Tonight I went to a local Fair that was presented in the town I reside in. Within the gates there was a spectacular carnival. Reminiscent of my childhood. Unfortunately, what came to the Fair and Carnival were hundreds of people. I was definitely shocked. The fact, I live in a small town. Where did all these people come from. I mean, really! Tonight was the most populous Carnivals I have ever witnessed in a small town.
With that, I felt uncomfortable. However. There was one attraction/ride that I specifically wanted to see. The colorful, eerie and fun Haunted House. Bypassing the crowd and heading to the destination I intended to see. I stood there, close to the entrance. It was a great and familiar from what I remembered and experience as a young Horror kid, in the early 70s.
My plan was to take as many photos as I could. Then head home. Which I did.
Experiencing tonight, inspired me to start a thread about Carnival Haunted Houses, the different eras and the history.⚰🎃💀🧟♂️

Looks like a great place for a horror film. I would travel a couple of hundred miles for that. Funny, I always pictured you as a big city New Yorker. Have you seen the film, "The Houses October Built"? It's a decent "found footage" movie about a film crew going to extreme Halloween haunts. They mess with the wrong carnys...well, you can take it from there.

Never heard of the film. Sounds fun.
Mord, I was born in upstate New York, in a small town.
My Mom would take my to Haunted and the Fun house when I was little. I loved them.
Later when we moved to West coast, I spent most my childhood at Carnivals. Especially during the Summer months. The Haunted House was my ultimate jam!
Love'd it!
I remember spook house rides before they were themed. They just consisted of scary scenes unrelated to eachother. You had to be a quick study while passing through
because the lights only stayed on for a split second. It's "County Fair" season in my area now and I look forward to sampling their various dark rides. Fair-goers can be
pretty brutal and the spooks within often appear battered and not fully operational. Sometimes the lights don't even come on and all you get is a blast of hot air and
a car horn honk for your trouble. Still, there's a magic and thrill in those spook rides that can't even be matched by a roller coaster. I guess it helps being a monster fan.
I've always loved the sights, sounds, smells and attractions of the midway at carnivals and fall fairs!
And of course I love the rides too including the haunted houses, tacky or not.The Haunted Mansion is the one that sets up at the Canadian National Exposition from about August 16 to September 2 in Toronto:
