Hope that everyone is having a wonderful Easter and/or Passover ..  ;D

For some reason I recall that "The Wizard of Oz" was usually shown around Easter but the quick research that I just attempted is proving me incorrect.

I know that ABC in New York would show "The Ten Commandments" every Easter Sunday evening.

This is an interesting article .. http://observationdeck.io9.com/how-the-ten-commandments-is-a-tv-tradition-1695545326 (http://observationdeck.io9.com/how-the-ten-commandments-is-a-tv-tradition-1695545326)

My family was never into "Easter Specials" but I would watch "Easter Parade" if it was on and there was nothing else of nterest.

The answer is simple- so as not to offend non-Christians.

Ages ago, it was sometimes run around Thanksgiving/Christmas.

Would "Donnie Darko" count as an Easter film?

How about "Night of the Lepus"?

Before there were video tapes, The Wizard of Oz would be shown on TV around Thanksgiving.  It and seeing Santa at the end of the Macy's Parade were what heralded the beginning of the Christmas season.

Now the Christmas commercials start showing up before Halloween.  It doesn't seem right to me.

Never watched kids Easter specials.  Rabbits distributing chocolate eggs never made sense.  We raised rabbits and I watched them being born - no eggs involved.

And religious movies always seemed silly to me.  How can a fan of horror movies find any movie silly?  No one is expected to take horror movies seriously.  Not the case with religious movies.

I always looked forward to Easter and Christmas because there were candy and presents aplenty and it meant time out of school.  I hated school.

Hard to believe that we used to watch the Ten Commandments in 4:3 'pan&scan' on TV when it should have been in 2.20:1 - 70mm (The things we must have missed on the screen.)

Or Fatal Attraction for it's wonderful use of bunnies?

because every little thing offends people.

its like iff you don't like it, then change the channel...don't get your panties in a bunch over it.

Funny how less than 10% of the American population has so much control.

Here in our sleepy small Canadian town there was hardly anything to with easter besides small displays of chocolate at the grocery stores.  It was a big change over last year.  My family was wondering if the holiday was diminishing and even slowly vanishing.  A shame really.

I have not seen Irontail for many years.  I miss him.  My kids have not even seen that one.  Though the other Rankin and Bass have been shown lots in our household.

it has seemed to be a low priority in america all though the religious aspect was higher this year ( and thats fine with me ) but even at walt disney world where they seem to cash in with the holiday displays and parades etc they dont do anything for Easter no decorating no parades. but i realized not a bunny to be seen on tv.
