Earliest entry we've had for a Halloween season.  (Thanks, zombiehorror.)

And in case you missed it, there's a Nosferatu this year too but you can't see the face in any of the videos/photos I've seen.

Possibly.  It looks like it might be better than the Spirit Halloween figure from some years ago.

I have to see the actual piece in person and up close first.

How well do these soft rubber animatronic faces hold up over time?

If they're anything like masks, you gotta keep them out of the UV rays.

Surprised this is a Uni licensed figure, as the costume is like nothing from any style guide I've ever seen.
The fringe things I would image are to aid in its motions, movements visually.  The colors are off from usual Uni styles, with dark spots, grime on a very light colored suit.  Hope some don't come as looking 'Polka dotted' as productions run through.

The head is correct, though not any actors likeness unfortunately.

Unless you just accidentally hit the space bar, it's "polka", like the dance.

It's Karloffish style guide Frank they use now.    Still better than the more generic Frank's they've used over the years.

Almost every modern haunt animatronic has that shredded cheese cloth stuff.   Haunt stuff has gotten better quality over the years but it's beginning to get very cookie cutter.      A giant 30ft Skeleton isn't impressive when 5 people in the neighborhood has one.

I wonder how difficult it would be to put alternate film appropriate apparel, of your own making or purchase,  on this Frankenstein.

As an additional random thought, I wonder if they realize  the unholy amount of these they would sell if they made a Creature from the Black Lagoon with a quality likeness straight from the film.

Scour the thrift stores for a black suit coat and pants and black sweatshirt. And get a better mask.

Couldn't do it for $300 - $400. Maybe 3K - 5K.

They probably would try to charge that much, but objectively, why? It would be a mass produced item. The Werewolf they did a year or 2 ago was pretty detailed. The Mars Attacks one from last year was extremely detailed. Seeing it in person I was surprised. There is no legitimate reason a Creature should cost more than $400-$600. It would, but Universal Monster stuff costing way more than any other property for the same item is ... dumb.

You can't just hang a suit on a head. You'd have to sculpt an entire body.

Yes, and there was a very nice Mars Attacks full body sculpt last year. It's just plastic pieces from a mold placed together.

It has authentic lines from the Frankenstein film for sound.

It's Alive, it's Alive I'm sure would be heard, the monsters growl, what other lines/sound do you think they licensed for this?

Not sure if it will be actual dialog, sound from the film, or re-recorded.

A few years ago, as many of you will remember, Target stores had several Universal Monsters decorations for Halloween. I bought everything I could find and was so excited to see these classic monsters once again come to life. Since then Target has only had cheap Chinese decorations that are very generic. I have noticed that Spirit Halloween stores have had several UM items along with costumes...so that is good. It would be nice to see more stores carry Officially Licensed UM stuff during Halloween. though.

Target sold out of the Universal items really fast.  You's think someone would want to repeat that success.

I always hope that the scalpers end up with massive amounts of stock and lose their house, but then again I often buy one to keep, one to resell later and one to open. My philosophy is to only buy things to resell that I wouldn't mind getting stuck with, and so far it has worked for me.
Title: Re: NEW FOR HALLOWEEN - 2024
Post by: BigShadow on April 08, 2024, 01:03:16 PM
I always buy just one of each item, unless they have been on the shelf for weeks or are on sale. I hate when scalpers buy all the stock then turn around and try to sell it for double. Years ago I used to buy new action figures from all the local stores: Target, Walmart, Toys-R-Us, etc. Hunting down the latest figures and seeing all the new stock hot the shelves was such a fun time. However, I'd get to the store and scalpers would be waiting because they knew when the new shipments would be getting in. They also were working with the employees to grab the rare figures before they even hit the shelves. Then the stuff would be on eBay, in local comic shops, and toy shops for double or triple the price. I became so disheartened by the entire thing that I stopped collecting new toys and going out toy hunting.

I think Sprit Halloween is owned by Spencer's which I think is owned by Universal (or has some type of affiliation with Universal). I'm not exactly sure but I think that's why Spirit Halloween has Universal Monster stuff more than other places. I think they would be wise to have more than they do.

My Target had the Monsterville stuff through the entire season.   I don't think it sold very well.   Thats why they haven't repeated it.     A store in Australia...the Big W...tried it last season and most went to clearance.    Stuff I found much cooler and more fun than the Monsterville stuff.

This one is more generic looking

Not sure what the obsession is with toilets? Last year they introduced Edgar Allan Poe on the throne and now they've added a skeleton, Dracula (another generic version), The Headless Horseman and Frankenstein; what I found interesting on the Frankenstein was the use of the prototype/test make-up photo used on the newspaper in his hands.

I am seeing these things listed on eBat as being new for 2024, butI have been unable to find theme elsewhere.  They are plastic and 10" tall.  I say put a handle on theme and make them a companion piece for the Glenn Strange Halloween Candy Bucket.

By the way, these Karloff-looking planters are 2 inches taller than the old Strange Bucket from Clinton Toys.

They have the idiotic Frankenstein bust blow a gum bubble, but no planters in their online listings.  EBay scalpers look to have bought them all up so far.

Sometimes I hate people.

I hear ya. It's early enough in the season that a restock is possible, depending on whether or not the vendor has any in stock, of course.

I'd sure like to pick one up at at least close to original price.  The sculpt is really nice on these.  (I added a picture to the first mention of them a few posts back.)

Good luck with that! Once eBay becomes your only option, your sunk! (Unless nobody buys them.)

So much for that idea! A bunch of them have sold for $80 to $130.

Got one.

An eBay seller listed one for $62.99 or best offer.  I offered him $55.00 and he accepted.  I figured he could have the $25.00 for saving me the hassle of trying to find one in the wild.  His shipping was also half of what the higher priced items was charging.

I hope it looks as good as its picture.

What do you mean "he could have the $25.00"?

If he paid $30 and I paid him $55, he made $25 minus the sales tax he paid, income tax on his sale and eBay fees.  He didn't make a real killing.

I am actually shocked they aren't releasing a Creature and Wolf Man this year. I know Universal is heavily pushing the Bride and Monster (as a couple, goofily) but to double dip on the Monster is a weird marketing move, IMO.

Still, I'm kinda glad, as I was all set to chase down a theoretical Creature stand-up, but afraid in regards to how difficult it would be.

They made one of the Monster, last year, which I've seen photos of, and I've been told there was a Dracula (but I remain skeptical about that one). The cases the bottles ship in (x6) are also illustrated, but you can buy a case a Target. The standee(s?), as I'm sure you know, not so.

Martha Stewart Frankenstein Head Planter, New for 2024

I am seeing these things listed on eBat as being new for 2024, butI have been unable to find theme elsewhere.  They are plastic and 10" tall.  I say put a handle on theme and make them a companion piece for the Glenn Strange Halloween Candy Bucket.

          https://tinyurl.com/3jw6jhz5

By the way, these Karloff-looking planters are 2 inches taller than the old Strange Bucket from Clinton Toys.

Can enyone here find a cheaper source than eBay?  If so, please post a link.

BEWARE.  These planters are not made of plastic.  They are made of resin - very fragile resin.

Don't see the Frankenstein Tombstone on their site.  Is it plastic/cardboard or what?

And how thick?

It was metal. Not that thick. They had Chucky, and I believe 1-2 Nightmare Before Christmas ones

Milwaukee Zoo's 2024 Mold-A-Rama Frankenstein Figure.

If you can't make it to the zoo, or would rather not pay admission, this year's 5.25" Standing Frankenstein is listed on eBay by the same reliable seller I have used for several years now.  This year's unique color is a surprising "Bubble Gum Pink".
