Lol---It aint mine. I wouldn't ask (nor pay) that much for ol' Gilly.

I like the "patina" of rat chews on the side of the card.

Honestly---what does a carded male Creechie even sell for---for real? Because on ebay he's literally worth his weight in gold it seems.

Well THIS exact one sold for $6000 1 month ago. The seller is attempting to turn a quick profit. Remains to be seen if it goes for it.

Carded AHI Creatures are one of the most coveted and valuable monster figures of the 70's.  Package condition dictates a lot of the value.  This one has some wear, but as a general rule 8-12 grand is not out of the question for a nice carded example.

I sold a carded "female" Creature for $7,500 cash plus $500 trade a few years ago.

I guess the only way I'm ever getting a male, or female AHI Creature is one that is loose, zero paint and missing a leg (at least).

I have over 12 grand into my carded male, but the package is in amazingly good condition.  It is my grail monster toy, since 1975 when I got one from Kresge.  Wish I still had my childhood toy.

I still have my childhood male creature (yay me). My carded one is really an expensive tribute to my loose, played-with, childhood one.

I "only" have $2,000 trade and $500 cash into my carded male creetch, but I've had him for 21 years.

As it should be. I know rich guys have childhood memories but it's only a piece of fricken plastic on a card. If I had that kind of cash I'd re-do my house or put it in an IRA for the future. Get real. The Most I have ever paid for a piece in my collection was $419 shipped for a Pat Magee Studios Possessed Peggy full sized prop. Worth it. Thousands for an old action/monster figure regardless of how scarce.

These carded Creatures have never been more popular , and I for one can't blame him for trying to turn a quick profit.

Agreed, Plus---it aint a stupid piece of plastic by any means. I paid $500 for a loose one back when I had money to spend on such things, lol. ahhhhh---the good old days. .

I was stunned at the asking price.....thats why I started the thread. But if that's what the market will uphold: the so be it. The figure itself is certainly in great shape. But I would have to sell a kidney to afford it. :'(

My concern on such an expensive figure whether your buying or selling Is shipping him, no matter how well you wrap him he's still moving around inside that bubble especially the way the boxes get thrown around, if I ever was lucky enough to come into money I would hope to pick one up in person.

If I had the money to drop 6 grand for a toy you better believe I would pony up to go get it in person. Mail carriers have a bad habit of crossing too many Kaiju battles in progress to sweat out the wait.

I drove to pick up my carded creature in person.  I would not have risked mailing it.

Lester, you may think it's stupid to pay so much for a toy, but it's another thing to publicly bash members who have done so.  The seller of this item is a friend of mine, and a member of this group.  The price is not out of line, and if I didn't have one I would be a prospective buyer.  I'm not sure where your animosity toward this whole subject comes from, but I'm asking you politely to refrain from making these kinds of posts here on this forum.

I noticed that some toys attracted a bidder that acted as an agent for Japanese buyers who seemed to be very well heeled and very enthusiastic about monster items - especially any really rare Creature items.  They were a big factor in driving up museum-quality Creature collectibles.

Anything is worth what you are willing to pay.  Don't matter what anyone else thinks.

If you really believe that (I do), then it doesn't matter what they say, either.

I mentioned this auction to several people at work, a few who are collectors themselves of various things. Every one of them had the same reaction as me and THEN some.
I have just always had an issue with people paying IMO ridiculous prices on things, especially things like this. The same goes for people that have "grail" items and refused to sell them even when financially strapped.
Example,a few years ago I had a friend at work that ended up getting divorced. Instead of splitting the price of the Townhouse he let his ex have all the proceeds so she wouldn't go after his Hot Wheels collection worth conservatively $50,000.  She bought a mobile home. He had none and lived in the basement of a friends house. He had a beater car. He also had a MIB 60's KING KONG playset , A complete MIB Batman Utility belt. as well as several other upper end items. He refused to sell any of them and was bumming $ from me for gas $. THAT is just plain stupid. Get real and be sensible.

You all know how I feel now so I'll be civil and keep my mouth shut. But the next time some "grail" toy is seen commanding huge $$ just know I will be shaking my head and laughing. Hope whoever gets it really thinks it was worth all they went through to get it. SSHHHH. This is Lester being quiet now. :)

Just like all the thousands, millions of people who would be laughing at you for spending $10, $20 on some stupid monster toy. (Can you imagine throwing away good money on something like that?) Well, to each his own. It's not my money!

The most I've paid for a collectible is in the $500 range. And, believe me, most of the world's population would think me an idiot for paying that much for "a bunch of toy monster rings" or "an old monster magazine (FM #1)". But I'm extremely glad I got those treasured items for those sums of money. They bring me much more joy than the money would.

I believe people should buy what they want for however much they want to spend on it. It's none of my business what other folks buy with their money.

Nope. Lottsa people I know are like this. I had a friend back in the day who had a good job as a chemist for a well known hair care co.
He would come over with a 6'er of Pabst on Saturday night saying he couldn't afford the GOOD stuff. A year later he laid down 30 G's on his town house. It's called adult sensibility when finances are involved.

Almost 10 years ago my mom passed away leaving me and my siblings with substantial $. I did blow several grand on DVD sets , high end beer, a dozen high quality masks and full sized props..I told my wife it was a one shot I would never be able to do again ( I bought her a ring to shut her up ) then the adult kicked in. There was a guy a mile away with my GRAIL car. a 72 El Camino purple on black, a giant Hot Wheels. It was worth 20K and he was asking 14K. I looked and looked and looked and I passed. I put 7K down on a new Toyota 4x4. A few months later I refinanced my house, paid off my truck and put the top of the line siding on my house. No fun vehicle I have wanted since a kid or $$$$ monster figures. Spend responsibly. If I had gone crazy I would have woken up with my wife stabbing my eye with a Pop-Top witch.

>I had a friend at work that ended up getting divorced. He refused to sell any of them and was bumming $ from me for gas $.<

Lester, that is a form of madness. And your friend is far - very far - from the only example of that madness that I've heard of.

>Spend responsibly.<

Wisdom hard to beat.

Well this conversation has gotten waaaay far away from a guy being able to sell something for what he thinks it's worth without somebody telling him he's wrong.  Think I'll go join a conversation where people like stuff.

And if you could afford to eat at a 4 star restaurant every night, you'd stay home and eat mac and cheese.
[/quote I went to the world famous Spago's for my girlfriend's company Christmas party, and I would have so much preferred some good, thick mac n' cheese.

Mike-

It's grand to like stuff.

When an obsessive love of stuff screws up relationships with people, the train is off the rails.

Ambition is like a frog sitting on a Venus Flytrap. The flytrap can bite and bite, but it won't bother the frog because it only has little tiny plant teeth. But some other stuff could happen and it could be like ambition.

This discussion had gone from that Micro case, to the Macro topic. You were part of that transit. There've been some good posts, on both sides of the debate. I think that makes for a mature board, when it goes beyond -

"See what I bought!"

"That's neat!"

"Ditto!"

>( deep thoughts by Jack Handy)<

Cute as snark, Frank73. But adds nothing beyond that.

Best,

I'd rather have that than have people calling other people idiots when they disagree with you.
