We already had the candle holder hanging in the kitchen and the Halloween lantern (battery operated candle) looks great in it!

Cool vintage looking wreath! 14 1/2" diameter.
Can anyone guess how we'll be spending our Labor Day....lots more stuff to dig up out of the basement and put up!! 'Tis the season for home haunting!
I love the lantern.
We haven't started yet but will post when something is done and/or found.
I'll be putting up a display of Halloween memorbilia at the Wilson NC pulic library.
Michael's usually has very cool Halloween decor. ;D

Three years ago I picked up a bunch of the Spooky Town stuff at Michael's for 80% off in an after Halloween sale. I've checked since and things haven't been marked down nearly so much after Halloween. I guess they wised up and quit overproducing it. Some of those Spooky Town buildings are pretty cool. tynhrt
Oh boy!! H2K13!
zombiehorror- I love all your new Halloween finds. My husband & I have mostly been working on "new" lifesized figs. for the yard haunt. We reuse all the bodies year after year, an we just make them into different characters. I did buy that HM gargoyle candle holder they had at the Disney online store. But so far, we have spent most of the $ on wooden fence pickets for a coffin & a guillotine. I am looking forward to scoping out Target, Kmart, & Halloween stores in my shopping area.

You have a Guillotine? Cool. Looks like you'll be a-head of the rest of us this Halloween.
I have a pillory.
I'll use the same pumpkin as last year. 'Can always add more.

I'll take our purple lights out of storage and buy more purple lights.
One year I used orange and purple lights, then decided ALL purple lights is a better vibe
for giving out candy:

Did you replace all your Jack O'Lantern bulbs with flicker bulbs? It helps sell the idea that the pumpkins are real.
I replaced all my 5w night light bulbs with these 3.5w flicker bulbs:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Primitive-Candle-Flicker-Flame-Light-Bulbs-Set-of-6-/380460195543?pt=Folk_Art&hash=item589531ded7 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Primitive-Candle-Flicker-Flame-Light-Bulbs-Set-of-6-/380460195543?pt=Folk_Art&hash=item589531ded7)
Make sure they are 3.5w and not the less bright 3w or below. Shop around for different quantities. The per bulb price varies a LOT. They are priced much higher in your local hardware store.
I've had several people complement me on my pumpkin carving skills.

Yes, I have a small flicker bulb.
There's nothing like a fresh carved pumpkin with a great smelling candle in it. I may display one or more of those this yr as it has been SEVERAL years.
'Just found our set of Halloween cookie cutters. Now that it's September I will have 10/31 on my mind daily. ' LOVE IT ! 8)

LOVE the smell of pumpkin roasting over a candle flame! To me, it is better than pumpkin pie smell on Thanksgiving.
It's unfortunate that most squirrels love to eat my pumpkins .. I really seed and clean them out very well .. or maybe the squirrels are just attempting to improve my craving skills which are not veyr good.
Picked up Ichabod Flame from Lowes, it's a ceramic Jack O'Lantern that uses the same flame effect that you see in faux fire places. Apparently each Lowes isn't stocking very many of them, the first one we went to had one on display which really caught our eye...and apparently a few other folks as well. They didn't have any more instock but a worker told us that another store had 2, we ended up going to the other store later that day. I think the only reason the store had two left was because they didn't have one displayed so no one really noticed them. If you get a chance swing by Lowes and check out ol' Ichabod! It's cool to have a Jack O'Lantern that won't rot and you don't have to worry about an open flame inside of, he'll be illuminating the night from now until Halloween!
The Batman- I really like those purple lights!! And even though I've decorated extensively for Halloween- for 30 years...I have never thought of hanging the light strings vertically! That is an AWESOME effect! A person can get stuck doing things the same way year after year, and I think I'm getting set in my ways! hahahahaha! I'm going to steal your technique, and hang some orange lights (or purple if I can find some) vertically behind a lacy curtain. We have an area that we cover with a black curtain during our Halloween party, that is just full of our computer junk, and it would look cool to have it illuminated because it's in the back of a room.
ZH- I need to get to Lowes! It's fun to see what they have.
My guillotine is a non-functioning torture device. We will display it outside for a couple of weeks, and we don't want to take a chance on anyone getting hurt on it. I had my husband make the neck hole large enough for the skeleton victim- but it doesn't have a hinge or a big enough hole for a live human. And the blade is sheet metal, but I put a thin ridge of red duct tape across the edge so it's not sharp. I know........I know.....NO fun! Ha! Our stocks are built the same way- big enough for a 5' Blucky skeleton- that's all. They are just for looks. We put our electric chair out on Halloween day for people to take pictures sitting in it.

