I'm a 60's monster kid and one of my favorite shows from 1966 that aired in Southern California on KHJ channel 9 was Shrimpenstein. He was created by some jelly beans falling into a monster making machine and because of that, that's what he liked to eat. I even had the mail order Shrimpenstein puppet. Man, I wish I still had that.

Dude, you have got to be kidding! I thought that I was the only one who watched that show. I had the puppet too. Here's my heartbreak story. I finally found the puppet again in a store called "The Monster Cellar" (UMA's Monster Joe was the owner). This was during the late eighties/early nineties. A few years later I went through my divorce. In an attempt to make money & travel light, I sold ALL my classic toys (including 'ol Shrimpy). I have not seen another since. As a matter of fact, you're the first person I've met that remembers the show. Are you sure you're not my long lost brother?
Mord, that's so funny because you're the only person I know that has a clue about this show! Obviously you had to live in So Cal to have seen it unless it was syndicated elsewhere, I don't know. And you had the puppet too! I remember that puppet as clearly as if I owned it yesterday. Even as a kid I was impressed with the quality of it. I have no recollection of where it went. I had a monster kid friend that wanted it very badly. Maybe he took it. :o It would be great to find one of those puppets again.

Good luck with that. I think most people that see one today will think it's a cheap, unlicensed "Son of Frankenstein" knock-off puppet. Having had one in my adulthood, I can testify to the incredible quality (especially being a cheap mail-order toy). And, yes, I've lived in So. Cal. since I was seven. Good times.

Which would be a good thing if someone selling it had no idea what it really is. Could probably get one cheap under those circumstances.

If someone took their collection outside of California & sold it, they would have no idea what it is. I wonder if we're the only two UMAers who watched this show. I've been a member for over six years, and this is the first time it's been mentioned.

There was a thread where I brought the show up, and I had a link to a video of it. Somebody mentioned they had the very iron maiden prop that was used on the set. Does anybody remember when Dr. Von Schtick and Shrimpenstein hosted an evening showing of "4d Man" (1959) one evening on KHJ 9?

I don't remember that but I read that the producer of 4D Man Jack H. Harris started a promotional campaign for the film by offering a $1 million reward to anyone who could walk through a wall. Sounds like something William Castle would do. :)

Those are great pix! Where did the Aurora art come from? I'd love a Shrimpenstein kit. I think that even people unfamiliar with the show would want it. It's such a cool retro monster image.

I own this prop. Those are the front doors of THE ADDAMS FAMILY's Iron Maiden #2 attached to the back set wall, also used in the TV reunion movie HALLOWEEN WITH THE ADDAMS FAMILY. It was also used in a film called CHAMBER OF HORRORS (1967). Pretty sure that was the flick, anyway. It's been a while since I've seen it.

I too grew up in Southern California. And I do remember KHJ Channel 9. Ted Myers was still alive back then, and his voice was always heard on the air. I grew up in Glendora CA. I did love that show, in fact I sent away for a Shrimpenstein puppet, but never received it. I was heartbroken.

Glad to have encountered this posting: I well remember the special 4D MAN/Shrimpenstein evening! Always nice to know there's someone else out there who does, too.
LA's own Million$Movie, on KHJ-TV, inaugurated its weeklong showing of 4D MAN with Mon nite hosting by Dr Von Schtick & Shrimpy. During commercial break, the former aped Robert Lansing's matter-penetrating experiment & proceeded to get his arm stuck halfway into a footlong submarine sandwich. And, as the saying goes, havoc ensues.
Re the small-run Shrimpenstein puppet briefly sold locally in the late 60s: it seems to have been made by the late Tony Tierney, one of the hopeful young makeup fans who occasionally merited a foto in very early Famous Monsters, & who went on to do DRACULA VS FRANKENSTEIN & MUMMY VS THE CURSE OF THE JACKALS. It's a beautifully-crafted toy, down to Shrimpy's fun fur vest.
