Title: Captain Action Spiderman
Post by: Gasport on June 11, 2017, 11:07:20 AM
Okay, so maybe not monster, but very vintage [1967] and noteworthy due to the price it just fetched on eBay...just part of a very impressive collection sold by this seller.     http://www.ebay.com/itm/382114438505?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (http://www.ebay.com/itm/382114438505?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)

That's in amazing condition and what a price  :o I don't know if I'm more shocked by the end price or the shipping fee of $43?!

Yeah, thought the same thing about the shipping fee, yet considering the end price, it must be somewhat expensive to insure...

I know what you mean about the insurance but I think if I sold something at that value I'd throw in free postage just for some Karma that it gets there in on piece.

Such a great item though and I wonder what the seller paid originally.

That is a Grail piece in its genre.

I had a fairly complete Capt Action and Action Boy collection when I was a tyke. It was a fun, unique toy. My absolute faves were Capt America and Green Hornet pieces. Great fun!

Same here, Mord - got some the first Christmases there were available.

The modern repros of the costumes are very nice, too; that's where I finally got my Phantom, Ranger and Hornet.

Wow! $22,777.77, just wow.

I'm wondering now whether the Spider-Man is particularly scarce relative to the other Captain Action figures or whether Spider-Man just tends to fetch a premium for the same reason Spider-Man comics fetch a premium - his popularity.

???

Moreover can anyone fill us in on anything else regarding David Schafer or John Guippie? Were they toy collectors in general or just action figure collectors? How far back into the twentieth century did their collections extend?

???

It's a little of both.

CAPTAIN ACTION is recalled by many of us warmly; but it was never a big sales success for Ideal. The ones that did get bought, got well-played with!

I can testify to that. Mine were beyond well-played-with, all the way to downright tortured.

This guy is a big time toy dealer. Will clean out toy shops if they cut him deals. One of many people i follow on ebay. Local toy dealer around here knows him. >:D

Mord, after my CA figure died, I used the suits on GI Joe! Still have a few items from my '66 - '67:

Bat's cape & cowl, Supe's mask & Krypto, and I think Robin's suit. The stuff was much better made than the Megos that followed it.

Great idea. Did you have Dr. Evil, too? I loved the Nehru jacket and medallion.

I didn't have the Doc back then.

I did get the first PM repro; then eventually an original (though it's almost impossible to find one with a "true blue" head these days - that vintage plastic fades & spots.)
