This thread was the idea of both Gory Glenn and myself. We are long time Hulk fans and thought we would create this thread. A thread by fans, for fans of one of the greatest comic book characters ever created. This thread started in a previous Hulk thread. You can see the thread here.

The first item I would like to post is the Rage Cage Hulk figure from 1978. Still sealed in the package. He's very angry from being in the box for so long. See how he is banging on the front to get out. ;D

Yes! What a great way to kick off the thread Horrorman! I remember these well. And the military finally developed a cardboard / cellophane combination that could contain the Hulk! ;) And good thing we're over 5 years old otherwise we wouldn't be the right age to enjoy this.

lol Yes, it is a special cardboard/cellophane that uses the Hulk's own force against him. However, this raises a question. If the Hulk is the strongest force there is, can he out power his own force? ;D

At one time I had a large collection of Hulk toys from the 70's that would have been worth quite a bit today but like a knucklehead I sold most of it years ago so most of my collection now is from the 90's and later. One item I manged to save from the 70's is this Hulk mirror made in 1978. This particular illustration was used a lot on various Hulk merchandise at the time. I had to take the picture at an angle to avoid my reflection getting in the way.

Thanks, guys. I used to do a ton of supehero kits as well as repaints of factory paint ups for clients.
I still do some superhero stuff but requests from my client base has transitioned over to SCI-FI, Horror and fantasy. I've done a ton of Hulk projects though. I've done red, grey and green Hulks. I've got a client who's sending me a Lou Ferrigno Hulk kit to do next month so the Hulk will always be a requested character for me, I guess.

That's awesome. That is the look that will always be the true Hulk to me. There seems to be many great Hulk items that came out in 1978. Seems like the Sal Buscema version of the Hulk was very marketable.
This thread has taken off in a big way. So, let's keep that going. This is the largest Hulk action figure ever made. It is extremely rare. I believe it was made in Brazil. There are 3 different Hulks that I know of in this scale. I believe all were made by the same company. None were made or produced in the US. I included the Face Off 8 inch Hulk figure and a coke can in the pics for a size reference.

It's really nice. Sometimes on Hulk figures and statues, the hair is not that great, but the overall piece is amazing. Have you seen the Red Hulk variant of the statue your posted? It is amazing. I have never seen it in person, just pics.

Speaking of bad hair. This is a custom War Hulk. It is a great Hulk figure, but it needs different hair.

That's some really great Hulk collectables guys! I'm feeling left out. I may have to go in the garage and crack open some boxes. I had that comic/record set way back when Street Worm. That's cool. By the way did anyone see "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last night? Assuming you get that show in your area. He had the entire cast of The Avengers on and it was hilarious! But the highlight for me was when he showed a short clip of Black Widow trying to calm down the Hulk and it was really cool. This is from the ABC web site.
"Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner from the cast of Marvel's highly anticipated new film, Avengers: Age of Ultron. During the cast's first appearance together, Marvel super fan Jimmy Kimmel will talk with the ensemble about the upcoming film and debut never-before-seen clips as worldwide exclusives from the movie.
During the special episode, Kimmel will also split the cast up in a friendly game of "Avengers Family Feud." Additionally, Jimmy Kimmel Live's "Wall of America" will allow Marvel fans from across the country to have the opportunity to be a part of the show and interact with Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron cast. The episode will also feature musical guest The War on Drugs plus many more surprises."

Yes, I've watched them go up in value. I like them because they are larger than the average figure.
1978 die cut jointed Hulk cardboard cut out. The Face Off Hulk closed mouth figure from the 2 pack is probably the closest to this image. However, I wouldn't mind seeing another figure released with this likeness.

Thanks Horror Man! I have a superhero museum in my basement. I have equal amounts of stuff on Captain America, Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Flash...pretty much all the DC and Marvel characters. My collection is in the thousands of pieces.
I've been over a year working on getting it all displayed and I'm still only half finished. It's taken me years to collect and is my lifelong dream.
I can't wait to be done and have people over to enjoy it with me. Sharing it is half the fun.

