Long story short, I am rebuilding my mask collection after foolishly selling off many wonderful pieces years ago. I contacted Dr. Lady about locating one of my favorites It! The Terror from Beyond Space and he graciously found a copy hiding out in the attic of the Horror Hotel. I quickly snatched him up as well as the monster from I Married a Monster from Outer Space as well as a couple more. Both masks arrived and are safely in my collection.

As I continue my hunt to restore and rebuild my collection, I'll add more pics. I have figured out that the hunt is kinda the best part!!!
Awesome masks
The Game is aFoot..a Hand..er uh aHead!
Enjoy again this Crazy Creepy hobby we all share.
I look forward to seeing you post your new finds, as you Piece your Monsters of Latex back together-
Two great masks from the talented David and Laura! A perfect start to rebuilding your collection. I've always had a soft spot in my heart and head for those characters. Can't wait to see what your next addition will be. Be sure to post pictures for us!

I definitely will keep adding pics. Part of my previous collection was all of the calendar re-issues, so I'm always on the hunt for them (just managed to find the first 2 recently), plus others.
I prefer masks of creatures that were in films, so that is mainly where I focus.
I just made a deal for 2 special pieces that should arrive sometime next week!!
^Or maybe sooner...Muwahahahaha!
Those masks are outstanding. Looks like you have them in detolf, which is always good. The thing with any kind of cases is, as the collections grow, it makes it almost impossible to keep all of one's collectibles in cases. Unless you have a gigantic room and can afford to case hundreds of masks and figures. About 90% of my items are on shelves. A small portion of my collection are in cases.

I am almost as crazy about displaying my collection as I am in acquiring it. I love looking at pics of peoples collections and am constantly thinking of ways to enhance my displays.
Space is always a concern, especially with large pieces like masks, but when done right they can be very cool.
Thanks to StyreneDude I was able to add 2 dream pieces to my growing collection. I consider Carol Hicks to be one of the masters and being able to have these pieces is truly amazing.

The truly best part of this transaction was getting to meet StyreneDude in person and making a friend. He works about an hour from my house so I drove to pick the pieces up. We spent a long time talking monsters, posters, masks, and all things geek.
He is an amazing artist, and if you are thinking of commissioning a painting, I encourage that you give him a shout. I am already considering having him do some work for me.
That's the best of this part of this hobby, building community.
Congrat's on your great new additions.
Thank you so much Creepy!
I'm very happy those masks found a loving home.
It was a blast meeting you and getting to chat about all things monster!
It's always a pleasure to make new friends...I'm really looking forward to that lunch!
My treat!
Two more great looking pieces! Chris Lee was such an awesome monster, and these represent really well. Super finishing work on both heads, StyreneDude! Kudos all around!
I consider The Hideous Sun Demon to be the 2nd best looking monster of the 50's Golden Age of Horror, right behind The Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Dr. Lady was able to do his dark magic and I just received him today! I am soooo glad to have this guy back into my collection.
Dr. Lady's paint work is simply amazing! True art!!

I've got a few rare masks for sale on Ebay now that have been in my collection for about 30 years. Need to let a few go to make room. Take a look at all my listings.

My latest editions:
1st up, the vampire girl from Blood of Dracula, painted by the amazing Dr. Lady, and I assume haired by Laura. I love 50's monsters and this may be my new favorite piece.

To be fair,
Blood of Dracula is far from an Academy Award flick, but I like it.

I am super happy to add this piece to my collection. It scratches both my Mask collecting itch and my screen used props and costumes collecting itch. This is a screen used Narn mask from the show Babylon 5. Babylon 5 is easily my favorite Sci-Fi show that has been on T.V. so I was glad to acquire this piece. I also have 2 other Babylon 5 aliens coming from the Propstore of London, but have to wait a few more months until they are in my hands!!

Well, I'm going to be checking this place every day! I am gasping at your newest additions to your fantastic mask collection! That Sun Demon....oh my heavens! You are an inspiration to those of us that may have given up the hunt for our holy grail collectible. What a joy it is to see your beautiful masks displayed! I look forward to your next treasure. :)
Here's a "Holy Grail" piece that I managed to track down. This is an original Topstone Shock Monster, as seen in the pages of Famous Monsters. There are only a few left in this condition. This is an ultra-rare piece.

From its rooted hair to its marshmallow teeth, that character has really undergone
some transformations since its debut in the late '50s. Congrats on a classic score.

Here's another recent, vintage addition to my Crypt. The Topstone Mummy. This is one of my favorite Topstone masks. This one is in amazing condition, still soft and it looks great.

The mail man had another suprise for me today. My Campus Monster (from The Monster on Campus) arrived on my doorstep from the great Dr. Lady. This is another fantastic Carol Hicks sculpt and now one of my new favorites.
It's been a bit since I have added anything to my mask collection. I have been more active adding posters, vinyl LPs, and books lately. However, I did recently grab this Laura, The Vampire Witch by Distortions Unlimited. It was a Monster of the Month selection back when that was still going on. The sculpt was done by the late, great Henry Alvarez. He based it on a Laura Lady life cast that was done in the early 90's.
The story on the mask goes that in 1859, a group of witches found an old, abandoned cabin that they wanted to use for dark sacrifices. Unknown to them, a group of vampires were sleeping in the basement. When the sun went down the vampires awoke. The rest, as they say, is horror history.
I grabbed this guy from Trick or Treat Studios. They had the license for the 1933 King Kong, but it appears they no longer have it.
I needed to add this guy to the collection while I could still get him.
This is a big mask and very, very cool!!! Long live The King!!!

Wait just a gosh darn minute these masks aren't up on eBay are they?
These are some great additions Creepy! I especially like the Topstone Mummy. I had one as a kid and the one you have is in beautiful condition. Hard to believe it survived all these years in that kind of shape. I've had the ToTS Kong mask on my radar for a while now as I don't have any gorillas in my collection and that would make a nice one. I've heard they don't have the license any more as well.

Yep. I foolishly sold most of what you saw here. I am now rebuilding it...again. :o
The reason I sold and am currently replacing is an interesting tale worth telling. I am a widower who raised 3 kids, ones currently in the Navy, one graduated college and has a great job, and my darling daughter is a High School Junior. I was remarried for about 10 years (she's the reason collection #1 left), but she split and good riddance's. That's when I started collection #2 as seen in this thread.
The reason that I sold my stuff was that, frankly, I was self-conscious about what I collected. I worried that when family and friends came by, they would think I was some type of freak. I was forced to host a party and in an attempt to "fit in", I sold the collection. It was stupid. My kids were the ones who told me that I had to be myself and screw what others thought.
I have finally reached a point in my career/life that I can live comfortably and pursue my hobbies. I love monsters and always have and have focused my collection on various things. Masks and Vintage Posters are my passion and that's what I will collect and screw what everyone else thinks!
So with that explanation, I give you my new, new collection ;D.
I have a room in my house dedicated to my love of monsters and masks. It is full of all kinds of toys, model kits and masks galore. I know what you mean about feeling like people may think you are weird. I have often worried about people seeing my collection and thinking I'm juvenile at best and a psycho at worst. I threw away a lot of my collection one time. I kept a lot of stuff, but I regret the stuff I did lose. I keep the door to the room closed if I have guests over who might not understand collection monster memorabilia.

I think this is a topic that could fill up a whole other thread. However, first, what is the mask/bust on the far left right above the Wolf Man mask? It looks like a really cool alien mask.
Ok, I think many collectors experience your feelings to some degree. I would never sell any of my things because of someone else. The only way I would sell would be if I needed the money. Even then, it would be a last resort.
I am glad you are starting again and now lesson learned. I think as we get older we start to care less what others think. We become who we are and do what we want, other's judgement becomes irrelevant. We have been alive long enough to know that we want to do what makes us happy and we have earned the right through age and experience.

I have a very small circle of friends that I have had for a very long time. Only a couple are into Horror stuff, the others, they are not into it. However, They are friends with me, the person, not my collection.
There have been instances with new people that saw my collection and they faded out of the picture shortly after. I assume it was because of the collection. That's ok, I can understand. However, that is really their issue, not mine. I am very passionate about horror and monsters, not going to pretend I am not or not do what I love because some people, let alone strangers might not approve or like it.
Also, I think there still exists a certain biased towards horror, for example. If you have a movie about the mafia and 20 people are murdered throughout the film, that is acceptable. However, 20 people murdered in a horror movie and people think its not right or strange. It all depends on the story. A great story and great effects is what matters. Also, sometimes, you just enjoy a movie for what it is.
I think having a neat set up, might help. I mean if the collectibles room looks like a hoarders mess and a person walks in, it might be a bit off putting. However, if someone walks into a museum like or store like set up where everything is neat and beautifully displayed, they may admire the time and commitment it took to get the room looking so neat. However, this is just speculation, I do not think like the majority, so I can't assume what they might be thinking.
I say as long as it's not hurting anyone and you like it, do it.

Glad to see you back collecting masks. Go for it and don't worry what people think. Enjoy yourself!

It's kinda sad, actually. If someone has a large sports memorabilia collection...jerseys on the wall, helmets, etc... No one would bat an eye. Have out what we collect and it's different.

Good to see you back into it sir! I've long realized I'm never going to get laid because of my mask collection or toy collection and I'm certainly not going to sell my collections to be accepted by friends or family. I've come to terms I'm not going get laid because I'm married and I don't value someone else's opinions enough to give up something I like.
BTW that I Spit On Your Grave movie poster could be considered offensive you should really part ways with that :). I've got an open space
