I've been resisting the switch over because I'm tired of buying everything on a new format every 5 years.......but the content on blu-ray (commentaries, documentaries, etc) is just so far superior to what you get on DVD that I'm going to be forced to take the damn plunge.

Good thing with a Bluray player is you don't have to rebuy everything, only what you want to! I actually just watched my MGM Midnite Movie of Countess Dracula, which is anamorphic so you have to adjust setting to get the bars off the side of the picture and I think the transfer is still great looking....no need to upgrade to Bluray unless you just have money burning a hole in your pocket and no other title you want.
I'd heard something about the previous DVD release being a cut version of the film. Is this true? Either way, is there any confirmation that the Blu-Ray is an uncut, more complete version of it? It's one I haven't seen yet, and I'd like to make sure I get the whole thing when I finally do.
How can there be so much love for this, when it doesn't have a super awesome dude like Keannu Reeves in it?
Never mind, I just answered my own question.

Looks like the runtime was originally 100 minutes, the dvd specs are 1hr 40min and the Bluray is listed as 1 hr 38 min. I'd bet all versions are the same even with the Bluray's runtime listed as 2 minutes shorter.

You don't have to re-buy everything. My dvds play beautifully on the Blu-ray player. I only buy a Blu-ray version when the improvements are overwhelming.
I haven't taken the blue-ray plunge yet. Heck, I've got a combination dvd/vcr player! And I still occasionally watch videocassettes. Back on topic: This is a very good version of Stoker's classic tale. Palance is in my view the most downright menacing Dracula.

Have you ever watched the interview where he talks about playing Dracula? Fascinating stuff!

Thanks for the update Count, I mentioned in an earlier post that Palance is a very menacing Dracula and I can't wait to see it again. I only hope that I can find it at Best Buy. In regards to the Bluray thing, I enjoyed a first generation combi player that's served me well playing both mediums just fine .The things
now going on 6 years old and it cost $100 then. I can only imagine what they've gone down to at this point.
Now the Laserdisc debate .....that's one I don't want to get into seeing as how I've got 1,000 of those hanging around.

Yes I have, Count, and it is fascinating. Judging from Palance's comments the role really got under his skin!