This is just amazing stuff StyreneDude. I had a lot of the 70's pieces and I made the big mistake of selling most of it. I had a couple of those large plastic Hulk busts. If I remember correctly they were a bank. I had all the Mego figures. I love that you have one still on the blister card. Very cool. I vividly remember that large Mego figure that looks like he's wearing a karate shirt. I remember even having a metal Hulk dinner tray. Remember this rubber guy? They made a large one that came in a box too but I couldn't find a pic and I had both of them. sigh. This thread is cool as more Hulk fans are coming out of the woodwork! ;D

Wow that's the spitting image Of Ferrigno Hulk! Very well done! I'm always amazed at the talent of UMA members. I was a big fan of the TV show and got to meet Lou at Wondercon just a couple of weeks ago.

I had a very strange experience with Lou...I met him in 2001 and he was really nice, just incredibly gracious. Then I corresponded with him again a few years later and he was like a completely different person.
He was appearing at Monster Bash in Pittsburgh and I was talking with the promoters about loaning my entire collection to the show for a little Hulk museum to honor him. Lou got upset and threatened to cancel if I did it.
I have absolutely no idea why to this day. I thought he would love it. It really bummed me out.

Wow, that's terrible! That would bum me out too. Why would he object to that? If not for the Hulk hardly anyone would even know who he is. Maybe he thought people would be more interested in your awesome collection than him. I'd like to say he took that picture with me because he's so nice but that pic cost me forty bucks!

It's easy to forget sometimes celebrities are just people...they have good and bad days like the rest of us.
This is the Disney store exclusive Hulk Unleashed with a custom paint job. I passed on the original figure. However when I saw this one, I thought it looked fantastic. Although the original figure was sort of accurate in regards to Marc Silvestri's work, I really care for the paint job on the figure. I think part of it is because I am such a fan of the old school, regular green skin and maroon or purple pants look, that other versions don't appeal to me that much.

I seem to recall seeing a really large Hulk figure like this at Walmart, right around the time Ang Lee's "Hulk" came out. Very similar packaging, too. I picked up a few Hulk figures over the years, including She-Hulk (one of my favorite second-tier Marvel characters). Unfortunately, all of that stuff is in storage right now.

Hi Count, I believe the huge Hulk figure I posted came out about 2 years ago. Also, I believe it was only sold from outside the US.

It was so long ago, and since I didn't buy one, I really can't be sure. I do remember that what I saw looked more like the Hulk from the comics, not the movie.
If you haven't seen the Hulk vs Ironman clip from "Avengers: Age of Ultron" check it out. It's amazing. Going to see this later today! :)

Looks pretty intense. However, I am not on board with the look of the Hulk in The Avengers. It's not bad, by any means, just not big on the look. Actually, I am not that big on any of the looks of the Hulk in the movies. However, if I had to pick what I think is the best look, I would probably say the one with Ed Norton in it. I guess I am just old school when it comes to the Hulk. If it is not from artists Kirby, Buscema, Wilson or the tv series Ferrigno Hulk, it is just not as appealing to me.
thm
I still love the Lou Ferrigno Hulk from yesteryear. Did either you or Glenn see the new film? I hear it's ok but not very memorable.
Well I was not a huge fan at all of the Ang Lee Hulk movie I have enjoyed both the Avengers Hulk and the Ed Norton Hulk movie. The Avengers film put personality into him which I did enjoy. I have been a hulk fan for about forty years. So many incarnations and like anything, some good and some bad. Ferrigno will most likely always embody old Green Skin to me though.
Being in a real small town i will have to wait awhile to see the new film.
Oh and for some reason the above pictured Hulk figure reminds of the Superman vs Hulk comic (by artist Steve Rude I believe) Old school for sure and really sharp looking.

I saw it and it was good as I expected but I think I like the first Avengers movie better. I did like the introduction of The Vision played by Paul Bettany. I see great things coming from that character going forward. I'll need to see the movie again to really form a final opinion. It's a very busy movie and will take multiple viewings to truly put it into perspective.
As far as which movie Hulk I like better I have to go with the Marl Ruffalo version. It's the first of the CGI Hulk's to really feel like a living breathing entity for me. The others just didn't have any real personality. Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios has stated that ever since they got Ruffalo the Hulk's popularity has risen dramatically to the point where people are interested in a stand alone Hulk movie again. As far As Lou Ferrigno goes he did as good a job as a person can do but the Hulk is too massive a character for any human to convey him accurately. And even though I loved the TV show the Hulk was far to under powered in it to make me feel truly satisfied. Hell, a hand gun could hurt him in the TV show and his physical strength was greatly under played due to budget restrictions.

