Title: Trick or Treat Studios Universal Monster ornaments.
Post by: zombiehorror on December 14, 2019, 06:22:55 PM
I saw these on Instagram several days ago and just assumed they would be posted about be someone here but unless I missed it there has been no mention.  Killer sculpts on these, hopefully there will be another assortment next year.

They're great likenesses. It's nice to see Universal licensing all these classic monster products. Thanks, zombiehorror.

On Black Friday I ordered Michael and Leatherface; I don't think the Universals were available at that time. Anyway, those two showed up yesterday and are of excellent quality so I just ordered Creech, Wolfie, Phantom, and Invisible Man.

I really like The Wolf Man and Creature ornaments. Only problem with the Creature is green ornament against green tree doesn't make for a very stark contrast. But next year, I plan on starting a new tradition of setting up a black "Halloween Tree," and these ornaments would be perfect for that.

I hope they look as nice as the photo. Doesn't say how big they are. I hope they are at least 3" tall.

I realized that the Wolfman and Phantom pieces must be dual Universal/Chaney licenses. Does that mean the lawsuit is settled? I also noticed that only the Creature and Invisible Man ones are on the ToT site, right now.

I missed hearing about these as well. Probably because I never check the "memorabilia" section of the forum.  Aren't these considered toys if they're sculpted?

Anyway, I ordered one of each, they look amazing!

The Meyers boy is 3.75"

Tip of the day: don't drop these, folks! I dropped Mikey and chipped his shoulder. I was able to glue most of it back together, but these are definitely fragile. In any event, well worth the $20 bucks they're charging. They do look just like the pictures online.

Grabbed photos of Mikey and Leatherface. Note that I didn't like Mike's eyes showing so I painted them in black myself. Great detail on these, especially Leatherface:

Years ago, I picked up the DVD set that included the mini-busts. Here's Wolfie for comparison (the bust is quite nice, but I like the sculpt on the ornament better):

Lastly, the back of the Creech box suggests Mr. and Mrs. Frank N. Stein and a Mummy in our future... but when??

Check the spelling of the word "Creature" on the bottom of the box.  ;D

That is just the standard art for the UM's now.  They would have probably used it for all of the ornaments but for the fact neither Chaney nor Lugosi characters exist in that art style.  That being said, I would hope we would eventually see all of the other monsters, including Dracula, since they have that license as well.  These are the same monsters we got on the cutouts.  Would love to see the others, but the box art is just standard protocol for all UM releases.  Weird to not have all the monsters represented, but Uni made its bed.  Now it can lie in it.

I know, but that doesn't mean they couldn't have used a photo of the Creature on the back of the box.

They could have, but they probably had to pay more for that.  Uni's great like that.   ::)  It could also be that they were going with this box art design originally and then shifted gears later, and Creech suffered from being the first one out of the gate.  Would love to see the Invisible Man box to see what they did there.

Could the Chaney license be the difference? I noticed that Wolfman and Phantom have the Chaney name as licensor (no mention of Uni). Creech is licensed exclusively by Universal. Maybe they impose their crappy artwork on all their new products. It sounds like something they would do.

None at all? Universal owns the WM character. The Chaney estate just owns what little of Lon's face shows through the makeup. I could, maybe, see then arguing PD for the Phantom.

Its true. Both Wolfman and Phantom boxes have zero mention of UM copyright. Just Chaney Entertainment. But Creech and Invisible Man have it.

Did you have them in the box, or do they stand on their own (like busts)?

Yeah.  I went back and read through the earlier posts.

I like the way TOTS has you sign up for their newsletter.  You enter your email and are taken to a page where you enter your email again and put in your first and last name.  Then they send you an email with a confirmation button to let them know it is really you and not someone screwing with you.

Where I used to work, we would get bundles of 100 or so postcards to send in for catalogs and samples.  We used to fill out all the postage paid ones for people we didn't like and check the "Please Call Between" times during the most inconvenient hours.
