Since the Count is European I would expect a European accent. Other than that, at least they're getting the character out there in front of people which is a good thing. Although I've never seen it, my daughter loves Downton Abbey and if the same folks who produced that are doing this that's probably a good thing as well.
The trailer for the show seems pretty interesting.

I though the same thing, though Dracula's voice is not deep enough imo.
I'm gonna be the negative nancy and say i think they turned the count into a little girl. I find elements interesting and other elements i find lame. I think they missed the mark to make something great but we'll see.
No, sorry, but this isn't "Dracula." It could end up being a very good vampire drama, but they should've created a new vampire character that fit into this story, instead of changing Dracula to fit their needs. Then, he ceases to be Dracula, anyway. "Forever Knight" is a great example of a vampire series created from whole cloth (even if the original pilot film, "Nick Knight," was pretty lame).

Did you expect it would be? I was basically expecting what I saw in the trailer. After Bates Motel, I've come to accept that we'll never get anything on-par with the originals again... :'(

There have been different versions of Dracula, some better than others, but how can one say this isn't Dracula? Lugois, Lee, Langella, Oldman, have all played Dracula, and there have been huge differances in their interpertation of the role. This may not even be a good interpetation of the role, but considering how many different ways Stoker's Count has been played by different players, I think it's enough to say that one doesn't like this actor is playing the part.
I'm a Dracula fanatic and I'll give the series a try, but it looks like their going for the Francis Coppalla style vampire than the actual Bram Stoker model.Still, it might be fun. So long as it dosen't suck Zombie LOL.....ok i'm sorry for that one)

My thoughts exactly. Since this is Universal, they have to do something that is distinctly not Universal. ;D

Well, that was Fox. They couldn't do "The Wolf Man: The Series," even though "Werewolf" came pretty close. They changed up a few parts of werewolf folklore, including the bit about killing the head of the bloodline to end the curse.
I don't expect a "Dracula" series to just be a long-form adaptation of Stoker's novel. There would need to be some changes. But, this looks more like Steampunk Tony Stark: Vampire, than "Dracula." I'd like some Dracula with my Dracula! Just like I would have appreciated some Barnabas Collins with my "Dark Shadows." Warner Bros., Burton, and Depp felt otherwise.
What intrigues me about this show is the fact that the following names appear in the character list on IMDB: Lady Jane and Mr. Browning. How cool is that?

Not very, if the show stinks on ice.

There's a new longer trailer out that shows some vampire carnage.

Still not impressed. The guy playing Dracula is just so bland and uninteresting. A pretty-boy, even with fangs and covered in blood. I don't sense any menace or ferocity from him.

Of course, this is coming from NBC.
The same network that is "re-imagining" the old Raymond Burr series Ironside.
And moving it to New York and casting Blair Underwood to play the title character. ::)
Hopefully, this Dracula series won't be too bad.
Downton Abbey is a pretty good series, albeit slow.
Great sets, good costumes and props, and reasonably historically accurate.
So I am expecting episodes that are visually interesting combined with snail-race pacing.
The Network only greenlighted ten episodes, of which, apparently six are completed.
If VanHelsing kills him off before episode ten, there might be hope for the series.
Couldn't Van Helsing just kill him offscreen prior to episode one? :P

Great idea. Except they'd probably inflict six to ten prequel and/or backstory episodes on us. :P
Now, maybe if VanHelsing drove a stake through the producers . . . ::)

If his Dracula is as bad as his Elvis, the show could turn out to be the comedy hit of the year! ;D

I think you may have a point LP!
After all he did for Henry VIII in The Tudors His version of Dracula could be pretty bizarre.
Here he is Henry VIII at 5'10" and maybe 170 lbs and a 30" waist.

Here is the man he was portraying. 6'3" 350 lbs--his last suit had a 54 inch waist-- and an estimated BMI of 42 (30 is obese)

Is it just me, or does he always look like he was carved from a piece of wood.
Nah, wood is more lifelike.
When did Elvis turn into Joe Cocker?
Actually, young Henry VIII was very athletic. He wasn't obese until several injuries limited his abilities to walk and play sports. Like a lot of former athletes, once you stop being active, muscles turns to fat very quickly. And, when you're still consuming lots of calories, but not burning it off, that'll pile on even more weight. That's basically what happened to him.

Yes, the young Henry was quite the athelete. And he was very strong and active until he was severely injured in a jousting accident in 1536.
However, The Tudors series ended in 1547. By that time the Real Henry VIII was physically incapacitated by obesity, ulcerating wounds in his legs, and probably, Type II Diabetes.
In the Showtime version, he was still fairly slim and mobile up to the end. But as the Tudors' creator Michael Hirst said, "Showtime commissioned me to write an entertainment, a soap opera, and not history ... And we wanted people to watch it."

Yeah, this guy flat out SUCKS in a Keanu-type way. His spastic take on Elvis was an embarrassment. Based on this alone, my hopes are extremely low.
BTW.............crap like this simply underlines the brilliance of Elvis.

Almost fell off my chair laughing at that............cuz it's true.
