a couple people bought these are are reselling them on ebay for a lot more. This is the original auction were they were found, don't know if they are unproduces remakes done in 1999 or if there just ripping them off and throwing them in old box stock. It looks great though and you can't beat that price!

Hope I can get one and not have to pay $400 for it! May as well go for an original if you're gonna spend that kind of money.

Cool. I bought one for $18.
I sent cardlucky (the guy asking $400) an offer of $18. Let's see how he responds.
Got one. Hope it gets here unscathed.
I just got one in the post yesterday, and not only were several nails broken, but he was broken in half. Bummer.

Damn! How much insurance did you have on it?
I'm sure these things are very poorly made, he just listed some more. looks like the other two listed show broken nails, which was also a big problem with the originals. it probably broke in half because there not putting rubber bands around the waist like they originally did.
it must be a knock off factory doing these under the table. the left hand and right hand are swapped, thats why his thumbs is so long! lol but the glow eyes is a nice addition!
It had to be cheap for me to bite since the chances of it getting here without heavy damage are down in the coin toss range. But it's cheap, so by the gods I rolled the dice. Worst case scenario I'm out 18 bucks. :blank:
Even today whenever I go into a pet shop i look at the aquarium toys to see if one day ill find a reissue. For $18 I'm a happy camper! Even if it is cheap, it'll still look cool in a fish tank!

The problem was in the packing. These only have a plastic dome over them, and it had been removed and the toy wrapped in bubble wrap that was taped to the figure. Whoever did it bent him too far backwards and, just like the old one, it snapped. Not that the packing, which is just a padded envelope, helped (bubble scuffed and partially crushed, and yeah, two nails broken). It is a Pen Plax product, but relabeled on front with a sticker from their distro company. The quality of the toy is exactly the same as the '70s version, but with GID eyes and a different base. I'd bet someone figured out they don't have a license to sell it AFTER they made a run. The package even has the old model number on it. These might actually be from 1999, the original tape on the bottom - which was cut to allow the bubble wrap and then retaped with a large swath - has yellowed a bit.
I bet it was the licensing haha, well good to hear the quality is pretty good! Its about time we see these again, maybe if you order a couple they'll put it in a box instead of an envelope. They've already sold over 40 and are still listing more.
I just got one and it was the only one left. Whew, thanks for the heads up on this auction kreaturekid!

None, they don't offer it. I sent an email earlier asking them to replace it, too early to have heard back. If nothing else, it should be covered by eflay and payp.
Thanks for the heads up, just got one. What's up with the eyes? That's my only gripe, maybe a little paint touch up will do the trick.

I was going to buy one, but they're coming from Hong Kong and for only $17.99 with FREE shipping, I'm concerned it will be smashed by he time it reaches me here in the US. They can't be packing these very well for free.

For $18, I thought I'd take a chance. Maybe after the $400 guys get a grip they'll sell an unbroken one at a reasonable price.
These have been on awhile and I already Received multiple shipments of them, most of mine are broke badly. Only shipped in an envelope, I would even ship these fragile items a mile away without a box. The one ill be able to salvage just needs his hand glued back on, all of them nails were broke, some broken at hinge some broken at base. Filed a claim thru eBay but they said I need a return tracking number to get my refund. I didn't think it was worth sending them back what it would cost me. Seller really is no help, he sends out same emails saying same thing, never personalized responses.
Thanks, guys. I'll skip on these then. Even $18 isn't worth my time and/or money for a broken piece of junk from Hong Kong that I can't return or even communicate with the seller.
So, has anyone gotten an unbroken one?
Looks like different arm fins.

I was afraid of that, as that's what today's round of email with them has brought. Ugh.
well the guys selling them on ebay arn't broken so some must be shipping ok. Someone just bought 20 so I'm sure well see these being sold here soon.
Yeah, I was naively optimistic when I ordered the thing, but now that cold hard reality has gripped me I'm expecting this thing to arrive looking like Godzilla powerbombed it. I wish we had an option to pay a few bucks for shipping so the seller could at least ship it in a box. Seems really stupid for so many people to order these things and receive a worthless pile of scrap. Shipped from frikkin' Hong Kong in an envelope!? BULLS#!T!!! >:(
I wonder if there is anyway to pay extra to have it carefully packaged in a box. That would be worth an extra ten bucks to me.

There should be. I thought about sending a message to the seller asking about it but I feared opening a Pandora's Box of aggravation with copious piles of BS. I'd rather negotiate a deal with Blaisdell's Saucermen. At least that way I could get drunk from that weird alchohol injection instead of drunk from confusion and chaos.

I wonder if any of these HongKongese things made it over here in one piece! Well, there goes 18 bucks. Here's your like. I don't really
like it, but you went to some trouble there.
You got 4 and they're all broken! That sucks! Not much chance for my 1.
No wonder we're not seeing more of these being resold on ebay, They're all broken!
Yeah, I have to look on the bright side- at least my Grave Walker got here OK, and it's way cooler and more expensive. Still aggravating that everyone is getting burned because those dunderheads refuse to charge a little to properly pack.

I think they just want to collect their $18 and if yours arrives broken, boo hoo for you!
I received 5, The one I'm displaying has most nails broke. First I ordered 1, then another 1, then 3. I got excited so I ordered more of them before the 1st one ever arrived. I thought well maybe the 3 pack would be in a box but when I received it was just in a bigger envelope.
Their low feedback was a red flag, but I was wearing rose colored Penn Plax Creature glasses. By the time this is over they may have to abandon their eBay handle it will be so soiled.
I bet the guy who ordered 20 will get them in a padded trash bag instead of a box!
Just read some of the negative feedback on this seller and couldn't help but laugh. It seems that a lot of people that bought items ranging from hard drives to mobile phone covers received a box of plastic fruit instead. Seriously, multiple buyers, all receiving plastic fruit instead of what they ordered.

Yeah, I saw that but took the gamble. Interestingly, I just got a reply via ebay:
"We'll resend monster in good packaging for you asap."
You ever get that as a message horrorhunter? And about the photo, ouch.
I look at them as getting a kit, if broken fix it, if not OK. Either way, no way I'd ever find an original for what I want to pay. 18 dollar gamble, we'll survive.
I got a rock.

Nope. I wouldn't be surprised at anything concerning this seller, though. They could have saved time and resources and just stomped on them prior to shipping. Then they could save even more on mailing material and shipped the remains in some taped up Kleenex. >:D
Read all of the negatives, figured I'd still give it a shot. Mine will never see water anyway, so if it comes broken a bit of glue and up on the shelf. Never thought I'd get one (like Adam said, if I saw an old pet store I'd check out the shelves and ask if there's any old stock in the back) so this'll do for now. Thanks for the head's up Adam.
Even in pieces the price seems reasonable, so...
I hope no one here gets the bag of plastic fruit!
Has anyone been able to repair these so they can be actually used in an aquarium?
I'm fine with model building, and I'm sure IF they could be fixed that I could repair one.
Been wanting one of these for eons, but if its busted beyond repair, there is no sense in wasting the money.

I hope all of you with broken Creatures are trying to get your money back (or replacements)? There's no reason we should have to pay for broken merchandise. Will ebay pay, if the seller won't?
You got to be friggin kiddin me, I have the worst luck with this seller, I'm the one that put the photo up of the broken creatures, just got my Saturday mail and received a plastic plant along with some small plastic fruit. The worst thing is this was a quantity 3 purchase which cost me 54 bucks plus they're not even large fruit as you can see from the can of ravioli for size reference. After my wife was done laughing at me she said "WHY DO YOU KEEP GET ORDERING STUFF FROM THAT IDIOT".

This really bothers me. This guy has a potential goldmine with these Creatures and he just pisses it away by sending them in envelopes. Can you imagine how many he could sell if he charged a little more to package them properly? I would love to order a few of these, but even at $18, who wants to get a bunch of broken plastic pieces?
Sorry Frankenstein Rock, but I did get a chuckle out of it. I'm sure I'll be paid back for it once I receive mine.

Exactly. That's the most aggravating thing about all this. The seller has a large quantity of items with value to collectors and they are blown out dirt cheap only to be destroyed by mail carriers because of the crappy packing, without even the option to pay extra for decent packing. Just ridiculous. I took a shot with one and almost dread receiving it. We can repair them up to a point, but for everyone to have to is beyond belief. Also, if the clear plastic container is crushed try repairing that. I'd hate to have this dunderhead's feedback rating after this debacle is over with.

This is the most bizarre, albeit hilarious, thing I've ever seen in all my years of online shopping. This is exactly why I didn't order one of these. I just can't wrap my mind around why so many people get these packages of plastic fruit instead of what they ordered. I don't understand why eBay hasn't banned this idiot yet. Fruit not a mistake if it keeps happening, do they even have any left?
Looking at the seller's feedback, I'm surprised there are not 10 times as many negs. It seems most of his customers order plastic fruit and are delighted when they receive it. I wonder if there are disappointed fruit customers who receive Creatures? Imagine their dismay when they open their envelopes, expecting to see plastic fruit, and instead find this stupid green monster toy.
Thatsa notta my fruit!! LOL
Fruit of the Loom is now Fruit of Lagoon.
I just got my Creature today. Not even one broken fingernail! He was in a white padded envelope like everyone has described, but he was padded with bubble wrap inside his plastic dome. The bubble wrap was wrapped all around his body and he had tape on his waist, so he arrived unbroken! Maybe that's how they are shipping them now.

