Title: Series You Rank In Release Order
Post by: Rotting Corpse on October 24, 2017, 09:35:43 PM
What are some movie series that have at least three or more movies (of any genre) where your ranking for them is also the same as the order of their release? With the first being the best, second being the second best, third being the third best, etc.? Some such series where my ranking for them also goes in their release order:

Jurassic Park
RoboCop (original trilogy)
The Mummy (1999 version)
Iron Man (not counting either Avengers film)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (original live-action trilogy)

Child's Play used to be one for me until Curse Of Chucky, which I'd rate above both Bride/Seed Of Chucky. Not yet seen the recent Cult Of Chucky but I will soon with my Halloween Horror viewing in full swing now. Some might disagree with Jurassic Park, but barring the end battle sequence I really didn't like or enjoy Jurassic World much at all and honestly found it pretty boring and stupid as a whole with the strong exception of that one good sequence.

I guess I'd agree with your first 4 choices (haven't seen the Turtles movies).

I'd add the Sigourney Weaver A L I E N series.

Not sure if you were a TMNT fan back in the day, but the first two were definitely staples of my childhood during the 90s.

Never read the comics, or seen any of the movies.

Guess I'd also rank the Reeves SUPERMAN movies in order of appearance.

I still haven't seen the original run of Superman films. My only real exposure to Superman's cinematic run has been Man Of Steel and Batman v Superman; really liked the former while I thought the latter was pretty bad.

BvS was a kind of a mess. Have you Superman Returns (with Brandon Routh)?

Not so far, no. My sole exposure to Superman on film has been Man Of Steel and BVS. He's not my favorite superhero admittedly, but MOS made me like him more and has me interested to read up on some more comics of his as well as catch up on the original run of films.

It's been so long since I last watched them and never even saw 3 in it's entirity, but this is a pretty common opinion on them.

Let me post my ratings for each, on a 0-10 scale:

1 - 10/10
2 - 9/10 (extra point for the awesome RoboCain end battle)
3 - 1/10 (ugh, next to nothing good about this)

The Mummy

1 - 9/10
2 - 8/10
3 - 7/10

Iron Man

1 - 9/10
2 - 8/10

Re-Animator is possibly one for me, after I see Beyond Re-Animator. I recently saw Bride Of Re-Animator for the first time and while not as good as the original it's more of the same gory fun. The consensus seems to be Beyond is the weakest, but I want to see for myself to decide.

Another one I thought of that could be another for me is Jaws. it's been forever since I last watched the sequels and can't remember if 3 or 4 was worse (both are horrendous). The original is easily, unquestionably the best, but I've always liked Jaws 2 and find it underrated. Not as good as the first but still good, and the only sequel in the series worth bothering with.

I like Jaws 2 as well. Underrated. 3 and 4 suck, and i like a lot of bad horror movies so that should say something.

I know what you mean. I can enjoy a cheesy Horror movie now and then but Jaws 3 and 4 are painful to watch. I think Jaws 2 gets unfairly lumped in with them by association, but it's clearly the only good sequel in the series. Nothing was ever going to match or top the original, but I've always enjoyed Jaws 2 a great deal. Plus who doesn't love the burn-scarred shark of the second film.

Another I thought of that could well go in descending order for me (when I see the remainder of the series) is The Crow. Only saw the original which is a favorite of mine, and the sequels all seem to be poorly received with only the third getting the occasional decent comment or rating.

Highlander could be another. I've only seen the original, again, a favorite of mine. The sequels are all terribly received and while the second film seems to be regarded as the worst, occasionally I've seen the others rated lower. It seems with both The Crow and Highlander, the originals are the only ones that matter.

This reminds me how I haven't seen the Hellraisers past Hellseeker, which I think was the sixth one. I don't think I've ever seen a single positive comment ever given to the most recent one, Revelations, and neither Deader or Hellworld are much better-received.

I'd imagine a popular choice for this might be the Psycho series. Believe it or not, despite me being a long-time Horror fan, I've yet to see the original. My sole exposure to Psycho so far has been the fourth film and the Bates Motel TV show.

I've never seen the Psycho films barring the fourth film, which was actually a prequel. Yep, a major Horror fan like myself has gone all these years not seeing the original Psycho, but I will remedy that someday. My main exposure to all things Norman Bates has been the excellent Bates Motel TV show. From what I've seen of the consensus, it seems pretty agreed that the film series is one that declined with each subsequent film.

Here's another I thought of, I Know What You Did Last Summer. The first is very good, the second meh with some okay moments, but the third is so atrocious I have no words.
