Title: Favorite edition of the Star Trek series
Post by: general gruesome on June 07, 2013, 08:33:28 PM
I've been on a big Star Trek kick lately, recently re-watching episodes of TOS and the first four or five films. I was wondering what edition of the six Star Trek series' is your favorite? I've seen random episodes of them all. I love them all, but prefer TOS, the '70s cartoon, and some of the others were pretty decent, although I don't remember liking 'Enterprise' very much, the remaining ones were all from the 1990s, so I enjoyed them quite a bit.

Loved the cartoon.  That and the Godzilla cartoon and Fat Albert made getting up early on a saturday a lot easier than it is today.

LOVE the original series, the rest are just something to watch when there's nothing else on.

Love the Fat Albert cartoon, been re-watching it again on Hulu.

1) The original (and still the best)
2) Voyager
3) The Next Generation
4) The Animated Series
5) I never watched DS9 and I thought Enterprise had potential, but it never achieved it.

I tought Enterprise lived up to it's expected potential : I expected crap, and that's what they showed.

Classic Trek for the win for sure . . .

After that, I REALLY enjoyed Deep Space Nine. Next Gen' is solid, and in re-watching it, I'm warming up to Enterprise. Voyager did nothing for me . . .

And I need to rewatch the cartoons. :)

I'd prefer the original series, but not the remastered episodes which are on- line to view.

If I just want a quick fix I go for TOS. Otherwise Voyager if I can spare an entire afternoon though they are all enjoyable to me.

The original series was on almost all of the time back in the day when syndication was a little bit different.
The UHF stations almost all carried it. I vaguely recall it being on NBC during the 1960's on Friday nights.

I think that the Star Trek franchise is tired. Others may disagree, but there's only so much juice one can get from an orange.
The "reboot" (or whatever ...) just didn't cut it (IMO) and a few people that I know told me that "Into Darkness" is really nothing special...

Just got the blu-ray set of the original series, and am just a few episodes in. Gives you the option of watching the original versions or the upgraded effects versions. They've done an amazing job on the image quality on these -- just gorgeous. Certainly a far cry from the fuzzy, snowy images on the ol' antenna TV back when they were first aired.

I also like the cartoon series (in my Netflix queue) and the movies (and, yes, the new reboot) -- but don't really care for any of the follow-up series. I watched Next Gen when it was new -- but it alway felt like "Star Trek: the Afterschool Special" to me -- all that crap about the character's feelings.  Damnit -- go fight some lizard-headed aliens and blow some stuff up, will ya? No interest in ever watching those again.  And couldn't watch any of the others at all.

You pretty much summed it up, Terry.

I liked the sixth installment of the films, maybe the second. The original series was (for the most part) pretty solid but the follow- up shows such as The Next Gen., Enterprise, etc. were just to keep the series "going" and keep Paramount's pockets deep.

I know that there are Trek people out there who like these series the films but to each his own.
I just feel that the franchise ran it's course and became stale.

On this date (September 8th) in 1966 , the original  "Star Trek" aired it's first episode. (The Man Trap)
Also on this date in 1973 the animated series aired it's first episode. ( Beyond The Farthest Star)

Happy Birthday Star Trek

The original series
The even numbered movies (1-6)
The animated series.
Next Generation had it's moments.  What I don't understand is how Prof. Xavier had the time to both run the Enterprise and his school for gifted youngsters.  Maybe they took place in different time lines.

No he captained the Enterprise several centuries after his mutant school. Don't worry he had time for both ;)

Next Generation has always been my fave.

I watched it excitedly from the first episode airing and followed it all the way through.
Just something about they way they captured the character of human nature just always caught my fancy.  Data was my favorite character, of course.

Egads, I remember the outrage and moral shock when they killed of Tasha Yar. Back then, major cast members just weren't killed off.  Good times.

on a different note..... KHHHHAAAAAAAANNNN!!!

The one and only  STAR TREK. - Grups, "he's dead, Jim", "fascinating", Harry Mudd, tribbles, we eb plebnista (We the People...), thank you Mr. Roddenberry!!
TNG - Very cushy luxury ship...Hilton in Space, Prime Directive my foot, where's the conflict but still enjoyed it, Borgs taking Picard...finally conflict!, hated I, Pugh, loved Data as Holmes, Yar never should have left, happy Weasley left, Fave line: Worf - Prune juice! Ah warrior's drink!
DS9 - eh
Voyager  - lacking
Enterprise - did not bother

ST: Voyage Home - because it was filmed in the Bay Area and the Monterey Bay Aquarium! I was at a SF Con when they talked about coming to SF the following year to film the movie. The audience wanted to know where they were going to film, i.e. Chinatown, etc. Oh what a geekfest that day was!
ST: In Search of Spock
ST: Undiscovered Country - Klingons changed their appearance

Hi everyone!

It just occurred to me that I forgot to share an amazing Season Three update with you all, regarding the pic that I use for my profile icon here!

As you may remember, Paramount+ made a three-season sequel series to "Star Trek: The Next Generation" called "Star Trek: Picard". Thanks to "Picard" Production Designer, Dave Blass, who had asked about a year earlier (on then-Twitter), for Star Trek fans to send him images of themselves in Star Trek cosplay for a secret reason that he was unable to explain. Thus, I had to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements and say nothing until the episodes aired! But where would my pics be visible? Would I be left on the cutting room floor?

I sent in a digital pic of me, taken in 1980(!), from the first time I ever tested blue pancake makeup on myself, and with the borrowed wig and attached blue antennae that I had made from papier-mâché.

Therin was framed (https://flic.kr/p/2nfvyPW) by Ian McLean (https://www.flickr.com/photos/therinofandor/), on Flickr

As publicity started to hot up for Season Two's premiere, it became obvious that both of my pics were visible in the publicity stills taken on the set Guinan's 10 Forward Avenue bar on Earth. The single pic had even been placed in a little wooden frame! I have since found one here that was almost the same, so I have mocked up a copy of the one from the set.

I had also sent in a scan of my first ever attempt at Photoshop, in which I had combined pics of me as Therin the Andorian (from 1984) and Grol the Tellarite (from 1983). Due to a followup email with the production people, I assumed that this pic wasn't actually going to be used, but it is there, in several places, one just above the framed one of Therin! Even the Therin shot can be found several other places on the set, including as little faux Polaroids.

Week after week, for nine episodes, though, I searched in vain. Then, in the finale (tenth episode) of "Star Trek: Picard" Season 2, Therin of Andor himself finally made his (still blurry) onscreen appearance when the main characters gather in the bar:

A friend with keen eyes spotted a second (tiny) version of the Therin/Grol pic in the season finale, sharing the same scene with Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan. He even marked the position in red and added an enlargement into the frame grab for me:

But, another whole year later, there is more news! Season Three started streaming and my framed Therin pic was actually getting more blurry coverage in several more episodes. First, this happened!:

And finally here,  in "No Win Scenario" (Episode #4), actor Ed Speleers actually tells an anecdote about an Andorian, while I hung on the wall behind him!

I have been in Trek fandom since 1979 - and now two of my fan characters are "canon"!
