Don-Con has come and gone this weekend and I can't say enough about how great it was. The experience of a lifetime for a mask fan! For those unfamiliar this was a one time event honoring the legacy of the great Don Post Studios. I went both days and am exhausted today from coming off the natural high that 2 days of Don-Con put me on! I met so many wonderful people there, the sense of community was overwhelming! In attendance was an amazing gathering of greats in the mask making industry. I brought my TOTS Fulci Zombie and had Justin Mabry sign it which was very cool. Lee Lambert's 2nd edition of his Don Post book is absolutely incredible! So glad to have obtained a copy. I made a nice mask score from Ron Chaney over the weekend that I'll do a post on sometime this week. Thanks to everyone there, especially Gracebuster, for making it a weekend I'll never forget! :)

Here's the Mummy A I purchased from Ron Chaney's personal collection that both he and Don Post signed. It was as pristine as the day it was made and so was the box! Ron was an incredibly nice guy and I had a long conversation with him about his dad that I thoroughly enjoyed. Don was very gracious as well. I kidded him that he was going to get sick of me because I kept bugging him to sign things. He laughed and said that he didn't mind at all. I'll post some close ups of the mask soon. :)

Wow, great score, Glenn. The thing looks beautiful (the signatures make even that more special). I'm so glad you had a great time. Sorry I couldn't go with you (I'm trying to limit my walking these days).

Thanks Mord! Appreciate it! I'm not sure if you would have liked it anyway. A lot of the weekend was spent with mask guys (and gals) talking about masks for hours on end. I certainly dug it though. ;D
Another thread with some more pics.

Thanks, Glenn. Don't get me wrong, I love masks. I just don't collect them. I think your collection is becoming quite formidable. I imagine it will take over your apartment by this time next year.

If I don't watch it I'll go broke. If you see a guy on the street corner holding a cardboard sign surrounded by masks it's probably me. The sign would probably read "will work for masks". ;) ;D

Oh yeah, I see that all the time on the 405 offramp.

It's been ten years to the day since DonCon took center stage
in Burbank CA. Let's mark its decennial with a look back at
some frightful sights of this weird and wondrous weekend.

Joe Moe was in the house, posing with a pristine copy of the
"Schizoid" mask he created for Don Post's 1983 catalog >

We actually got to watch Bob Short sculpt a new mask, definitely
a highlight of the show. Even Bill Malone beamed approval >

Behind them was the original master plaster on "Tor",
a best-selling DPS mask >

Towards the event's conclusion, three generations of the Post dynasty
assembled on stage to see us off into the night ...

... leaving us to wonder if it was all just a troubled dream.

I mean, such things can't happen in real life ... can they?

Respects to our late friend Gory Glenn who first authored this post
back in 2015 and loved DonCon as much as we all did. If you have any
more images of the event, post them in his memory.
