Title: BBC’s new take on 'War of the Worlds' starts filming
Post by: Count_Zirock on March 17, 2018, 12:59:54 AM
The brand new BBC adaptation of "War of the Worlds" has started filming in the UK this week. The new three-part adaptation has been penned by Peter Harness, known for his work on "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell" and "Doctor Who." He's written all three scripts this time around with Craig Viveiros directing. This take on the story is set in the Victorian era.

Thanks!  I'm looking forward to this.

I read the book before I saw the movie.  I also remember hearing a radio adaptation that took place in England around the turn of the century that I liked better than the movie - and I love the movie.

ARCHIVE.ORG has several of the MP3'd versions of WAR OF THE WORLDS and some are pretty decent.  Buffalo NY's version, for example.  The Richard Burton version is clearly my least favorite, and I consider it the worst misuse of talent, porn-caliber musak and radio waves I've imagined.  However, I can recommend that fans of WOTW exercise their toleration levels with it, although a Fast-Forward button is a wonderful thing.

I do hope shrill screaming li'l actresses can be avoided in all future WOTW productions.  "Oh please - can't a death ray shut her UP?!!"