Were they all shipped in envelopes? I would think, if you ordered a bunch, they might ship them together in a large box. So ordering a few at one time might be a way to ensure they arrive safely. Or not.

An update: I got the replacement, and it came in... a padded envelope. Same as before with with a piece of foam between the arms and the nails on the right hand all pre-broken off. It's kinda funny, because my originals are in better shape! At least I didn't get plastic fruit.
Hate to parade on your rain, Shannon, but I got mine and only one broken claw, which I found. Box and bubble are kinda trashed, but they're not that interesting, so I'll just display without. I'll just have to dust the little bugger!

May I rain on the parade? At this point, this moron should figure out how to pack these things to eliminate ALL damage. I'm sorry, but this idiot has to notice all the negative feedback by now. Can you imagine how happy we would all be to pay a little more and have them boxed (with no fruit)?
I receieved mine today. Broken at the leg and a few claws are missing. :(

As long as fish are ok with lead paint.
I don't know why the seller should bother offering better service when so many people seem perfectly satisfied with the crappy service he's delivering now. His feedback isn't that bad, considering his sales volume. Most of his negs and neutrals have nothing to do with these Creatures. Looking at how many Creatures he's sold, why doesn't he have another 50 negs? I see one buyer wrote "Only one claw broke, so I can't complain" and gave him positive feedback.
I sent this note to the seller:
I'd buy another one (and so would a lot of others) if you could ship in a good box. We would even pay extra shipping charges.
His reply:
Okay, you should write down your requirement when u pay for the items.
Thanks for your purchase.
Take it for whatever you think it's worth. I think I'll try one more time.

Hey, the more broken ones he sends out, the more re-orders he gets. Why should he change?
If anything is wrong with mine, I'm going to NAIL him. Nowhere does it say "guaranteed will allive bloken, or Bloken craw".

Well, that will get you your money back, but I want an undamaged toy (and box), if I can get one. If it doesn't work this time, I'm out!
People keep ordering these things hoping to get an undamaged one, and that guy is selling the crap out of 'em as a result. It's like the old shell game where we were conned into feeding a gumball machine coin after coin hoping to get a monster charm.
Hmmmmm...who's the real dunderhead(s) in this equation? ???
BTW, I ordered one too. I haven't gotten it yet but I'm stopping at the one regardless of condition on arrival.
Investment potential is questionable on this since it's supposed to be the reissue (or a cheap knockoff), and a crapload must exist since so many are being sent across the pond, albeit in various states of disrepair. But I figured this is my best shot to own one since I absolutely refuse to pay the apparent going rate of a vintage one, and I'm probably never going to trip over one in a thrift store.
I'd like to see one of our master modelers give one of these the once over, would probably look great!
Received 3 replacements, all broken, 2 at base the other had a hand broken off, most nails on all 3 broken, The bubbles are very badly damaged not even displayable, envelope was so worn on one corner you could see inside, Hard to believe any of these could be delivered without any damage ESPECIALLY the delicate bubble.
This AFTER you asked for replacements, no excuse for that. At least they sent them but whats the point...
15 years on eBay and this by far my worst Experience, and regarding someone mentioning they were surprised this seller doesn't have more negatives on the creature is probably because nobody is leaving any yet because they're still trying to work with the seller on replacements, refunds, ETC. and don't want to sour the communication. I'm sure they will come.
I was wondering about the feedback too. He still has 100 percent good feedback in spite of, apparently, sending quite a few folks a pack of plastic fruit instead of what they ordered. How is that even possible?
I must be one of the lucky ones because mine arrived with only 3 broken claws. It was bubble wrapped around the figure, but without a box, the nails are too fragile to hold up against an envelope. Still pretty happy with the purchase. My figure slumps over when the tape on his back was removed. Is that how he is supposed to move in the water?

I assume he's more buoyant in the water? When the air/bubbles come up threw the hose it's supposed to make him "bow".

