Title: TCM Monster Movie Marathon
Post by: Cerebus on June 10, 2013, 07:49:14 PM
Did anyone see the mini monster movie marathon on TCM, Thursday June 6th?

The Bride of Frankenstein
Godzilla, King of the Monsters (1956)
Creature From the Black Lagoon
King Kong (1933)

Why don't they do this more often?

BTW, Universal has greenlit a remake of Creature From the Black Lagoon. It will be titled simply, The Black Lagoon.

Any thoughts?

There have been rumblings about a remake of Black Lagoon since the late 80's when John Carpenter was going to do it.  I like to think he would have done a good job, but I don't think it needs to be done.  The original creature design was and still is frigging amazing and I'm pretty sure any attempts at 'modernizing' it will be asinine at best.

Nothing beats those underwater scenes where he's swimming upside-down, mirroring Adam's swim strokes. Don't know how you can get a visual better than that. And in-color may make it look fake rather than better. Although they did a nice job in Hellboy with that fish-man character.  :)

A great feature of TCM that makes even skeleton warriors dance -- no commercials!

Awesome line up. Jason and the Argonauts was my fave film for years when I was a kid. I used to get good grades in world history because of my reports on Greek Mythology and Jason & the Argos in particular. :D

No Creature remake for me. They got it right the first time.

caught Eye if the Tiger and Earth vs.. but fell asleep before 20,000 Fathoms started. Luckily I have them all on DVD and all of them have great special features, making of, interviews with Harryhausen & Ray Bradbury, trailers, the dynamation reel, etc. :)

"Eye of the Tiger" is my least favorite of all of Ray's films -- the creatures just aren't very interesting (except, of course, Jane Seymour)...

She is certainly the most interesting creature in the film :D which is unusual for a Harryhausen movie. I'm just glad he was able to make Clash of the Titans after this so his legacy ended on a high note!

Clash of the Titans was on TCM last Saturday. I had totally forgotten Perseus' mother had a topless scene. My son saw his first movie boob!

Lol, congrats to your son. My first movie boobs was in a kung fu movie with Bruce Lee, Fists of Fury, I think. My dad took me and my brother to see it. He must have seen it was coming and sent us to buy popcorn, but we stood at the back of the theater and watched the whole scene :)

I think the Creature from the Black Lagoon should be left alone.

Seymour used to go on talk shows and joke about this being the only G-rated nude scene in film history. Then she'd tell a story about filming "The Thorn Birds" with Richard Chamberlain that was quite graphic, but very funny.

I concur, the Creature is too iconic to tamper with his appearance :'(.Besides didn't they do a pseudo remake with Anaconda? ;D
