Well, I do.
All of this talk of custome made pieces got me to thinking about one of my faves.
Here in The Roebuck house we celebrate Saint Nick's Day. The feast of Saint Nicholas is celebrated on the 6th of December.
In our youth we would get our stockings filled with pop tarts and pencils with our names on them- stuff like that.
So here is me 2 weeks ago with my personal stocking!

Kelly made it before we were married and had the great Tony Pitocco paint it for her (me).

By the way, surprised Kim Darby wasn't around because look who was trying to get into my stocking when I came down that morning!

I thought I was the only one who practiced "Sankt Nikolaus" night. I've kept the tradition up in my house but kind of glossed over "Black Peter" a bit.
Fantastic stocking, I want one.
That is a cool stocking and a cute little DBAOTD/Bigfoot critter. I never really knew anything about Saint Nick's Day traditions, so this post was educational. It's like a little pre-Christmas before the main event.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY cool stocking, Dan! Reminds me of my birthday cake that my wife and the kids had done for me this year:

My mom used to do St. Nick's day with us. We would set out our shoes by the door and in the morning they would be filled with candy and little prizes. It was a lot of fun.
WOW, awesome stocking!!
Never celebrated St. Nick's Day -- but did make this sculpture of the ol' fella (Haddon Sunblom style) a few years back.

I celebrate St. Nicholas Day on the 6th; always give my friends a little present of some sort and some sweeties.
65 years ago in Germany, my Mum awoke on St. Nicholas Day and found a lump of coal in her wooden shoes and a switch---to this day she still wonders what she did wrong to get such naughty presents.
My Advent Calendar was made in West Germany(yes, its that old)and depicts brown bears playing in the snow "Baren Spielen Im Schnee"--when I open the little door on the number six, there's a little Father Christmas with a plate of oranges.
I miss getting the German CARE packages of Christmas past, filled with all sorts of really good chocolate, assorted ornaments, always a small branch from the Christmas tree of my Grandparents and the Marzipan---just isn't Christmas without Marizpan.
"Meek"(Schmeck gut!)
Wow!! The image just jumps of the stocking!
Dan. That looks like a rather large stocking. Are you sure you've been that good? ;D

Terry, awesome sculpt!! I have been a Sundblom fan for years. His nickname was "Sunny". I read where once a delivery boy was carrying one of his paintings to an advertising client, and the wind swept it into the East river. Sundblom simply sat down and repainted the thing immediately! Just an amazing talent.
Thanks for sharing!
Mike
That is very, very cool! There's something about a Santa-stein that just seems spot-on. Thanks for showing it.

Dan, cool thread!
Terry, great sculpt - per usual! Sundblom pretty much defines the look of "Santa Claus" to this Silver-Age kid ("St. Nicholas," that's another matter!)
Here's a Right Jolly Old Elf that I made for my "Mego Secret Santa" a few Christmases ago:

We too celebrate St. Nicholas day (and leave shoes outside overnight!)
Oh, and Dan, 'Don't be Afraid of the Dark'...just make sure that critter is boarded back up in the old downstairs chimmney. That should keep him out of your stocking. LOL.
Merry Christmas

Believe in him? I've seen him! When I was six, I was asleep in the living room on Christmas eve, and I woke up before dawn to see a man in red putting presents under the tree. The size was wrong for anyone I know. and Aside from my brother claiming to be in the suit- He was TOO small- then it had to be Santa.
I DID believe in Santa - big-time.
Do I STILL believe in the real St. Nicholas, of Turkey? Of course!
Celebrated his Feast Day last night by presenting our Quicksilver Radio Theater version of "A Christmas Carol" to the Church of St. Rita on Staten Island last night (humblingly, to a Standing "O" response.)
Merriest,
-Craig
Santa will always be alive in my heart.
I'm a big fan of the Man in Red...but had no idea about St. Nicholas Day! Thanks for sharing, and the stocking is of course, awesome.

I guess I was a true believer in Santa until age 7. From 7-10, I had my doubts. By 11, I knew it was just a myth, but one that I loved. Still enjoy all the old Rankin/Bass Christmas specials, "Miracle on 34th Street" (except that horrible remake from 1994), and "A Charlie Brown Christmas." I played Santa a few times for local daycare centers in the '80s and early '90s, before my knees gave out. Even had my own Santa suit, which I eventually donated to a fire house. Unfortunately, I don't think I have any photos from those days.

Terry, that captures Sundblom's Santa (the main one from my childhood) better than most of the commercial iterations of it that I've seen.
Merriest,
-Craig
I do believe! Thanks for the link, and great stocking and the little DBATD guy!