Could you have bought yours from a different seller? If you follow the link in the first post of this thread, his feedback profile showing him at 98.3%. Still way too high in my opinion.
Of course, anyone that got crappy figures could send "anything" back for the full refund, and attempt to repair the damage while the seller enjoys getting a package full of plastic fruit.
I received mine today. Would you believe absolutely no damage? Not even the fingernails. It was very well packaged, even though it was in a padded envelope. Check out the pictures. Got mine today. I am surprised it got here in one piece. The clear plastic bubble was actually torn, bent back, and partially crushed. Some of the nails are broken off. If someone painted over the ends of the broken nails it would be hard to tell it was damaged since the nails were pretty long to begin with. I removed the bubble and bent it back into shape, as well as taping the bottom where it was torn. I replaced the bubble backwards and it displays pretty well.
This is it for me. I think I got lucky to get one that wasn't turbo-effed. If you did get one without even broken nails you are extremely lucky. I'm washing my hands of this and quitting while I'm ahead.

ionline.technology7. Mine had some bubble wrap taped to the Creature inside the plastic bubble dome, and it was of course shipped in that damnable padded envelope. I would have gladly sent another ten bucks to ship it in a box but, as we all know, we didn't have that option. I'm surprised it wasn't mutilated far worse considering how rough mail carriers are.
I think all hong kong sellers are shipping from the same place. Got one from both sellers and were packaged exactly the same. Im still waiting on another 2 but I'm supper happy with my first 2!!

I wasn't happy with the way the nails looked on mine so I gave him a manicure. I clipped the unbroken nails down to about 1/2 length to match the broken ones. Then I used a large red sharpie and colored over the white nail tips that were broken or clipped. Then I put the bubble back on and taped it securely with some transparent tape and...voila, nail problem fixed. The nails are so long on these things that they still look pretty good even at half length, which is the length of my Creature's broken ones, and now all of them after the clipping. It displays very well now. Red paint would work great too. I just used the sharpie to "blood" mine up because it was easier.
Nails are an easy fix, and I got lucky mine wasn't all busted up like so many of them. I'm glad I ordered it now, but like I said before, I'm quitting while I'm ahead. There may be a few bucks to be made buying some of these to resell and there may not. It's just more aggravation than what it's worth to me. I'm just happy to have a displayable one for my collection. Thanks for the heads-up, kreaturekid. :)

Wow, that's the best condition I've seen one of these! Congrats!
I'm way too anal to even try this. One broken nail would freak me out (let alone an envelope full of plastic fruit).
Like HH says the nails are way too long and thin, trimmed back looks more authentic, either way its a badarse Creech I didn't have for less than 20 bucks! I think I'll redo the eyes on one of them...
I just checked E-bay & noticed this guy has sold 165 of these. I wonder how many of those were badly broken. He claims to have 66 more for sale. He's got to be behind the production of these.
It's happened before with bobbleheads out of China and who knows what else. Still the old West in many aspects. These weren't even advertised as Creech to my knowledge!!

I am really looking forward to displaying my plastic fruit when they arrive.
I just got a notice yesterday that mine was shipped, and here's to hoping that maybe he's learned from responses to package them better? :P
Sigh.. Ok, I'll pop for this and see if I get a decent one or not. Sounds like no one has tried theirs in an aquarium yet though, and it'd be nice to find out if they actually work.
I asked to have my 2nd one sent in a sturdy box, with the waist taped and a small piece(s) of foam taped over the claws. They said "OK", so we'll see what happens!

Just got 2 more, a couple broken nails on each but otherwise Great!!
With these so plentiful, look forward to some customs
Got mine too. Two nail were broken and glued them back on. They didn't ship in a box though, which would of protected it more from damage. Mine doesn't stand up straight, it slouches over. Is that the nature of him?
yes, if you take the tape off he'll be bending over, the purpose of this is that the air bubbles build up in him making him stand strait, then when the bubbles go out of the top of his head he bows down.
I had one as a kid, lots of times, he was just bent over with the bubbles coming out from behind him.

Okay, this thread is officially "A HOOT" now.
I cut a strip of Saran Wrap about 3/4" wide and just wrapped it around his waist two times to make him stand up straight. Seemed to work pretty well. It's reversable, not too noticeable and doesn't do any damage.

I received my first three today two were perfect, and one had two broken claws and a dented bubble. Came in a padded envelope but they were packed in bubble wrap and foam on the inside of the bubble. Still waiting on two I had ordered a day before these. Still showing in chicago on the tracking? Went ahead and ordered three more to use for presents to friends! These are definitely a warehouse find I would say, I wonder why they never made it out? Licensing issues maybe?
Its strange that penn plax had been asked by several people if they would re release this creature and had said no, and they obviously had.
Also I wonder how many were produced in this "1999" run?
They are quite nice and I cant help but think they will devalue the original release. (I have 3 originals, 1 boxed, 1 loose with stomach fin,, and 1 loose black one.)
Much like the big frankie model re release did, they plummeted after mobius remade it. Many people who longed for these and thought of them as grails, and were satisfied with the remakes, And interest in finding an original was lost. These were bringing Well over $1,000 before, and Ive bought 2 originals with original boxes in the last few years for around $200 each.
It seems pretty obvious that the base was not made for this figure. The Creature has just been glued on with a couple of big globs of silicone. I wonder what (if anything) originally went with the base?
The fig. also has an extra set of arm fins and the glow eyes, but otherwise looks like the original.
And don't forget the backward hands. Lol
Should I PM them and ask them are they making them or a warehouse find?
I BOUGHT ONE 18 BUCKS FROM CHINA A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. ITS A SHAME PEOPLE ARE GETTING RAKED OVER THE COALS.

