Finally, a monster collection is being featured on tonight's show! If your provider carries the MeTV network, tune in or set your recorder.
Needless to say, it was my favorite episode of the show so far. Not only is Mr Roebuck a collector
after my own tastes, he has personality-plus compared to others from past episodes.

I think the full episodes can eventually be watched on their website:

I hope so, in the past they have only had excerpts and outtakes. Isn't Dan Roebuck an administrator on this board? If so, he might know where to find the complete episode.
Dan's name on this forum is gracebuster.
That was a super great episode. In fact there are other great collections on Collector's Call. So far, there are two seasons.

appraiser looks to be none other than "Arizona Gillman" himself. 'Should be

I know it is short notice but an Indoor antenna like this installed in the attic works. I bought an outdoor one and ran a cable over to my cable box and plugged it into where the old cable company input was. Using a smart TV, I scanned for channels and now I pick up 40 plus free channels.

I would first google ME TV and see if there is a station broadcasting within a hundred miles of where you live. If it is fairly close ( within 30 miles) you might be able to use a $30 plug in antenna.

I live in an apartment.
I have an attic antenna, and I get good MeTV reception 75% percent of the time; which basically means it comes in crystal clear when Collectors Call features the guy with the world's largest guitar pick or Brady Bunch collection, but it won't come in at all when the Dr. Who collector is on. >:( But, I'm happy to say, that it came in great tonight for the CFTBL episode! :)
The Creature episode was so much and cool to see such a neat-o collection.

Yeah, it was a fun show and Mr Strothe has a great collection although his over-reactions to everything
got rather cringey. Why didn't they feature the appraiser and his awesome Creature collection instead?
Quote from: Sir Masksalot on August 28, 2022, 11:14:57 PM
Why didn't they feature the appraiser and his awesome Creature collection instead?
Yeah, I asked myself that same question.
They waste time that could be spent showing highlights of smaller rare items, and this episode was no exception. I would have loved a closer look at the other stuff in the cases, but I was impressed with the items they did feature. That Aurora Creature head was incredible and the full size one was beautiful.
As for the trade, I agree that he should have kept the original art for the cover of the magazine considering the other items were mass produced but there is only one painting. His thinking was that he could possibly find the Green Pez dispenser and Flicker ring elsewhere, and I think if the other guy had brought one more great item the collector needed it would have been a go.
I enjoyed the episode, but I really wish they spent more time showing the collection in more depth, and not worrying about the "hook" of the show. I can't imagine that angle actuallly gets people to watch it who would otherwise not be interested in collectibles.
I can appreciate Strothe's enthusiasm, but I do wish he'd dialed it back. You never know, the producers may have egged him on to go over the top. These type of shows often like to make people into "characters" to livenn things up. The Toys That Made Us for instance usually picks one person to come across as really, really out there.
The local METV channel 8ncentral fl had technical difficulties during the broadcast. Kept pixilating, the the picture went black, then nothing. So only the first segment and wrapup were ok.

I keep missing this show. I think the last one was Creature from the Black Lagoon collection.
Just on a whim, I caught it. I, too, was surprised that he was only offering loose Remco figures for her limited edition Dark Forest Barbie. But I was even more SURPRISED that, as he was pointing out the figures, he mixed up Dracula and Phantom of the Opera!!! Finally, I was also surprised that he only appraised her entire collection at 20K??? If that is true, I'm guessing she lost a lot of money on it, and she's DEEP in the red!!! :o :o :o
(However, to be fair, you would have to pay me to take any of those Funko POP figures). ;D ;D ;D
^I feel on nearly every show they underappraise the value of the collections. I'm not sure why. You think they would want to inflate them to make the overal show more impressive.

I caught it just as it was beginning. I was happy to see that they didn't "low-ball" this collection's overall worth, as they so often do. Also, I wished they would have highlighted in more detail some of the Universal Monsters figures in the background!
I'm pretty sure his "original" Alien costume isn't. Bob Burns had (has) the heads, and, being made of latex, are rotting away. So any costume would likely be in poor condition today. This costume looks pristine like it was just made.

I do agree with you that the "experts" do tend to highball the main, primo items that they showcase on the show. Some, like the TV show costumes and memorabilia, were way, WAY overvalued, IMHO. When I said "lowballing", I was referring to their appraisals of the overall collections; or, more specifically, the remainder of those collections. For instance, say that they end up valuing the 8 items (give or take) that they showcase on the program for between $80-100K; when they are asked to put a value on the owner's entire collection, they often seem to come with some strange figure like $150,000; even though the house seems to be bursting at the seam with tons more collectibles. It's like 1% of the collection is worth 90% of its value!
I'm still sticking with my original theory that Funko Pops are dragging down the entire collection's worth! :) :) :)

As per tonight's episode, as optimistic as I might be about the worth of my own collection, I find it very hard to believe that built up versions of the Aurora monsters would be worth $1,500 apiece; even first editions with the best of paint jobs. Especially, since the later Aurora reissues all still have the original 1960's copyright date, and they have been re-released about a zillion times since then! But, hey, if someone is willing to pay that... ;) ;) ;)

It's a fun little show but it would be more interesting if items were appraised after the descriptions and BEFORE the owner revealed what they paid for it. The owners are usually friends with the "appraiser" and it seems that the "appraiser" always says the item is worth more than what the owners paid.
I have checked a few items online (eBay,auctions, etc.) that I was not familiar with, and found those "rare" items were for sale and at prices way lower than the "appraiser" claimed.
Most of these appraisals aren't even in the ballpark. The built up Auroras are a good example. I've never seen a built up sell for $1500. Were these painted by Picasso? Now if these were originals of Godzilla's Gocart or King Kong's Thronester, that's a different story.
I would like the show to spend more time showing the items in the collection. I could care less what they spent or what it is worth. They should have an extended program highlighting items on their website from the individual collections.
I watched the show this week and it was about an Indiana Jones collection. Nice collection and nicely displayed. One item appraised at $1000 was a loose, used dvd case shaped like Indy's suitcase made of resin. It was described as a rare promo item. I checked eBay and several sold recently. All under $200. An unused one with original box sold for $200.

That's "Reality TV" for ya. Fake it to make it more interesting.
I have to admit that I kind of thought that Collector's Call had "jumped the shark" with last week's Drew Barrymore episode; but I really enjoyed the Frankenstein collectibles that they highlighted on this weeks show! However, I am still more than a little skeptical of the Authentic Prop Card they had with the Strickfaden wire.

Agreed, I'd never be 100% convinced without a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Mr Strickfaden himself ...
