Mad Monster Party has announced a new venue for its next horror and pop culture convention in 2017, relocating from its home of the previous five years in Charlotte, North Carolina to nearby Rock Hill, South Carolina, about 20 miles from the prior location, and they have already announced the first two guests.

Haruo Nakajima, who portrayed the King of Monsters in the original 1954 "Godzilla" will stomp his way to Mad Monster Party's new home in Rock Hill as the first celebrity guest announced for 2017. In addition to playing Godzilla more than any other actor (12 times!), Haruo Nakajima also played King Kong in "King Kong Escapes," as well as Mothra, Rodan, Baragon, and Gaira from "War of the Gargantuas," and he was one of the bandits in "Seven Samurai."

The second guest announced is Bill Bryan, who not only played iconic characters like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in the original 1984 "Ghostbusters" and the Pit Bitch in Sam Raimi's 1992 "Army of Darkness," but he also fabricated them, as an FX wizard who has worked with Sid and Marty Krofft, Randy Cook, Steve Johnson, Stan Winston, KNB, and many other renowned FX shops.
Characters with which Bryan has been associated include Mr. Staypuft, SIL, The Pit Bitch, Doc Ock, Captain Eo, Teddy Ruxpin, King Kong, Chucky, Rex, The Ninja Turtles, The Puttermans, The Energizer Bunny, the Cat in the Hat, and many others.
Regarding the venue relocation, in statement posted on Facebook yesterday, event organizers explain: "Why South Carolina? Many reasons, but ultimately every move we make is only influenced by opportunities to improve the Mad Monster experience for the fans. Fact is, we draw about the same amount of fans from SC as we do NC. We almost ended up in this new venue in 2014 but ended up choosing the Hilton University Place. It's no secret that we've had issues with Charlotte venues every year since the beginning. That's why our website and print ads have always intentionally read: 'The Carolinas' Horror/SciFi/Pop Culture' convention, knowing the show might travel. We were convinced to never return to the previous venue the minute we opened the 2016 show.
"If your question alludes to the highly publicized N.C. political situation, I'll say this...We welcome and support EVERYONE (almost everyone, some people are just crappy). Some celebrities and sponsors may object to local policies, but Mad Monster is solely motivated by our promise to bring you the best shows possible and realize that moving away just for a political statement can also hurt the very fans we'd be trying to 'support'. Our new venue is around 20 miles or so from old one. We figure if at 87 years old, Haruo Nakajima can travel 7000 miles to bring Godzilla to his fans, we believe his fans will be willing to travel an extra half hour to see him!"

No one will ever take the place of Jim Siedow or Ken Evert, but you can at least fill in for them in this once-in-a-lifetime photo op! Chop Top still has his original screen-worn wardrobe, the actual screen-shot Nubbins from the film will make a rare appearance courtesy of his new roommate, JASON GUY - be sure to see the Jason Guy Collection on the new special edition Blu Ray release of TCM2. Jason will also be providing Leatherface's mask straight from Savini's mold.
This photo op is EXTREMELY LIMITED. You will have a choice of The Family Photo Op or solo photo ops with Chop Top, Leatherface or Stretch individually. The photo op takes place Saturday March 25th at Mad Monster Party in Rock Hill, SC. Bill Moseley, Caroline Williams and Bill Johnson will signing all 3 days but only be in costume for the photo op on Saturday.

Think you got the fright stuff to be the next Miss SCarolina? Then this is your chance to show what you got and strut your stuff on the Mad Monster pageant stage. Rock your most enticingly monstrous outfit and show off your ghoulish personality while answering celebrity judges questions during the stage walk. Knock the judges and audience dead with your unique talent. Last but not least, we want to hear your best bone chilling scream in our scream competition. There will be a $500 cash prize for 1st place and runner up prizes for 2nd and 3rd place. Each Miss Scarolina contestant receives a weekend pass to enjoy the Mad Monster convention and promote yourself in the pageant. Contestants must be 18 years or older to participate.

Whether you're a hardcore costumer or a casual fan that was always looking for a reason to put that little extra effort into a Halloween costume, here it is!
One grand prize winner will win a $500 cash Grand Prize and there will be sponsored prizes for 2nd and 3rd place! The contest will be held Saturday, March 25th where a winner will be selected.
Rules are simple (and pretty much common sense):
Nothing Dangerous
No sharp blades/weapons, no open flames, no projectile or spraying/dripping liquids or solids (no mess!) of any kind, no animals dead or living (and we're not talking about "leather" or "hides" - you know what we mean).
No Full Nudity (wouldn't be much of a "costume") Admission to MMP is required to compete in the contest. MMP reserves the right to make the final decision as to weather a costume is dangerous or inappropriate, etc.
Admission to Mad Monster Party is required to compete.
Other than that - be creative and have fun!