Anyone could put a 1999 copyright on any item to make it look authentic. If these were available back then, I think someone here would have already had one. Anyway, that's what it seems like to me.
I don't think anyone inferred that they were available back then but it is possible they were made at that time and for whatever reason ended up in some warehouse gathering dust until recently. If someone was going to falsify a date I would think they'd shoot for 60's/70's, maybe 80's at latest.
Maybe they were trying not to be obvious. I don't know....seems fishy (pun intended).

Which means they came from an earlier century, and as we all know, anything from the 20th Century that has survived to the present day is extraordinarily rare, and quite valuable.

I bought four and all of them arrived in good condition except one and it was broken at the waist. I wrote them and they are sending a replacement since I sent pictures of the broken part. The bubbles were trashed but not a broken nail in the bunch. These are currently being produced and not NOS or a 1999 reissue. I can't even find anything around 1999 that would have been considered a reissue. I have a friend in a factory over there that's paying them a visit this week. I wanted him to pick me up about five dozen at cost and pack them in a box with one of our shipments back to the US. Will let you know what he reports and I told him to take pictures.

Why does the thinner tape seem yellowed/vintage then, and why would they tape them, then open them up to bubble wrap and then retape, wouldn't you just do that to begin with?

So the big question is- what will this do to the value and demand of the original? Obviously some people will only settle for an original, BUT...

The head looks like a new (crude) sculpt with some Creature "features". The hands could be original, but with some modifications. (The hands don't look so much glued on as
melted on.)
Love the gold horns & pug nose. What could possibly be next?

Now someone on eBay is selling a 1974 Creature from the Black Lagoon Aquarium figure from a company called Geisler. It's still in the package. It looks like a vintage Penn Plax knock-off! I've never seen one before, but the seller is asking $599.
Radioactive Rod
This popped up on my feed yesterday. I was shocked to see it. I have no idea what in the world it is.
Kreaturekid should know if this thing is legit or a scam.
It looks like a legitimate, vintage knockoff. It looks like somebody back in the early 1970s took the Penn Plax Creature mold and sculpted a new face with horns (so they wouldn't get sued by Universal!). It's pretty cool, but it's hardly six hundred bucks cool. Still, I've never seen one before. It's a unique knockoff of a treasured collectible.

This is legit. It is a known item that has popped up before. Nothing mysterious about it. Just a vintage knockoff of a knockoff. Of interest to the hardcore Creature completist, or knockoff enthusiast. I don't know if it's "worth" $599. I'm thinking $125 might be more like it, because of the funky head, missing claws and trashed packaged.

That is an excellent theory. But I would choose to go out on a limb and propose that landlcollectibles could be L and L Collectibles with the spaces removed. I need to test this hypothesis, but so far it looks promising.
regantr6 - I got lucky as well. The creature was hugging a block of black foam, with bubble wrap around the outside. No damage beyond a bent, not broken, claw.
I am curious about these, tho. The base is obviously designed for something else...a bubbling barrel, perhaps? All they did was glue some greens in the circular hole and crudely glue the creech atop that. I'm not complaining - it really is a nice little Creature figure anfd the base is detailed and interesting. Has anyone made a comparison between an original and this piece. And was the 2nd release a duplicate of the first?

The original stood on a flat rock that looks like it was made for it, as the pins on his feet fit into holes in the rock.
If by 2nd release you mean this current one, it has additional fins on the arms and the glowing eyeballs.
Took a chance and ordered one. Cross your fingers for me that mine arrives with claws intact -- and that I don't get the plastic fruit! I do have a (loose) original -- so if this arrives busted, I'll be disappointed, but not heartbroken.
My second one is on the way. I asked for a box and they said "sure". We'll see! If I get it mashed in a bag, I'm done.
They have two options:
a) Mashed in a bag b) Mashed in a box
Please make your selection now.

How long is this typically taking to get? Maybe I'm just impatient (realizing it's coming from Asia), but I feel like it's taking forever haha.
I'm sure after the long wait it will arrive in shambles. If it wasn't for bad luck..

There was the one with the fin on his chest and the black one. I think those both came in the original packaging? Then there was the one with the freaky horned head, made by Geisler(sp). Not sure the release dates for any of those. I would think the first two would have been nearer the 1971 date, though.
I have always kicked myself for not saving the original one I had. Even though I just started a new job, I went ahead and spent money that I should not be spending and ordered one. Hope I get lucky and it is in good condition. Should receive mine about the 2nd or the 8th of April.

