Title: Universal Classic Monsters 6 film DVD set
Post by: crissrudd4554 on July 10, 2015, 10:46:22 AM
In September, Universal will release a 6 film DVD set. It's pretty much a DVD equivalent to the 6 film BluRay set released a year or so ago for those who couldn't afford the 8 film set. Additionally, WalMart has an exclusive Frankenstein/Bride of Frankenstein DVD Double Feature. I like many of you will likely be passing on both these releases since I got the 30 film set from last year as well as pretty much all previously released DVDs of these films.

Yeah, that great 30 film set pretty much makes all this useless (unless you're broke, of course).

They did a 6 film Blu-ray set? What was the point of that?

From what I heard, they charged more for it than the 8 movie set. Didn't they remove The Creature, of all things?

I could only find 3 box sets (R1, R2 and the coffin box) and the all had 8 films in them. They sold all 8 individually, too. Was there another foreign 6 movie set?

No, I think this was an exclusive to some big chain.

Oh! Like one of those Best Buy sets. I suppose PHANTOM and CREATURE got left out. Still seems pointless.

Nothing worse than an "exclusive" where you get less of something!

Yep infact the six film BluRay set even uses the SAME artwork as this new six film DVD set!!!!! And yes Mike Creature and Phantom were omitted. Very pointless!!

I was at Wal-Mart today and found that Frankenstein/Bride double feature. There weren't any mention of any bonus features on the cover so it looks like a cheap release to me.

The nice folks in that photo would do a much better job than many in the film & music business today, actually.

Well on a lighter note, there may finally be a 'part 2' to the BluRay set!

Good news! Thanks for posting that!

"Began 4k restoration work on "Ghost of Frankenstein", "Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman", "House of Dracula", "House of Frankenstein", "Son of Frankenstein" and "The King of Jazz".  These will be completed in Q4"

What the hell is "Q4"?

4th Quarter is my guess. But it could just as easily be code for an upcoming Alien conquest of Earth for all I know. 8)

And all this time I was looking at my Bingo chart but realized there's no Q in Bingo!

Awesome! I've been thinking about getting the recent 30-Film DVD collection, but I might hold out for this.

And yes, Q4 is the standard abbreviation for fourth quarter, so the restorations should be done anytime from October to December.  As to when they'll be released, who knows. Hopefully we don't have to wait till next Halloween.

Sounds like a Blu-Ray Frankenstein box is on the way ("Frankenstein","Bride" & A&C Meet" are already restored). Can't we all save some money by waiting for the 8k restorations in five years or so?

Haha! Really though, I think Universal will probably re-release these movies every fall of every year, whether it be on DVD or Blu-ray or whatever. You have this 6 film set, and then there's a new Abbott and Costello Meet the Monsters collection coming in September (DVD only).

I must say I wish they'd waited til all the restorations were done before issuing the 30 film set.

Then it will be computer generated 3D and Rumble-Rama.

That would make far too much sense. Remember, it's UNIVERSAL we're talking about here.

I want Monster on Campus and the Creature Walks Among Us on 4K Blu-Ray!!! Why? because i want something I'm fairly sure I will be able to say I am the sole owner of!

monster on Campus seems to be mighty high on people's favorite b movie monsters lists. Right up there with Hideous Sun Demon. Nice he's getting some love at last. Dont miss the cameo of the Psycho House that's in the film!

It has a point. We are not the point though. The point of this particular release is simply to cash in on the Halloween holiday. It is pretty smart of them actually.
