It would be fun to see it on the big screen, again!

I wonder if it'll pack the same wallop it did back in '79 ...

Not likely.

It has been copied by so many films since then, that someone seeing it for the first time is likely think it is terribly derivative.

(I'm just a little freaked that it is almost a half century old.  That measn I am hal a century older than when I saw it as an adult.)

I needed a parent or guardian to see it in 1979 -- luckily, my mom was a horror fan so she took me. I was hooked immediately! A while ago, the released it into theaters under the Director's Cut -- saw it again on the big screen, but I much prefer the original edit.

I wish they would redo it with the original Goldsmith score, instead of the released version that was partly tracks from Goldsmiths "Freud" score and bits of stuff from other composers.

I'd heard nothing about it when I walked into the theater on Bloor Street West in Toronto to see it back in 1979. All I'd seen was the movie poster. But right from the mood setting opening scene of the Nostradamus moving silently through space, I knew I was in for something grim.

 ;)

I remember everyone noisily munching on popcorn until that thing popped out of his chest.  Then everyone put down their popcorn.

The veneer of Sci-Fi but definitely Horror set in space. Excellent movie that deserves a revisit periodically. Seeing it on the big screen would be awesome!

My wife and I were engaged when it was first run. We both loved it. We came out of the theater at night checking to see if anything horrible was lurking in the shadows. I've seen it on the big screen a couple times since then. I have the Alien blu ray collection and it looks great. I must say though, that seeing it on the big screen is still the best experience. It feels like you're on the ship with them. Claustrophobic and terrifying with surround sound.
