Title: Movie Sequels I Wish I Could Look Forward To, But...
Post by: Monsters For Sale on May 06, 2025, 07:32:08 PM
"Practical Magic 2" is a sequel to what I thought was a charming little film about witches   who were doomed to have unnaturally shortened marriages.  The original is a favorite of mine.  The sequel has been announced with a release date of September 18, 2026.  The girls are looking a little long in the tooth and I fear the plot will feel the same.

"Groundhog Day 2" has been announced as "coming soon".  Bill Murray has what looks like a supporting role.  But Bill is really looking his age and the director for the original masterpiece, Harold Ramos has been dead for quite a while.  I love the original so much, I think it would be very hard for me to watch the sequel.

This one has a trailer:  https://youtu.be/aDW240p04jY

I fought viewing A Christmas Story Christmas for quite a while, before I learned that practically all the original cast was envolved.  That one turned out to be worth the watch.  I even bought the BLU-Ray.  Maybe one of the two above can fool me, too.  I hope so - but I fear the worst.

I know I don't want to see "Groundhog Day 2". The movie is perfect and there is absolutely no need for a sequel.

I've heard people like it, but the same goes for A Christmas Story. Wouldn't be the same without "the old man".

While Practical Magic 2 appears to be legit, have no fear: the Groundhog Day 2 is not real. This is from the description from the trailer you posted:

QuotePlease note that this video is a concept trailer created solely for artistic and entertainment purposes. I have meticulously incorporated various effects, sound design, AI technologies, movie analytics, and other elements to bring my vision to life. Its purpose is purely artistic, aiming to entertain and engage with the YouTube community.

All of the videos on that channel are fake.

A Christmas Story Christmas was much better than I expected it to be! I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm SO glad I was fooled.  A sequel or remake of Groundhog Day would be an abomination.

Sure, someone can try something based on a person stuck in time - but Don't fool with perfection.

Nice followup article from Deadline today!

YouTube Takes Further Action Against Fake Movie Trailer Channels After Deadline Investigation (https://deadline.com/2025/05/youtube-suspends-ad-sales-fake-movie-trailer-channels-1236393362/)

QuoteEXCLUSIVE: YouTube has further cracked down on fake movie trailer channels. The video giant has suspended ad revenue on Screen Trailers and Royal Trailer, two alternative accounts run by the creators behind Screen Culture and KH Studio.

This isn't surprising at all, but is disgusting:

QuoteInstead of enforcing copyright on counterfeit commercials, Deadline's investigation revealed that a handful of Hollywood studios, including Warner Bros. Discovery and Sony, claimed ad revenue on Screen Culture trailers. The studios declined to comment.

In a statement, SAG-AFTRA disapproved of studios making money out of AI-fueled trailers: "Monetizing unauthorized, unwanted, and subpar uses of human-centered IP is a race to the bottom. It incentivizes technology companies and short-term gains at the expense of lasting human creative endeavor."

It's crazy to think that studios could profit from these fake videos. I do wonder why they turn a blind eye to some things, and now it makes a bit of sense.

A friend of mine is walking the fine line now with the BBC in England. He has created over 100 videos of missing episodes of Doctor Who, with the help of paid artists using AI and the audio recorded by fans during the original transmission of the lost episodes. The BBC have not gone after him for it, and have actually allowed copyright violations to be overturned. This makes me wonder if they are planning to go after any ad revenue generated by these videos.

The world is full of inferior entertainment. If a movie sequel comes out that I don't like I simply ignore it. I don't let it bother me just how bad it is. I also watch a lot of sequels and remakes that are inferior to the previous ones because they might have enough entertainment value to spend the time on but fall short of what came before.

The Blade (1998) trilogy comes to mind because I recently watched them. Blade (1998) is very good, though quite different from the Marvel Comics version. Blade II (2002) is excellent and better than the first imo. Blade: Trinity (2004) is problematic and the weakest of the three. Too bad Guillermo del Toro didn't direct the third one. If so, I doubt if Dracula would have looked like a male stripper and acted like a coward using a baby to throw off of a skyscraper to misdirect Blade so he could flee like a little twerp.
