Anybody here besides me going to WonderFest http://www.wonderfest.com/ (http://www.wonderfest.com/) this weekend? For Universal monsters subjects, I'm bringing the Needful Things Frankenstein Bust and the Horizon Mummy.
Havent been in years. Have a good time, take plenty of pictures, and share them in this thread. Im just too broke nowadays to go. 8)
Had a great time at Wonderfest this year--Mark Maddox was there, Frank Dietz was there, Dr. Gangrene was there, Bill Stout was there (a lot of great folks, in other words)--the model contest was amazing (my cousin Tim won a couple silvers and one bronze). I was with Sara Karloff and Victoria Price, as usual, but I found time to take a few pics of displays, etc.

A tribute to the late, great Ray Meyers, whose sculpting for Aurora gave us monster kids our first monster models. Ray died in April.

The one that made me stop and stare several times--the Dustin Hoffman LITTLE BIG MAN makeup prosthetics Dick created:

The only model I bought this year--Ray Santoleri's great mini-bust of "Luna", Carroll Borland in MARK OF THE VAMPIRE:

Also brought home some other things--the new Video Watchdog and an art layout print from the 1925 PHANTOM OF THE OPERA;

I was able to meet with Misses Karloff and Prices as well. Both ladies are very nice and approachable - not stuffy 'celebs' at all. Both were gracious abut signing my copies of biographies of their fathers. Ms. Price wrote an excellent one, Ms. Karloff having written the forward to a definitive work by Stephen Jacobs.
I also picked up an Illusion Projector from Starlighting Projects http://www.starlightingprojects.com/ (http://www.starlightingprojects.com/) for use with my build of the Moebius Frankenstein; I'll post photos when I get 'im done. FYI, all of SP's figure lighting items are virtually foolproof and easy to install.
Mark, Thank you for giving the link for the lighting products--I had never seen these particular ones before and now am thinking what great additions some of these things would be to my dioramas and displays. Excellent stuff!
And--those two books--Victoria's bio of Vincent and Stephen Jacobs' bio of Boris--are both excellent. I hope more fans of those two beloved actors track down their terror-ific biographies!
typh',
I've gotten to the point where I've had to stop in mid-stream because Starlighting Projects came out with some item that I knew would improve the project. Matt Lawrence has priced his products very reasonably, is willing to custom build just about anything you can think of, and - last but by no means least - is a heckuva nice guy.
Yes, the Price and Karloff bios are the last word on both actors. I'm about a fifth of the way through the Karloff book and have seen any number of myths (some propagated by Boris himself) exploded, along with some surprising new material. There are any number of heretofore unseen photos as well; the same goes for Miss Price's book about her Dad. I can't recommend these books highly enough.
I missed Wonderfest for the first time in many years. Hopefully I will make it back next year. The only out-of-town convention I'm attending in 2015 is Horrorhound in Indianapolis. If anyone here plans on going, I will see you there.