None of these were ever sold, till recently, otherwise at least
one of them would have shown up on the collector's market in the last 15 years. They were just now opened to add extra packing/protection after complaints.

It doesn't look like they were marketed to that area, as the packaging is all in English.

The plastic dome has some dents but otherwise everything else was ok. Got lucky I guess.
Got mine today. Shipped in bubble pack envelope as others have described. Figure very well wrapped in bubble wrap -- in perfect condition! Plastic dome has a couple dents -- but otherwise great. Figure seems to be glued at the waist -- but since I have no intention of ever using it in an aquarium -- no big deal. I do have a loose original, missing a few claws -- but am very happy to have this as well. No plastic fruit!

Take a shot, man. It's worth it.
I got mine with some broken nails, but after a manicure and some red sharpie action it looks great. Those nails look better a little shorter anyhow, they're too long and thin normally. Mine arrived fully working too, not glued at the waist. Doesn't really matter though since mine is displayed on one of my monster shelves (next to my Remco Seaview), and it will never see the inside of an aquarium.
This is probably the only way I would have ever owned one of these since I never planned to pay anywhere near collector's prices for one, and the chances of tripping over one in a thrift store is remote. But, 18 bucks? Yep, it's worth the chance (which seems to be getting better with improved packing).

I was thinking of putting mine in a small fishbowl (dry) with the colored stones on the bottom and a couple of plastic fish on wires stuck in the stones.
I might actually put mine in a birdcage. It would make a nice conversation piece.

I just bit the bullet and purchased one, despite the damage risk. Something is appealing to me about the gamble (reminds me of the gamble of the old 25-cent machines and/or baseball card packs; hoping to not get a stinker). In this case, "damaged or not damaged?" is the thrill!

Well, same old same old. Broken Creature, crushed packaging! No point in buying another one!
My Creature wasn't actually broken. It had just come apart at the waist. So I fixed that and since it has no broken nails, I've got a good figure! Can't say the same for the package, though.
I would rather spend my $$ on an order of crab legs and steamed broccoli from Red Lobster than buy an item (even a cheap one) and have the item arrive in broken condition. At least I get a meal out of the deal. If I spent that same cash and got a broken toy---I get nothing.
I am a picky monster buyer these days. I aint spending $18 on one of these until/unless they arrive soundly to folks. Not smashed. That being said---I will gladly pop $80 per figure for the Distinctive Dummies Vincent Price Megoesque wave. Because they wont arrive destroyed. Arriving safely is preferable to crossing ym fingers and wishing. Then possibly losing my money when it arrives crushed.
Mine arrived today! The creature had came off his base but that's an easy fix. He was also missing a few claws but I'm not going to complain, I'm pretty happy with the purchase. I'll put some pics up once I get this guy in my tank!

Don't feel bad...it looks like I've missed my chance to get one of those broken Creatures (hey, we all have glue).
I sent a comment to the seller, essentially telling him that monster collectors here in the states were curious about the creature - whether it was new old stock, or recently manufactured...just asking for some background info. My response was a generic message thanking me for positive comments.
Heck, I tried!
He probably didn't understand a word you wrote.
well mine arrived today, Same padded envelope. Everything was fine with the plastic bubble and cardboard. They had opened it up and wrapped bubble wrap around the creature, but still had one broken claw. When I took the bubble wrap off and the tape at the waist, I found that they had glued his back to his butt, and that the pivot mechanism was broken. And on top of that it looks like they bashed two diffent tops and bottoms together, because I carefully unstuck the back from the butt and was going to reglue the pivot parts back together but the two broken halves dont even match up. I think something is missing on mine. Does any one here know how the hinge is supposed to look. A simple drawing or diagram from someone would help. I was actually was going to use mine.
Ok never mind I figure out how the pivot works and can now repair it I hope will let you know how it goes.
These Creatures that people are receiving glued at the waste must be the broken ones that people have returned, and the seller is cannibalizing bits to assemble and send back out to the next guy. This guy's like a Black Lagoon Dr. Frankenstein sending out all these patchwork Creatures. Too bad we'll probably never get the straight dope on this whole shmeer, like how he got all of them and how many there were to start with. It would make a helluva article for a monster mag or blog.
Tell you one thing though, if he knew what he had he could have made a small fortune by listing them correctly and actually shipping them in a friggin BOX. Could have probably scored many times what he actually did so far with the collector demand for that item, even for a later release (that most people didn't even know about). He kinda crapped and fell back in it because he didn't research the market.
As much as I hate the thought of potentially flushing $18 down the potty, I'm actually getting quite a bit of entertainment out of this whole fiasco (and the weirdness of it all). So excited to see what is delivered to me when my package arrives.
Also, I have figured out a sure-fire scheme to up one's chances of receiving an unbroken one: simply order several dozen on them. If enough are ordered, one creature aquarium ornament will be safely surrounded by dozens of other creature aquarium ornaments as "padding," followed by another few layers of creature aquarium ornaments that protect the subsequent layers beneath. 50-60 should do the trick, and will safely protect the one unharmed creature aquarium ornament at the center of the bundle.
It'll cost a few thousand dollars, but you're practically guaranteed an undamaged creature aquarium ornament!
Unless the guy in China sends each creature aquarium ornament individually in a shoddy padded envelope.
Not so fast, TDM, I believe that most of these are broken before they even get packed to ship. We've had a couple of people who only ordered one and got perfect specimens. Others have ordered as many as a half dozen and had them all arrive broken. I bet some even get snapped when they try to put the protective padding on. Either way, I hope yours beats the odds and arrives in pristine shape. Please let us know the outcome.