I've obtained lots of purple lights from Walgreens during the past 3 yrs, so it may continue to be the same. 'Starting to see lots of stores building their Halloween sections. Good times! :)

We had problems last year because we had the tail end of a tropical storm blowing on Halloween and our Jeepers Creepers Creeper took a couple of unplanned flights off the roof, so this year we're focusing on coming up with a better mounting system.
I had hoped to do a werewolf from Dog Soldiers, but if you're familiar with that monster the head is based on a real wolf head, so I'm having to work through a taxidermist to get a wold shoulder mount done and that takes forever.
Didn't decorate too much, but did carve up a Frankenstein jack-o-lantern. Probably the most complicated pumpkin design I've attempted (from a sketch I made). Looks alright, weirdly ape-like though...

I like the disturbing theme of your home boarded-up to prepare for the night of the living dead!
Some kids may decide to skip your scary home. BIG UPS for your setup concept and hard work!

WOWZERS!! You all have some fantastic decorations, jack o'lanterns & yard haunts!!! I cannot tell you how much I admire your hard work, monster fiends!! I am in some brilliant company! JEEPERS CREEPERS! That Jeepers Creepers ghoul is grand!!!
ZH- Your house is always a Halloween mansion! I swear I have talked about your columns to my husband waaaaay too many times! If he ever ran into you in a public place, I'm sure he'd refer to you as "Mr. Fancy Columns" hahahaha! He'd better build me some next year! Although I can't complain too much- I did get him to build me a coffin this year :)
It's very tiring to set ALL this stuff up & keep the fog juice filled, hand out hundreds of bags of candy & tear it all down after it's all over....but we can't stop!! It's a dying art form! Yard haunting rules! And if you don't have a yard- Haunting your own space or cell is just as cool! WOOOOHOOO! Have a good one tomorrow night!!!
Happy Halloween!!!!

Thanks!! The house/set up actually looks more ominous than it actually is....more Haunted Mansion than Elm St......nothing jumps out or startles you! Still some kids have been known not to enter the graveyard!
I didn't get to put everything out since it was still raining off and on but it was still a decent set up. Here are some pics.
Apparently something is set wrong on the camera as some of the pictures turned out like crappy cell phone pics but here they are nonetheless?!!

GOOD SHOW, zombiehorror!! We also had to keep running in & out of the rain. I finally just left the fragile props in the house. I took a few pics, but they were from my phone....and they are kind of bad. hahaha! I'll scrape a couple up & post them. ON TO H2K14!

Man, those columns are so amazing, I'd want to keep them up all year round! (which of course, would ruin them). :P
COOL photos, everyone!

Found these in the Christmas section at a store called Rural King?! These things don't have a Christmas vibe to them at all, they are not bright-shiny, nor are they gold, silver, red or green! They actually look aged-creepy as is!!
I got 4 sets, normally $10 each but all Christmas was 50%!

Not sure where they are going next year but they will definitely be part of the graveyard!

I carved a friend to go with my Frankenstein pumpkin earlier in the thread. Hopefully you know who it's supposed to be. Kinda looks like him if you blur your eyes...

So here are some pictures of me and the crew from this past Halloween. First, Deuce and I admiring the treats on the dining room table:

And here I am examining the results after the lady across the street had had it up to here with her roommate's slovenly habits:
