Title: Svengoolie on ME TV
Post by: judd on January 13, 2017, 01:30:53 PM
One of my local broadcast channels started showing ME TV.  They air older TV shows.  On Saturday night Svengoolie's, the Chicago horror movie host is on.  He hosts old horror movies with sketches on between the breaks.

Thought I would pass along the information.

A buddy of mine watches it somewhat regularly, but I've never caught an episode. It's nice that there's still a host out there fighting the good fight.

We have MeTV here but haven't really checked it out all that much.  We also have an over the air station called Comet that plays some cool films and plays episodes of both the 1963 and 1995 Outer Limits.  I switched the input last night after my daughter had fallen asleep watching Netflix and came in on the middle of Theatre of Blood.

I love Svengoolie. It reminds me of the old days of watching our Dr. SHOCK on Saturday nights. I also enjoy Comet TV. Lots of cool movies and shows.

Philadelphia. Loved his show and got to see him in person a couple times in the '70s.

I expected it was the Philly Shock. I watched Dr. Shock and Dingbat in Chattanooga.

I never miss it.  They changed the time on Saturdays from 10pm to 8pm recently.  Watched Tarantula and The Brides of Dracula the last couple of weeks.

I always try to watch him on Saturday night, Comet channel too.  And, there is Retro-TV, which has a young girl as a horror host, really neat.  Sometimes when I switch to watch these, I'll get moans and groans, so I sometimes give in and switch back during commercials.

Svengoolie reminds me of my local TV horror host, the Kiro TV Vampire. He used to host Nightmare Theater for the Seattle area. Unfortunately that show ended years ago. Sometimes I'll just watch the opening of Svengoolie to enjoy the sets he uses. Nightmare Theater used a shot of a fog shrouded Adams Family haunted house model in its opening credits - pretty cool for a kid growing up in the 60s! I appreciate that Svengoolie keeps this tradition going.

Love Svengoolie.  But his rolling "R"s are starting to grate on me.

I live in Chicago, so I have been watching Sven on METV for years, and watched him on WFLD way back when.  I've grown p watching Sven.  Met him a few times also.

Like it better when he was on at 10.  I haven't seen him much since the time change.  don't get settled in for the night till around 9:00. Tried DVR ing it and watching it at 10 but it doesn't seem to work out.

10pm was an ideal start time in my house.  I never watch it at 8pm.  Has to be 10pm.

I also feel 8 is too early. I have the DVR set each week and watch it later (9 or 10). What's nice about that is being able to fast forward through the commercials.

As long has he is still on the air - I'm happy whatever time he is on. We don't have enough horror hosts on TV.

Oh, I'm glad he's on.  It's just that in my world, the viewing time was perfect when it was 10pm.  Thank goodness for DVR. 😎
