As much as I liked the film, I'm just not into Mego-style figures enough to get this one. Now, a 12-inch version? That would be practically twisting my arm!

I'm getting one for sure. I also like Mr. Boogie. Maybe a little more than Night Flier. Which is odd....because I like the Night Flier film more. But these are two characters that need to be acknowledged in my collection. So big thanks for DD making it happen.

I'm barely familiar with this film.  I only seen clips, but was never that interested in the film as I'm not a big fan of "modern" horror.  However, I must say this figure is too cool and obscure that I could not pass it up.  The sculpt is pretty dead on, I love the hair & hands and the clothing is excellent.  Just placed my order.

Martin, you've done it again.  Kudos.

It's a really good film (not too modern) and a wonderful figure. Only Martin & DD could pull this off. Kudos, my friend.

....dont wait too long. A little birdie told me they're about halfway sold out already. In less than 24 hours. He'll fly away soon no doubt. Pun painfully intended. >:D

I think I am in the mood for a double feature of blu ray horror tonight. Going modern. Night Flier and Sinister. ;) ;D

I'd never heard of this film before the figure was announced. One day, when I finally see it, I will probably kick myself for not buying this figure. But for now, bring on the next Hammer figure!

Yes, a 12" figure of The Gorgon or the Creature from Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell would do just fine!

All coming in wave 2 guys as you well know lol. I think Wave 4 have HAMMER may be all two packs, but not sure yet. That way I can release a major character with a lesser know one. Just thinking :)

Mummy
Curse of Werewolf

Unofficial: (wave 2)
Dr Frankenstein
Dr Van Helsing

Wave 2 (wave 3?)
Brides of Frankenstein

I don't think the Peter Cushing figures constitute an official wave. There were only two, and the card art was different. I think of them as a spinoff of Wave 1.

Martin is always planning ahead. That's a good sign. It means he's gonna be around helping us monster lovers out for awhile. He could stay busy for the remainder of his natural days simply fulfiling the wish lists in the various threads scattered about the forum. Not to mention figures HE actually wants that we havent thought of yet. Who would've ever even thought about making a John Rider Hitcher figure? Thats about as obscure as you can get. Now bring on the Wasp Woman, lol.

I hope that doesn't mean pairing a previously released character with a supporting one. There are so many other ones that have yet to be made. I would love to see two vampire girls packaged together. Who knows what they'll get up to in such tight confines.
Title: Re: Dwight Renfield - The Night Flier Megostyle Custom

Well, there probably wouldnt be a whole lot of people who would be willing to buy a Dr. John Watson by himself. But if paired with Sherlock Holmes, with a single Hammer Hounds of Baskervilles display card: both figures could get made. Also, collectors would more or less be supporting the lesser character. Like Watson. I would probably buy that particular two pack.

I also think some might be tempted to buy Marion Crane if she came with Norman as mother. But doubt she would sell well enough to warrant an independent release.

So, if handled correctly, it could be a neat little bit of marketing. Plus, if we don't particularly like it for monetary, space, uniformity, or any other reason---Martin seems to listen fairly closely to his customer base. But you never know how something will go til you try it. I am cautiously optimistic. Besides...Twins of Evil clamors for at least one two pack: they're twins after all, lol. ;) ;D

Now while a lot will be totally new, I still feel certain characters need to be represented in two pack form. These are just ideas but maybe Lee and Cushing from Satanic Rites of Dracula, Lee and Munro from AD1972, Cushing and Ka from Golden Vampires, Cushing and Denberg from Created Woman to name but a few. I have just taken on a wonderfully talented freelance painter to help me out so his take on a lot of the characters would make them different enough, plus all would be new sculpts.
Other ideas I have in mind are Donlevy and Wordsworth from Quatermass Experiment, Bates and Beswick from Dr. Jeckyl and Sister Hyde. Two versions of Shelley from DPOD, Cushing and Damien Jones from Twins of Evil, but would have to do the Twins as well I guess. These are just a few, but nothing concrete until I sit down and think it out. I am really excited on the two packs. I may even release the main characters in the set seperate for those who just want to collect the main figure

All great ideas, Martin. I just hope there are enough people willing to fork out $160 a pop for these. I know us Hammer purists would, but 60 pieces might be a tough sell. Good luck either way. I'm just glad they're all new sculpts. I'm also excited about your new freelance paint guy. This can open new doors for DD (and untie your hands a bit...you need a break from the paint fumes, my friend).

Martin-- it's your company, so do what you want. Far be it from me to tell you your business. But after doing this for close to 17 years, I can tell you it's near impossible to make female custom figures look good in this scale.

Superheroes, sure. Their costumes are so hyperstylized, one can get away with it. But realistic looking figures of movie characters? Devilishly hard... They can look great in 12" scale. But I have yet to see a truly good 8"female custom of a monster character.

Just my two cents. Now go and prove me wrong.

Matt

Mord, I will probably sell the double packs $5 or $10 cheaper as only one card is needed, although the clams are dearer. If I released the figures sperate, most would sell I think, so maybe I will actually be saving folks money. Only one way to find out I guess :)
Matt, lets see what I can do. It may work. Not sure if I can root real hair on them which would help I think but we will see. :) Lets hope it does work as would open up a new world for me.

I'm skeptical about 8" female figures. Why not include one female in a set to see how it goes. Then if she turns out well, go forward with an all-female set. I could see the Reptile or Gorgon working. But I'm afraid a more human character would look like a dime store fashion doll. The rooted hair is a big problem. Glued-on hair will look funky. I don't know how you will achieve rooted hair on a resin head, especially without making the head very fragile. Time to buy a rotocasting machine!