I still can't figure out why someone didn't buy a slew of these (thus requiring a box) and resale them here at the UMA for 25 bucks a pop, taking into account the possibility of broken claws and assorted fruit. I guess everyone was too busy trying to figure out if they were real or not. ;)

Its known that the legals/lawyers at Universal peruse the forum's hallowed halls. Perhaps they stumbled across this thread and became....interested. Like many of us--interested in knowing if these were actually produced in 1999 or being cranked out now. Either they had a great big warehouse find that just kept on giving, or they were cranking them out a whole new door.
Or I could be paranoid, and they stopped offering them because they seemed incapable of delivering anything without using the Incredible Hulk as their courier. IE: Hulk Smash! At any rate they are gone now. Perhaps never to return. But I am still glad I didnt buy one. $18 for a smashed item would've ticked me off.
i just got mine today 26 days since i ordered it and its in one piece. looks great brings me back 40 something years
The seller replied to me asking if I wanted a refund. I told him i would rather have an unbroken Creature. He refunded me instead, so I guess you are right they are all gone now. :-\
I received my Creature a couple weeks ago. Two of the claws were broken, but still attached. The bubble was a little dinged up. Other than that, it was in decent shape.
I documented the opening of the package with my cell phone.

Our cats would break it even worse, if they got that close,
I noticed that other Aqua toys have the exact same packaging. Since they appear to be out of Creatures, maybe I can still get the box, if I could figure out how to get an unbashed one.

Ray, the cat's reactions were nothing short of amazing.
Whatever people say about the Creature toy & it's crappy arrivals, it sure has given us 21 pages of fun, so far, on this thread.

Got Mine today, three nails broke, and also broke at the waist. However it is a clean break at the torso. There is a hinged plastic piece that joins the upper and lower torso. The flap is still attached to the lower torso. I have alot years experience in model building, so I know I can repair it, but I dont know how far I need to glue the flap up into the upper torso. Although it is doubtful it will ever see water I would like to keep it operational. If anyone could post pictures of this creature that is not broke in a straight upright position (without being hunched over) it should give me a good idea on how far up the flap needs to be glued. Thanks in advance to anyone who can post this picture.
I am off to Chatuchak Market here in Bangkok at the weekend. If they have made it to Bangkok from China I will be picking up a bunch of these. The market has an enormous Tropical Fish section so I hope for the best
It looks like mine got lost, or was never mailed--it's a week past the estimated delivery date, and it shows as having a tracking number but there is no indication that that number has been accepted into the system anywhere. I just emailed them to see if they can get this to happen...because, you know, a plastic creature is important. Sort of.

For some reason it never dawned on me either that that photo inspired the image on the Anchor Hocking glass even though it's the same pose. Is that a real creature candy box in your photo, or a copy? Great creature display.

Seen them selling for $50-100 on ebay, too. You might actually get that much for an
unbroken one!
I would go $50 for an absolutely mint one.
mine got here today! the envelope was intact and nothing rattled when i gave it a small shake.
opened it up and noticed the figure was heavily wrapped in bubble wrap.
carefully cut to remove and Viola' there it was!

Just got this email regarding mine (whose bubble was almost I damaged, but whose hands were snapped off at the wrist, probably by being wrapped too tightly in bubble wrap):
"I get your photos.thanks for your help!
We can resend a replacement, but I am not sure if we can ship it by a box.
Also, this item has been out of stock, it will be available at the end

I can refund u if u have any problem with this.