HEADS UP! Due to health reasons (and doctor's orders), Haruo Nakajima cannot attend March 24th-26th. Jim Cirronella (Haruo's rep) said that Haruo's friend TSUTOMU KITAGAWA (Godzilla from Godzilla X through Final Wars, King Ghidorah, etc.) wants to support Haruo and Godzilla fans. "Tom" (Tsutomu) has agreed last minute to come Party with us and Bin Furuya. Tom will bring Haruo back all of our love and best wishes and if any fans would like to record a greeting, we will be doing so.
NO GUEST at Mad Monster Party is ever "replaceable" and we all wish Haruo a speedy recovery. Jim says Haruo still plans on joining us in Arizona in May and appreciates all of his fans. Of course, all photo ops purchased for Haruo will be completely refunded or you can apply it to Tsutomu Kitagawa's photo op. GODZILLA stomps his way to Mad Monster Party 2017!
TSUTOMU KITAGAWA (Godzilla, King Ghidorah) joins the MADness in Rock Hill, SC March 24th-26th!
Although best known for having portrayed the Millennium series GODZILLA, Tsutomu Kitagawa's career as a suit actor and stunt performer has spanned more than 40 years. He first joined Sonny Chiba's Japan Action Club in 1975 and began appearing as a supporting player in many of Toei's Super Sentai programs, including Battle Fever J (1979) and Denziman (1980) in which he
served as an understudy for series regular Kenji Ohba.
By the time of 1984's Bioman, Kitagawa had become a series regular himself, portraying Bioman team member Blue Three. He continued as a lead suit actor in popular Super Sentai entries such Changeman (1985), Flashman (1986), Maskman (1987) and Dairanger (1993), culminating with the role of Ninja Black
in 1994's Kakuranger, the action scenes of which were utilized in the third season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as well as the Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers mini-series.
It was after Kakuranger that Kitagawa left Japan Action Club to work as a freelance stunt actor, as well as a motion capture performer for video games. He eventually was chosen to portray King Ghidorah in the 1998 Toho Company production, Mothra 3, which led to him being offered the coveted role of the King
of Monsters in Godzilla 2000 Millennium the following year. Kitagawa continued to play Godzilla in the subsequent Millennium series films, including Godzilla X Megaguirus (2000), Godzilla X MechaGodzilla (2002) and Godzilla Tokyo SOS (2003), until the monster's final Japan-produced feature in 2004, Godzilla Final
Wars, in which he also served as suit action advisor to the production. Beginning in 2007, Kitagawa returned to working with Japan Action Enterprise (formerly Japan Action Club) and has had numerous guest appearances in recent Super Sentai series and films such as Gekiranger, Go-Onger, Gokaiger, Go-Busters, Kyoryuger, ToQger and Ninninger as both a stunt and drama actor.

Just got the very sad word that Linda Miller ("King Kong Escapes") has to cancel her appearance due to health issues. She explains herself in this thoughtful letter to her fans.

I got sick the end of last week and had a rough weekend but thought "FOR SURE" I would be okay for this weekend. I had my bags already packed, snacks ready for the car ride down to SC, and was so very, very excited about seeing all of you again. But then yesterday I had a relapse and had no choice but to decide to stay home. My heart is willing to go but my body just won't cooperate. (Actually you may want to thank me for not infecting all of you - my doctor says I'm still contagious.) But whether I'm there or not, I know you're going to have an awesome time and hope you'll all come out and support the convention. If you have a chance, thank the promoter for inviting me to attend in the first place. I will continue to see you on the fan page, and we'll keep you posted on any new events. Hopefully, this will be the last of the celebrity cancellations. This time of year is getting very bad for colds and other types of viruses.
Our dear Bin Furuya was stricken with a terrible flu at the Airport on his way here to be with us. We're sorry to say he won't be able to join us this weekend. Here's a message from his agent to his concerned fans:

I'm very sorry to have to report that Ultraman actor Bin Furuya became very ill yesterday at Narita Airport, on his way to the USA for the show this weekend. He had even posted to Facebook that he was at the airport and looking forward to seeing his American friends, just an hour prior to becoming sick which caused him to miss his departing flight. He has since been diagnosed with a contagious stomach virus and is not being allowed to fly.
In light of Haruo Nakajima and then Linda Miller having to cancel their appearances due to illness, this additional cancellation is not only especially difficult for all of the fans who are traveling to meet the Japanese actors, but also for the organizers of Mad Monster Party who have invested a significant amount of time, money and promotion in these guests only to have an unfortunate situation occur that is entirely out of their control. In all the years that I've been managing convention guests, it is unprecedented for us to have three guest cancellations due to illness. Please know that organizer Eben McGarr has done everything within his power to accommodate the overseas actors, including offering to pay additional costs for last-minute flight changes or on-site medical care. He has gone way above and beyond what is expected from any convetion promoter, just for the sake of his valued customers.
Godzilla and Super Sentai actor Tsutomu Kitagawa has arrived in South Carolina and is looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend, even though his friends and colleagues can not be here and are dearly missed.
