Title: THE RETURNED - A Hit or a Miss?
Post by: Monsters For Sale on March 10, 2015, 01:06:10 AM
Just watched the premiere episode of The Returned.

I thought the first episode was OK.  It gave away very little about what direction the series will be taking.

Since it will be following Bates Motel, I figure it will get a pretty good initial audience.  Acting was good across the board, cinematography was very nice.  I am planning on watching at least the next two episodes.

Any one have any thoughts about this new TV offering?  (Thoughts that don't give away anything you may know about future episodes.)

Really?

No thoughts at all about a show where the dead return but don't eat the living?

What I saw was good. Unfortunately I had a long day and narcolepsy hit me about half way through. Fell asleep with a beer in my hand. Not good.  :-[ I'll watch at least a couple more episodes.

I slept through "Apocalypse Now" in a theater.  I was working 2 full time jobs and I got a chance to see a major movie that I had missed in it's first run - at a little art house theater.

The last thing I remember was Martin Sheen on a boat gliding down a river.   The I woke up with people all around me, exiting the theater.  Missed the whole damn thing!

Never have seen the movie to this day.

The Returned didn't connect with me, but I'll give it another couple of episodes to see if it picks up.

The first episode was very leisurely, divulging very little.  I like that.  I am a fan of older movies that don't necessarily start with a bang, but take their time to develop.

I thought the acting was very good.  It is nice that I do not know any of the actors from other roles.  It makes it so much easier to take them at face value as the characters they are portraying.

I will definitely stick around for another couple episodes.

I liked the first episode. I think the premise is really intriguing---kind of has Twilight Zone vibe to it. As much as I like the premise though, I do wonder how they'll be able to stretch the show out in the long term. I would think after a while things would normalize and you'd be like "Oh yeah so and so is back from the dead, what else is new?" But I could be wrong and they'll keep it fresh. So I'll watch for now.

This show has given very little away about what it is destined to become.

The "returned" seem disconnected.  At first, I thought everyone would start returning - or maybe at least everyone that died on the school bus.  But it looks like only one girl from the bus has returned - and that was 4 years after she died.  Another of the returned was an older guy who died 6 years ago.  A third presumably returned is a mysterious younger boy who does not speak and does not appear related to the other three.

What, if anything, do these three have in common?  If this has been hinted at, I've missed it.

The girl's family seem oddly accepting of the fact she is back after burying her 4 years earlier.  No one has tried to make any money by alerting the media, or signing any book/movie deals.  Are these people Americans?  Everyone speaks English.  Maybe Canadians would be more stoic and less avaricious.

Bizarre show.

I finally watched both episodes, pretty much liked them. I think I like HBO's "The Leftovers" a little more (similar theme). This series has a big international following. It's a French show (I believe) that has the critics buzzing. I'm definitely sticking around to see where it goes. I just hope it doesn't get cancelled without any kind of resolution.

The 3rd show in the series contained a number of new reveals and turned the show in a very dark direction.

You won't get any spoilers from me, but I am really hooked into this show now.  I'm so glad I decided to give it a chance.

Even better that it follows "Bates Motel"; that gives me two solid hours of Monday night TV to look forward to.

As long as the show doesn't turn into just another Zombie show or some nutty end-of-days religious crap, I think this show can be a pretty solid "Hit".

I watch it, but only because it follows "Bates' Motel". I'm really just using it for background noise. I think HBO's "The Leftovers" is a slightly better show of that type.
