Title: Universal Studios’ Classic Monster Café gets updated
Post by: Count_Zirock on October 24, 2017, 05:04:20 PM
"Monsters like Dracula, the Wolf Man, Frankenstein's monster and the Creature from the Black Lagoon are the stuff that nightmares were made of.  These classic creatures, a staple in the Universal Studios film history, have inspired countless impressionable children to tune in to their creative core.  Scores of artists, Film makers, and writers owe a debt to the exciting terror these icons of horror invoked.

'It's only fitting that these marvelous monsters are granted a fitting tribute.  Universal Studios' Classic Monster Café, at Universal Studios Florida, honors these horror heavies in a dazzling display monster memorabilia, movie posters and life size monster mannequins.  Opened nearly twenty years ago, the restaurant recently received a much needed make over."

Am I the only one who sees the irony of Universal redecorating their place with....UNLICENSED garage kit items, and Tom Savini Basil Gogos things. None of which are licensed either, lol. I guess even they realize the best stuff that's being done is by fans, freed from the constraints of style guides and green jackets, lol.

It looks nice!

It is just excellent that such a place exists although some of
the sculptural likenesses are better than others in there. They
should have consulted us here at The UMA!

Very well done...it's beautiful!

Now why they don't put that much effort into merchandising and movies is beyond me.

I had lunch there recently.  Very cool place.

The family and I are headed down to FL in February and will be doing 1 day at Universal. I've already demanded that we eat here, lol. This looks better than what I expected, can't wait!!!

Does anyone know if they sell any Monster merch at the cafe or on park property?

I'm not surprised. Universal Studios theme park has gone through so many changes in thirty years, the theme park is not interesting or exciting to visit.

"However, the picture (The Mummy 2017) bombed with critics and audiences, grossing just $410 million worldwide and losing the studio somewhere between $60-100 million."

How the hell much did it cost to make this movie? Half a billion?!

It makes me wonder if the proposed Universal Monsters land will even see the light of day? Seems unlikely given they won't even allow them an acknowledgment in a glorified hot dog and burgers diner now. It was one of the last things there that was cool. Kong is gone. Jaws is gone. The Psycho house they filmed Psycho 4 in has been gone for ages. The Alfred Hitchcock show is gone.  Sad. :'(

They replaced JAWS with Harry Potter. That says it all.

'Had lunch there years ago. 'Sad to see it close but always thought
the classic monsters deserved more respectful treatment anyhow.

The Universal Monsters have been popping up annually during Halloween Horror Nights and the latest reports are that a dedicated Universal Monster area is still happening so it very well may be that the cafe gets resurrected in that area but we'll have to wait until at least 2025 to see what happens.

Yeah, I don't see any reason to view this as evidence that the Universal Monsters part of Epic Universe isn't happening now. As a monsters fan, I liked the cafe a lot when we visited, but I did think it was an odd pairing, and somewhat kitschy (not that that's necessarily a bad thing). So I'm optimistic this means that they'll be getting a larger and more respectful presence in their Orlando parks. The other day it was leaked that one of the haunted houses at the Halloween Horror Night in Hollywood will be Universal Monsters themed again, as they have the past several years. They also had the Universal Monsters pop-up store opened recently.

I went to Halloween Horror Nights last year, and went to the cafe. If they are closing it, I'm glad I saw that before that happened.

I just got back from there today. I peaked in the window, and saw some awesome busts just sitting there. I was going to inquire about them, but never got around to it.
