Title: "Frankie's Holiday" ad
Post by: AlwaysWitty on November 21, 2016, 07:19:13 PM
I don't know if this is the right place for this, but if not, feel free to move it.

I just saw this holiday advertisement from Apple featuring our favorite reanimated assembly of corpse parts, Frankenstein ('s Monster) and it put a lump in my throat and brought tears to my eyes. I have a very deep personal emotional connection with the character so things like this resonate with me. I hope, and suspect, it'll resonate with a few of you too.

Aw! That was sweet! Always wondered what Frankie looked like when he got older.

Indeed. This ad also does a lot of things that seem like they should be obvious but, to my knowledge, were never done before.

Frankenstein is depicted as practically Dickensian, with his limp and top hat, not to mention Dickens wrote the most famous Christmas ghost story of all time. He's also played by Brad Garrett, a man who is a perfectly obvious pick for the role with his massive height, deep voice, and big eyes full of emotion. However he is also most well known for his role on Everybody Loves Raymond in which he played Robert Barone, son of Frank Barone. Frank Barone was played by Peter Boyle, who of course famously played the Frankenstein Monster himself in Young Frankenstein.

So many elements of it make perfect sense, and put all together like this, executed with such perfection, it's really something special.

Wow, that was really touching. Love to see the monster portrayed sympathetically. I didn't even realize it was Brad Garrett unit you pointed it out. Perfect. Thanks for sharing.  :)

Thanks, Wolf!

There's an outtake from RAYMOND where Garrett comes into the kitchen with a lunchbox, doing such a PERFECT Herman Munster that he cracks up the cast!

Happy Thanksgiving from this sometime Monster,
-Craig

Why did they cut the part where he throws the little girl into the lake?

Except for the reference to the ol' Alumite Caps, this is Mother Mary's Monster more than Uni's.

Aw, that was sweet!

Beautifully photographed.  I think there is a holiday screen-saver or two in there somewhere.

Very nice Wolf. Thank you for posting this.

Nothing like a little Holiday cheer.

I LOVE this commercial. I first caught this with Frankie walking into the village. With his limp and tophat, I assumed it was a Scrooge riff. I was very surprised when he put Christmas light bulbs into his bolts!

I also love the little bits in the longer, YouTube version, such as Mary Shelly's portrait on the wall of Frankie's hovel.
