw a DARKMAN disc (WS, minimal extras). Glad to get that for $5.00!
I'm always inspired by this thread to drop by Big Lots whenever I'm near it....and I always walk away empty handed wondering why the Big Lots gods never seem to shine their light on the store near me!?! I've never found one cool-must have title at Big Lots.
Man wish mine had It Came From Beneath the Sea!
I stopped by my local Big Lots this morning and picked up the following:
"Jack Brooks Monster Slayer"
"The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" (the live-action movie from 2000)
"Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic"
"It Came From Beneath the Sea" (colorized edition)
"Species"
"Frankenstein" (the 2004 Hallmark TV version)
"Demolition Man"
"Pan's Labyrinth"
"Terminator: Salvation" (used copy)
Plus a few non-genre films. All were $3.00 each. This was the best haul I've had in months, it seems like usually I only find one or two films.
George
nice score, my big lots needs to restock >:(
Alot of them have restocked in the last couple of weeks- tons of stuff and alot of contemporary horror, which I watch but don't own much of.
Today I picked up a 1960s comedic oddity called A FINE MADNESS with Sean Connery. Never heard of it, and I read mixed reviews (mostly bad!) on the 'net, BUT I read he plays his character (a poet) as " a cross between James Bond and Ralph Kramden". Now how can that be bad, esp. for three bucks?
I stopped by my local Big Lots this morning and picked up:
"Highlander" (the 1986 original) $3.00
"Morons from Outer Space/Alien from LA" Midnite Movies double feature $3.00. I didn't really see anything else this time that grabbed me.
George
They had a few new videos in my local Big Lots. Nothing really fantastic. I saw several Firday the 13th films. I did get Blade Runner The Final Cut for $5. I was pleased to see Mexican Coke for $1 a bottle.
Yesterday I found (*at*)$3- THE RUINS (good creepy flick) and Elvis' GIRL HAPPY- a fun Summery flick with one of cooler Presley soundtracks, plus Jackie Coogan(!) -looks GREAT. Both in widescream.
Also found the blu-ray for A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET at WalMart for $10. SUPER picture...this was definately the best of the series IMHO. I much prefer him being called FRED Krueger as opposed to Freddy; it sounds much more serial killer-like. SCARY~!

We got a ton of new DVDs, but as usual about 98% crap. I got
Morons/Alien and a 2 disc
Get Shorty for $3 ea. and
I Am Legend and
Journey To The COTE (in 3D) for $5 ea.Would have picked up several more titles, but they were
Full Screen only.
This wasn't from Big Lots, but i found this terrific DRAGNET DVD set at Target for only 5 BUCKS!! FOUR discs w/22 episodes. My older bro is a huge fan of the old show. [the original series, NOT the 60's version where the story would involve such stereotypes as a Hippie smoking a joint and [naturally] letting the baby drown in the bath tub!] I passed it by the previous 2 visits, but finally broke down and bought it this time...how could i not? His B-day is a ways off, but at least i know i found one thing i know he'll like!

"Hellraiser" $3.00

Mike, are you talking about The Kids Are Alright? I found that one at the Kmart where I work three years ago for $9.99 and thought *that* was a great deal. Absolutely the best rock film I have ever seen.

No, this is a 2007 DVD release called "Amazing Journey: The Story of the Who". Disc 1 is the main doc with some never before seen footage and new and old interviews. Disc 2 has a bunch of exclusive mini docs ans remembrances and the only existing footage of "The High Numbers" performing 2 songs. (You can probably get more info from amazon.)

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA is one of my favorite films. Of all of Sir David Lean's films, I think it is his masterpiece (and that's saying a lot!).
Rob
I also scored "Lawrence of Arabia" for $5.00 this week. At that price, it was impossible to say no to it!

TCM runs it pretty frequently. It's a huge epic with great cinematography. Great on a big screen. The first ime I saw it was was after it had been restored and re-released in theatres in cities around the U.S. I went to Philadelphia to watch it (and check the comic book stores). This may have 15 years or so ago. They even did the intermission.

Well, I'm going to have TCM by next week so I'll keep an eye out for it. I just dumped my Comcast cable and home phone and I'm getting a DirecTV box, and THAT has TCM (YAYYY!!) . My mother-in-law has DirecTV in her room (lots of Spanish channels for her) and now my cable/phone bill will drop from $99 per month to $6 per month just paying for the extra box.
Comcast cable service $70 PER MONTH.
Comcast unlimited phone service $29 PER MONTH.
Dumping them both and cutting my bill by $93 dollars per month while picking up TCM?? PRICELESS.
Yesterday picked up the "40th Anniversary" Dimension EXTREME Films' GEORGE A. ROMERO'S [original] NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (2008 release) for $3.00, more for the extras than anything, but well worth three bucks if you see it. The Romero interview is worth that.
The "remastered and restored" film looks great, too.

Got 1960's Village and Children of the Damn double feature for $3 at Big Lots today.
One I noticed at Walmart today! 4 Film Zombie; Dead Snow, Pontypool, I Sell the Dead and Doghouse $9.98! Not a bad price at all for some decent-modern day horror flicks (Though I haven't seen Pontypool yet.)! The films are all widescreen/unrated, no bonus features listed though! I'll probably pick it up next week.

I still remember that during the transformation scenes, audience members could be seen putting down their snacks all over the theater.

This new one has a combo of make-up/puppets and CGI. Without saying too much, I liked the way they tied into the Carpenter movie in very specific ways.
Picked up that Zombie 4 Film Feature that I mentioned previously and was surprised to find that it is actually 4 seperate discs instead of 4 films compressed onto one or 4 films on a dual layer!
really liked Dead Snow.

I just found another DVD of Invasion of the Blood Farmers.
Noticed that Wal-mart finally set up their annual horror movie display, usually it is just an end cap but this year it is a rather large display at the front of the store!! I believe it says, "Face Your Fears" on it. It is mostly modern horror but their were a few older titles that I noticed, all for $5.
I picked up Wrong Turn/Wrong Turn 2 (unrated) and Hills Have Eyes (unrated)/Hills Have Eyes 2 (unrated) double features! These are presented as single discs (basically the original dvd releases just repackaged) and include all special features/commentaries!! Looks like I'll be havin' me an inbred-cannibal weekend!!