Yes, Ruffalo has breathed new life into the character. I loved the Hulk series, but as you stated, his strength was under played. I remember the episode where the hulk was being chased by Magee through a printing shop. The Hulk went to push over 2, like 20 foot tall standing, rolls of paper. He was having difficulty, so he sort of punched them over and they fell. When I think about these things, I usually remember one thing in particular when the Hulk fought Iron Man from the comic in the 80's. The Hulk picked up a full size plane and swung it at Iron Man like a bat. Now that is something that could have never been pulled off in the show.

I love the sculpt for the head on the Face off Hulk. To me that's the classic 70's Hulk. And I agree a grey version of the Diney Classic Hulk would be awesome. But I have always been partial to grey Hulks. Maybe with the exception of the Mr. Fix-It era grey. Not sure how you other fans think about Mr. Fix-It but I disliked it other than a few issues.

First Appearance: The Incredible Hulk #1
Also Known As: Joe Fixit
Identity Basis: This incarnation represents the personality that can do all the not so nice things that Bruce was to unsure of to do himself. Tricky, manipulative, shows little thought of others make up some of his traits.
Strength: This incarnation can lift approximately 75 tons. This incarnation does possess the "madder he gets, the stronger he gets" ability but at a much slower rate since this incarnation has some level of intelligence and reasoning and would not "lose control" as easy as the Savage Hulk incarnation.
Height: 6 feet 6 inches
Weight: 900 lbs
Eyes: Gray
Hair: Black
Intelligence: Normal
Transformation: Initially, Bruce would transform into the Grey Hulk at night and then back at dawn. This was subconscious due to the fact that Bruce was ashamed of the dark, not very nice thoughts the Grey Hulk represented and would only let him out at night, in the dark, where he wouldn't be seen. Later, the change was due to will power.
Comments/Information: There came a point where Bruce, the Savage Hulk, and Grey Hulk were all fighting desperately for control. Doc Samson tried to help his friend by looking into his mind and helping Bruce confront his emotions over his mother's death by his father. In his mind, Bruce's mother convinced the three incarnations to merge together to cure him but in reality a new incarnation was formed that was the idealized version of Bruce. Although this new incarnation, called the Professor, thought itself the real Bruce and that he was cured, Doc Samson knew that this was just a temporary fix and he tried to help him with more therapy.
Now here's a Hulk figure that really brings the world of super heroes and monsters together. The Zombie Hulk from the Marvel Zombies comics.

I agree, it would be a great show even without the zombies. There is betrayal, love, hate, back stabbing, twists and turns. Incredible stories about human will and survival. The apocalypse could have happened from any natural or unatural disaster. Of course, the zombies create an extreme level of intensity. However, more than half the time, it seems people are the problem.

I never said I didn't like it. I simply have no interest in it one way or the other. I've never seen a single episode of Game of Thrones either, and would you believe I've never played a single video game? Most people can't even fathom that one.
Come to think of it...I've never sent a text message. I'm not even sure how to do it.

I think that what it boils down to is that many of us here were zombie fans long before the "craze". So most of us here are thinking what took you so long? We've known that zombies are cool long before it was fashionable. Thank you George A. Romero!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Ever since I saw Dawn of the Dead back around 1985, I have wanted and on going zombie series. I thought why does this have to end. When I first saw Walking Dead, I liked it because of the similarities to Dawn of the Dead. Ironically enough, a while back, I said if it weren't for Dawn of the Dead, there would be no Walking Dead. Later on, I saw an interview with Robert Kirkman and he said if it weren't for Dawn of the Dead, there would be no Walking Dead. It seems like most of the world is on board with Walking dead. Just like you said, where has everyone been. I have been enjoying this genre since the mid 80's.