OK, Reptile was a female character with long hair. Sculpted hair saved the day. Golden Vampire was a long haired male. Sculpted hair saved the day. Who is really rooting for rooted hair anyway? ;)

Female characters can be done without rooted hair.  :o Just sculpt it. A creative sculptor can make it work on a mego body. Because they've been sculpting female characters for years in the garage kit hobby. None of its real, and it all looks fine.

DC direct did an absolutely stunning Wonder Woman pf. Pleather chest garment, polyester/silk cape, cotton covered bikini bottom....and sculpted hair.  ;D ;D ;D

I think Tonner, Monster High, Baby Dolls, and Barbies are the only rooted hair figures I can think of off the top of my head.  As awesome as Megos were: their Thor with rooted hair was atrocious. As was beauty parlor Conan the Barbarian. So---forget rooted hair. Does the 1/6 Reptile or Golden Vampire look bad to anyone? Not to me.  Heck, Hot Toys's Ripley has sculpted hair....and it looks fine. Sideshow's recent Wonderwoman has resin hair except for a few rubberized strands that are flexible, which are glued into the sculpted hair. ;)

Anton-- I wasn't being skeptical about 8" female figures looking good because of the rooted hair issue... It's just that they usually look weird in this scale. I don't know how else to put it.

As far as Resin sculptors, I've only seen one sculptor do 8" female figure justice: Staffan Linder with his gorgeous Isabelle Adjani figure.

You're right. But the likeness is only part of it... existing female Mego-style bodies are terrible and out of scale... we need someone to design the type S version of the female form. I could be wrong, but I don't think it exists yet.

With this being done by ZICA, it certainly won't be long before the bodies are offered sans the 'Yvonne" head. She also comes with **ahem** inter changing **uhm** boobies. ::)

Now, imagine a head done with quality like this resin model,  in proper scale, on this body with a black robe and a resin devil mask. Instant win.

I hate rooted hair. It reminds me of "My Little Pony". There. I said it. My name is Anton Phibes, and I hated rooted doll hair, lol.

So, if the sculptor chosen for the inevitable female figures is as good as this fella who sculpted Barbara (his name is...Price 8), I believe) or the Nosferatu victim, I am in.

Zica does the type s bandless bodies (male versions). They have got this down to a science, and Martin was smart moving to these bodies. Vast improvement over the CTVT rubber banded bodies. Zica has made this body available in brown and even glow in the dark now. With a buy in "bulk and save" option/ tagline.

Once they offer up the female body, without that Yvonne head, and produce enough to add their tagline of "buy in bulk and save"....I can see female monsters headed our way. Who knows....maybe they are getting things ready in preparation for such. ??? I know Martin's 2 pack idea included a smattering of female characters in the midst. So he's up to something for sure, lol. ;D. Now if he could only find a way to conquer the problems associated with a Bernie Casey Gargoyle and IT The Terror From Beyond Space. :-\

Actually, Vampira's breasts weren't that big. They just looked a lot bigger than they were because of her EXTREMELY tiny waist. She practiced corseting, which made her waist look waspish.

Anton, I agree with you about rooted hair being problematic in the Mego scale. Sculpted hair is probably the only good alternative, but we'll see.

That Zica "Yvonne" body is killer! I can see the Hammer Hotties DD parade in the works. The middle size chest section would probably work best for most of them. The only Hammer Hottie I can think of with really huge bazoombas is Yvonne Romain, and I doubt if DD would do her unless in a 2-pack with Leon's daddy. Funny that Yvonne as shown would be comparable to Yvonne Romain's figure. Anyway, Ingrid, Yutte, Raquel, and the rest would probably be best presented with the middle sized chest section lest they look too overblown and cartoonish. The middle boobies appear to be a C to small D cup size and with the right cleavage bearing dress or gown would look quite comely and accurate. The Zica BIG'UNS is like a DD to E cup and unless you're doing Dianne Thorne or the equivalent it would be glandular overkill. Thanks for posting that Zica body. That gives us some real hope that DD Hotties will be doable.

Ouchy! Glad I scored these when they first came out. I couldn't touch these prices. If I remember correctly the price went from $75 to $80 on that Curse Of The Werewolf figure as it was the last in the first Hammer series. Tremendous price jumps in the after-market.

Martin really needs to consider making More Christopher Lee Draculas. The demand is clearly there. New head sculpts in variety and from some of the other films would keep the integrity of the original intact.

Maybe AD 72 or Scars of Dracula. Not sure if 12 inch or Mego

The fine differences between a "Prince of Darkness" & "Scars" Dracula could only be done justice in a 12" format, imo. The "AD 72" Dracula would be great as a Mego 2pak with the older Van Helsing. That's just my opinion, Martin has commandeered his ship very well on his own.

Agreed. Scars in 1/6 would rock. A 2 pack with the 72 AD Lee and the elder  Van Helsing with Wild Hair (my favorite since thats the age he was when I first saw him in later vehicles) would be phenomenal also. It would take the sting out of missing both versions of Lee for those of us who were broke when those were released, lol.

I would be happy with any 1/6th scale Chris Lee Dracula that I could afford. I'm just glad I got the Mego Style stuff when it came out.

A Mego Style Dracula AD 1972 2-pack with Drac and Jessica Van Helsing (Stephanie Beachum) at some point would also be great.

I bid $325 on it. I knew I'd lose, but I couldn't go higher.

If you people missed Dwight Renfield, and like the film.....you're going to regret it. Its a great figure!!!!!. I tweaked mine just a tad. Not much. I added some hair to his hands like he has in the film, and blood splattered his cuffs a bit....since this film is drenched in gallons of "raspberry jam" as Vincent Price used to say. But, tweaks or no----this figure is magnificent as he stands. This is one of the few pieces of memorabilia made for this flick. Dont miss out.
