Has anyone else noticed the recent resurgence in old VHS tapes? As a music lover, I understand why vinyl came back. But VHS tapes? I couldn't wait to get Burial Ground and Gates of Hell on DVD so I could actually see what was happening, because my VHS copies were so dark and grainy I couldn't make out some of the scenes. Again, just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
I have tons of material on VHS that I don't have on disc.
I have noticed that stores like Best Buy, etc. have begun restocking video cassette recorders and players- and they are selling, however movies and such on VHS are only available via internet stores.
It would be stunning if VHS made even a modest comeback.
The biggest problem with video tape is that it eventually disintegrates and you're left with nothing (just like film). If you have anything you want to keep for a long time, better get it transferred to a digital medium.

If you go on ebay and poke around, some of the old Wizard and Thriller video releases are getting well over $50. My Thriller Video release of Make Them Die Slowly has tripled in price since I bought it 13 years ago. Who would have thought?

It seems, Unicorn, Wizard, Gorgon and Vestron video are the leaders in the secondary market. Which surprises
me. Considering thoses VHS companies haven't been around for years. Except for Gorgon, that is the only company that has made the move to the DVD market.
Titles such as:
Mardi Gras Massacre
Make 'em die Slowly
Driller Killer
Blood Feast
Gore, Gore Girls
Have risen in value, due to their initial release as a Big Box. The Big Box
VHS, has certainly taken the market by storm.
Has anyone heard about the recent Wizard Video re-issues? Apparently Charles Band found a stash of the old big box covers and is basically copying over the tapes, so you're paying $50 for the big box and a copy of a VHS.

It's not that big of a deal. I was just curious. I bring it up because a lot of people are complaining online calling Charles Band a "crook" for selling an old VHS box for $50 with a copied tape inside.
I prefer DVD, but I have a lot of films (Boris Picket's "Monster Mash" and "Daring Young Men in their Jaunty Jalopies") that have never had a DVD or Blu-ray release. Also, I'm alright enough with VHS, to not feel the need to replace many of them with DVD's, because of basic frugality.