I watched one episode of GoT to see what all the excitement was about. It just came off as silly & nerdy. It's more for those people into costume play. As for texting, I only do it when I need to get a message out & can't really talk (like at work). I work in a high school and you would not believe how important texting is to kids. They'll be sitting right next to each other and would rather text back & forth than talk. Can you imagine how many arthritic thumbs they'll have to deal with in the future. It will require a separate branch of medicine.
Different strokes for different folks. Game of Thrones is the only show I like as much as Walking Dead. That show has long story arcs that take more time than watching a couple of episodes. It's similar to Walking Dead in the sense that they have no problem killing off main characters that you've grown to love and that leads to a lot of "Oh my God!" moments. And no, I don't cosplay. ;)
Sorry, Glenn, I really shouldn't generalize. You're right, I've only seen one episode (out of context). Though I must admit, some of those GoT girls are very hot.

I love all the serialized shows, but it's nearly impossible to just watch a random episode. It's like when the X-Files got into that good alien/bad alien subplot. I kept wishing for those great, "stand alone" episodes to come back.

Originally there was no difference. They started using green after Hulk #1 because their printer couldn't get the gray to come out the same shade consistently. Then years later when they started doing the multiple personality thing with Banner they made the Gray Hulk one of his incarnations.

I didn't even know this figure existed until last year. No packaging or accessories came with it and the thing will only stand in this one position. However, it was super cheap. I think this would make a nice 12 inch figure.

Yes, he's not very well balanced for standing. Good thing he has humongous feet too or he wouldn't be able to stand at all.

The newest addition to my Hulk collection. A custom painted Hulk. He looks huge, but he's just a little guy. ;D The paint job makes him look like he is going to jump right off the pages of the comics. This Hulk sort of resembles the Hulk on one of my favorite covers, issue 171. I included a pic for reference.

Thanks Glenn. Since the figure is so small, it is must have been tough to get everything to look in proportion. Also, on the left side of the figure itself, running down the chest and ribs, there is a seam. It's just how the figure was made. The shirt hides the seam.

Here's a poster that I mail ordered nearly 50 years ago from Marvel. It has an interesting story. At some point when I was young I traded this poster to another kid for some comics and I figured that would be the last I'd see of it. About a decade later a friend of mine came over and said he had a present for me that he picked up at a local comic shop. When I unrolled it I was shocked, not only was this the same poster I had as a kid it was the actual copy that I originally purchased. I recognized it right away. I had this habit of putting Scotch tape where I stuck the thumb tacks to help prevent it from tearing. The tape placement was exactly the same. I knew it was mine. We were both blown away. It looks better in the picture as it looks more yellowed in person. I have a few vintage Hulk posters still some of which are from the Hulk TV show.

Nice custom thm. I really like that real needles were used for his claws. Nice paint up too. Pairing him with the Hulk is a pretty natural thing to do since those characters have a had few run ins with each other. In an interview with Wolverine co-creator Len Wein and Stan Lee, Len said he originally created Wolverine as a foe for the Hulk. Stan Lee laughed and basically said he didn't do a very good job as the Hulk would cream Wolverine in a knock down, drag out fight. :)

Back in the early 80's, they did a What if Wolverine had killed the Hulk issue. If I remember correctly, Wolverine killed the Hulk by stabbing him repeatably in the throat with the claws. Also, ya, I don't believe on any day, that Wolverine could beat the Hulk. I don't care how much super healing ability he has. Actually, I am not that big of a Wolverine fan, but I really liked this particular custom figure. ;D

Super nice tchm! Great sculpt on this figure. I have the stock version of this figure. While I'm on the fence about the Avengers Hulk look when it comes to figures I think he's hands down the best version movie wise.
The Savage Hulk figure is one of my favorites. He weighs a ton. Do you have a custom of this one?

Thank you Glenn. Yes, I am not big on the Avengers Hulk look. however, this figure is magnificent. The artist that repainted this is the same artist that did the one in the opening of this thread. Also, I have really like the Savage Hulk figure as well. Its a great figure. I do not have a custom version of it.

