Wasn't she in litigation regarding #7 with Ms. Peterson (and her producers) at one point?

I knew eight out of ten things. I'm a Maila Nurmi fan/nerd. But definitely a cool post. Oh!!!! One more thing.  Vampira(
M. Nurmi) was also featured in LIFE magazine, 1954.

What a shame her shows weren't preserved, very little has survived except one short promo I saw on Youtube.  Has anybody ever done a model of her?

There is one garage kit I know of. My Father bought one and eventually finished the kit around 1993. Other than that,
there maybe more? Did you ever see the maquette? I bought one in 2005. So cool!

I agree, HH. This is truly classic nostalgia.

QuoteTop Ten Things you didn't know about VAMPIRA

1. She was Blonde. I guess...
2. She won an Emmy.
3. Her name was Maila Nurmi.
4. She took her look from Cartoonist Charles Adams.
5. Her show ran 50 episodes.
6. She refused to sell-out to ABC.
7. Elvira copied her.
8. James Dean appeared in one show uncredited.
9. She performed a show in Vegas with Liberace.
10. She was paid $75 per episode.
1. I knew this.
2. I knew this.
3. I knew this.
4. It's Addams, two "d"'s.
5. I knew this.
6. I knew this.
7. Not really. Cassandra Peterson originally wanted to play the character as a ghostly redhead, similar to Sharon Tate's look in "The Fearless Vampire Killers." It was the station that wanted her to adopt the all-black dress, pale skin, and black hair, a la Vampira. She helped develop Elvira's smartass, "undead Valley Girl" persona to distinguish her from Vampira. Yes, there was litigation. It was eventually dismissed. Some claim Nurmi purposely missed a court date because she knew the lawsuit was going to be dismissed. Others say she missed it because...well, she was old!
8. I knew this. They were very good friends, actually.
9. I knew this.
10. I didn't know this!

Outside of wearing a dress inspired by Morticia Addams, and hosting a horror show, these two ladies honestly had nothing in common.  Vampira performed in a more macabre manner, while Elvira took her part a lot less seriously., playing up the humor.
Interestingly enough, there was a character called "Vampira" in a saturday morning series called "Drak Pack", which ran from September 1980 to September 1982 on CBS., and her look and character did seem  to be inspired by the TV horror host.

I remember the Drak Pack cartoon. I wonder if the show was ever released on DVD?