That's interesting.
Here we go again. Maybe I can still get one.
I'll report further developments.
Haven't received mine yet, but it's supposed to arrive this week. HOWEVER, i just received a mysterious "your item has shipped" message from ebay (for this item). When I logged in to see what was going on, i noticed that I now have two separate tracking numbers/statuses, sent on two different dates (one Creature was sent a few weeks ago, and anothe was sent today). Perhaps they're sending me someone else's order by mistake. I'll keep the UMA updated.
Maybe one's The Creature and the other is that supplemental package of plastic fruit a lot of people got.
If that's the case, I can perhaps build my own "Carmen Miranda From The Black Lagoon."
Welll--- If the come back up for sale, I am gonna roll the dice and take me chances.

I would like to offer plastic fruit replacements to anyone stuck with those dreadful little aquarium monsters. Mail the little bastards to me and you will receive the plastic fruit within a week. I will do this out of the kindness in my heart for all my UMA brethren.
They are back on ebay. $25.99 with you guessed it...free shipping in a white bubble wrap package!
Back at it again. Here we go...

Ready for 10 more pages of entertainment. Why not gamble, you only loose a few drinks from Starbucks! Here's your chance if you missed last time. I think someone is making them. Old back stock wouldn't be this clean. A knock off of something we all like...period!
At $17.99, I would consider it, but I'm not laying out $26 unless I'm guaranteed a perfect Creech (in a damn box).

After the price hike they should send it in a box. I wonder how high they are going to push the prices on these things and still expect people to gamble on getting an unbroken one. Hell, if they would ship securely they could have gotten a lot more to start with from collectors, who are obviously their clientele. People who just want an aquarium ornament can get one cheap at Wal-Mart...and have it unbroken and actually working. Whoever is behind this big Creature Blitz sure stepped in it. In the words of Bugs Bunny- "What a maroooon".
The price hike should more than cover the price of shipping in a cardboard box.
I'd pay 25 bucks for a MINT Creature from an American seller that comes USPS/UPS with insurance. No way I would take this overseas gamble.
I agree. For that price, they should offer a stinking box.

. You'd have to pay double, for someone to deal with these people and somehow be able to get mint product from them..yeesh the time involved, bad ones received etc. Wouldn't pay to do it for any less

We don't need to deal with them. We need to deal with their distributor. ;)
UPDATE: just received mine, and it's in perfect condition. Opened bubble mailer to find a brown cardboard box. It was ill-fitting (for the actual item, but still protected it, nonetheless. Creature inside was well-wrapped in bubble wrap (seller opened packaging, wrapped creature, and re-sealed. Also, clear tape was wrapped around the midsection of figure, preventing the two parts to break apart.
Very satisfied!

As I look at the photos I just posted, it appears that creature might have two right hands. I'll have to inspect tomorrow when I get back to the office.
I knew it was too good to be true...
I think it was mentioned before that that was the case with these. Look at picks/posts from page one. I think they all came like this. Don't worry, it looks beautiful.

You've got one of each, but these new Penn-Plax have the hands on the opposite of the '70s ones.
Yes, they all have the hands on the wrong arms...if that makes any sense!
Thanks, gang! So, to be clear, I do indeed have two different hands, but they're on the wrong arms (which is how ALL of these "bootlegs" are)?
If so, I'm fine with that. It's not a fluke if they're all like that :)

Absolutely! Look at page one, post#5 (KreatureKid). That should clear things up for you. Of course, if you're still dissatisfied, you could always sell it to me, ha ha.
Yes, yours looks like it should. The ones I have seen are all like that. Congratulations on getting one that was not totally smashed.
Has anybody else gotten any of these recently? Just wondering if they are all starting to come in decent shape.
I might take a chance on another if the sellers finally have their act together.
I haven't seen any at the $17.99 in a while. Ultimately, mine got refunded suddenly after I got a message from the seller telling me they'd look into being abke to box one. So, I got a free broken ones, but I'd MUCH prefer an intact one I paid for.
The claws continue to be a problem, I think they break them when they jam the foam insulation in to protect the piece! Bubble should be sufficient. However the packaging was protected by cardboard now.

That is really great news! My friend ordered one a few days ago & was told that they were out of stock (maybe permanently). When did you order yours?
It's unfortunate that such a high percentage of these are damaged! The seller obviously had no respect for his wares, or his customers. Just trying to squeeze out as many dollars from his warehouse find as possible, not realizing he could have made 3 times as much if he knew what he had and didn't have to refund much of his profits.
Not to mention, damage so many irreplaceable Creatures.
I'd venture a guess, 1 in 100 mint in nm box, maybe less .... SMH
This is a little upsetting i ordered one and they claimed it shipped but got returned. then when i asked to reship they said i had to wait cause it was broke. So since the wait would be long they refunded me and told me more would be available soon and now they maybe out? This sucks!