I used to be a huge Hulk collector growing up. But by about 1990, they kept trying to change the character and make him more hip. His body kept getting bigger and his head kept getting smaller. Eventually, I lost interest in that "modern" Hulk. I still, however, love the retro versions of the character, and will occasionally pick up some of that style merchandise. It is hard to imagine nowadays (where there are aisles or whole sections of the store devoted to Marvel characters), but in the late 70's and early 80's, while Hulk paraphernalia wasn't exactly scarce, it wasn't very plentiful either. Most of what I have in my collection is left over from those golden years. Here are some of my non-figure items.
First up is what I believe is the very first Hulk Happy Meal (my friend at the comic shop keeps correcting me- "it's only a true Happy Meal if it comes from McDonald's!"). Actually, it was put out by Hardee's in 1983 and contains a cool 3-D comic which you can view through the filters in the box.
Speaking of fast food premiums, this Hulk glass came from Dunkin' Donuts (and was originally filled with Munchkins!)
Next up is the Hulk Smash-up Action Game. I remember reading in a parenting magazine at the time that this item earned their high recommendation. I found this somewhat ironic, since the point of the game is to get angry and then break things!
Who doesn't remember View-Master growing up? They had a whole lineup of Marvel characters, not to mention a Godzilla set that used the Marvel Comic artwork. I just wish that they had him fighting the Abomination or the Leader.
While I am not a super-huge fan of the Marvel Super Hero cartoon from the 1960's, I absolutely love the packaging artwork for this VHS release.
Finally, here is a retro mini-lunchbox showing the Jack Kirby-esque looking version of the Hulk.

Wow! great collection. I sort of share your opinion on the Hulk. My favorite version will always be from the mid 70's to the mid 80's. The Sal Buscema era and around that time. I do like some of the extreme more modern Hulk images. However, Sal Buscemea and Jack Kirby will always be the king of Hulk art in my opinion.
Here is a custom Hulk figure based on the late 70's early 80's version.

While I have several Hulk figures, I am particularly proud of this customization. When I first saw the pre-release pictures of this figure, The Savage Hulk from 1996, it looked like THE definitive representation of the character (at least, up until that point). But when I saw what the figure actually looked like in the store, I realized that something went very, VERY wrong. The head looked like it got caught in a trash compactor, the expression on the face is just bizarre, he has penciled in eyebrows (like a Hollywood starlet of the 1930's) and they topped him off with a Moe Howard toupee! Not to mention they gave him an off green color and the physique of a super-deformed character. It was terrible! However, I have to admit I have very mixed feelings about these sub-par representations. On the one hand, it is frustrating and angering that many figure makers don't spend the little bit extra time and attention to detail that so many of these characters deserve. They are so close to a creating a really outstanding and memorable figure, but they ruin with a poor paint scheme, or costume choice, or lack of detailing (Hasbro is notorious for this). On the other hand, I really like notion of finding these "diamonds in the rough" and customizing them into the figures they should have been; it's both a challenge and a hobby. Plus, many of these figures you can often get dirt cheap, just because they are butt-ugly.
For this figure, I "inflated" his head back to a more proportionate width; I re-did his hair with Sculpy and repainted him a hunter green. I also built up his eyebrows. While the figure still looks a bit squat and cartoonish, I feel it is a marked improvement from straight out of the package, and much closer to the "Classic" Hulk visage I really like.

Yes, big improvement. Too bad it was a nicer figure to start with. I wish we had more Hulk figures based on his look in the 60's 70's and 80's comic books.
This is the same Hulk figure I posted in my last Hulk post. However, it had additional sculpting done and a new professional paint job. It looks more realistic now. Also, I have a new camera and I thought the Hulk would be a good subject to test it out. A couple of the backgrounds were digitally painted in.

This is the second custom Frankenstein Hulk figure in my collection. The stitches are a nice touch. I thought about having a classic Frankenstein jacket and pants made for the figure. I think it would make a great huge looking Frankenstein figure. The stitches could show through the jacket or a shirt.

Hulk Vs Wolverine Maquette from Sideshow Collectibles.
This thing is a beast, it's easily the heaviest statue I own. While it's 1:5 scale in size it's actually bigger in size than most of my 1:4 scale Premium format figures.
I actually prefer the sculpt on this piece over the other Sideshow Hulk statues. I hate the modern looking Hulk sculpts and Kirby's "ape" looking Hulk is overrated to me.
Give me the savage Hulk anyday.
