Title: Drugs ,Christmas, and death
Post by: Tom Smith Monsternut on December 22, 2008, 08:09:58 AM
I know , I know , a cheery title :-[ But that is what our Holiday turned into this weekend when my 22 year old niece overdosed and died. What a tragic shame for someone so young to die like that and on Christmas week never the less.
This epidemic of drug abuse among our young has got to stop before it is too late for more of our children.
So it is going to be a sad Holiday for us and my poor brother in law's family this year so say a prayer for our niece Morgan and her surviving family on this sad Christmas for our family.
Please watch over your own children and families keep them safe and free from drug abuse all the year round and pray for those who suffer from this terrible addiction.

On a positive note.. She was an organ donor and her passing will help 8 people to survive and live a fuller life.
The greatest Christmas present anyone can give.

RIP Moe,, we love you.

Tom

My sympathies as well, Tom.  I've seen too many people go down that road -- and I still don't know why anyone does.  I do hope someday we'll find a way to avoid such tragedies.

Absolutely horrific... So sorry for your loss, Tom. I am blessed to have a 22 year old daughter and 15 year old son who don't like even hanging around with friends who do drugs. I teach guitar for a living and unfortunately see a lot of kids who do indulge in this garbage. I'm in an unusual position because since i can play their favorite songs and speak to them on their level, they trust me enough to talk about this stuff to me. Don't know whether or not they take my advice seriously but they listen intently when i tell them to stay as far away from that crap as they possibly can. I can only pray they do. My prayers are with you, your niece and your family in what should be a time of celebration.

Tom,

So sorry to hear of your loss. She has left 8 people a wonderful gift. I'm a donor too and this is a silver lining, no matter how I end up passing away.

You're in my thoughts

Such a rough late '08 for our UMA family already, and now this... God, Tom, I'm so sorry to read this! I can imagine how it must be for your family; my own family has been through a few similar events over the years, and the devastation is beyond words.
I pray for you, and applaud your courage for writing those words-beyond-words to us.

God bless you.

Tom, I simply don't have the words brother. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to you and your family. Addictions with similarly tragic outcomes run deeply through my family,so there but for the Grace of God go I.

I wonder how many of us MonsterKids were positively influenced by Uncle Forrey's admonitions to stay clean??

Thanks all.. We are hanging in there..but it is very tough. Her being a donor is the only positive thing about this whole thing.
We found out that her liver has been transplanted into a dying 6 year old girl and it has given her a new lease on life .
As my wife has said many times over the last few days the Christmas miracle we were praying for  her to recover has taken on a new meaning and a new direction. A miracle of new life for others..

We still have to get through the funeral on Friday but I think we can cope and get through it together.

Thank you my friends for all your well wishes.

We at the UMA are more then a message board we are a extended family.

I wish you all the best and Happiest Holidays  from your UMA brother Tom

!

Peace ,happiness, good heath ,and Love to you all and your families.

Tom, I'm so very sorry for the loss to you and your brother's family.  If you will permit me, may God watch over all of you.  The 6yr. old girl is at least one good thing from this horrible tragedy, though I know that doesn't fill the pain in your heart.  My prayers and condolences go out to you, and her surviving family members.

Tom,

That is so incredibly sad.  The unfortunate thing is that a lot of young people think that they are beyond harm's way.  They think that they can control their demons, but in the end, it's a crap shoot whether they get through it all intact.

Certainly, the transplant story does offer something positive to focus on.  Another possible glimmer of hope is that someone close to her may learn from her mistake and steer clear of drugs.

Peace to you and your family.

Rob
