Title: Disney Nixes New Physical Format Movies
Post by: Monsters For Sale on August 19, 2023, 07:39:05 AM
No More Discs?

Disney has done some editing of older movies that some members of today's audiences might find objectionable.  They have even gone so far as to cut some things from their catalog altogether.

Try to find a good copy of their "Song of the South" animated feature.

Now they are making yet another move toward the total elimination of all new physical media for home ownership, making it easier to exercise self-censorship in the future - and make the home viewer have to pay for each and every view.

If this marketing ploy is successful, what studio will be next?

I'll tell you what's next: Someday, with the push of a button, you'll
be able to choose the ethnicity of the characters.  ::)

I have it in a box set of Disney animated features. It's not restored, like the others, but is a nice print.

The Disney DVD is out of print.

There is a Spanish BLU-Ray available, but it is of an unrestored print with missing frames, etc.

I don't see the film being treated with dignity, even as an historical artifact, any time soon.

No.

I think they are probably MODs, because they are very dark. I don't know what a BD MOD is supposed to look like. I got mine for $30, so I'm not complaining.

Disney must LOVE that set.  Twenty-four of their movies for $25.00!

So THAT'S why they want tighter control over their product.

This, amongst other reasons, is why they are bleeding millions of dollars and will continue to lose money in the near future. Their CEO's are unable to see the shortsightedness of their own policies ::)
