Title: Disney To Buy FOX Film, TV Businesses For $52.4 Billion In Stock
Post by: Monsters For Sale on December 14, 2017, 08:14:53 AM
Just saw this on the Interwebnet:

"Walt Disney Company on Thursday agreed to buy film, television and international businesses from Rupert Murdoch's Twenty-First Century Fox Inc. for $52.4 billion in stock.

Fox assets that will be sold to Disney, include the Twentieth Century Fox movie and cable networks.

Disney will also assume about $13.7 billion of net debt of 21st Century Fox.

Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger, 66, will extend his tenure through the end of 2021 to oversee the integration of the Fox businesses. He has already postponed his retirement from Disney three times. In March, he said he was committed to leaving the company in July 2019."

What might this mean for any Fox properties that generate product for the collectible market?

(Will their newscasters be required to cut off one finger of each hand and wear white gloves on air?)

I assume this doesn't include the FOX channel (home of The Simpson's etc.)  Nor FOX NEWS.

From what I have been reading, looks like Fox is keeping their "news" channel and some of their national sports holdings.  Pretty much everything else is being sold - including their movie & radio production facilities and huge backlog of movies, etc.  That will mean Disney gets their Marvel based movies.  (Two different sources I read disagree on whether The Simpsons is going to Disney.)

Maybe maintaining their studios has become too much of a financial strain.  I could see them selling the studios and leasing them back for the limited time they need to continue the few show they are keeping.

I'm sure we will be getting a lot more details about this deal in the coming days.

Maybe Murdoch's kids just wanna cash out. I could live a swell life with all those billions, even if I never made another nickel!  ;D

You know what this means? After years of being kept separate, Marvel will finally be home to Alien and Predator.
