I recently scored these Hopping Horror wind-ups. I had seen photos of them online & was searching for awhile. And then I happened to come across a whole box!
Does anyone else collect these guys?
I figured a would share some pics because these toys are so cool.
Those are sweet! Especially love the box art! It would look great next to my rubber face finger puppet b0x!
I knew a guy who collected wind-ups that was looking to complete a set of these (this is like 15 years ago). When I was a kid, I bought the spider at the local toy/stationery store.
Those are sweet. Having the display box to go with them is a lot more sweet. What vintage are they?
f&*% these area sweeeeeet, good find!
I should think they are 80s or newer, based on the "CAUTION- NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4? YEARS OF AGE" warning sticker on the box.

No-- I bought one when I was about 10, which was '69.
But are these "original issue"? The box/inserts look very white for 45 years old. They have been making those little Creature/Kong windups for 30 years, the rubber "prisoners", etc. Just sayin' that CAUTION tag appears newer than 60s...they didn't care what we stuck in our gullets back then.
These were made by Daishin in Japan in the 1960s. The have a vinyl body but metal feet & wind up mechanism.
The box was old dead stock & I have no idea how it survived in such great shape all this time.
These toys also came boxed individually aswell. Here's a pic I found if some with boxes...

And here's a pic of a wind up I scored last year from Japan. It looks like it was made by the same company as the rest...

I agree. The CAUTION warning would imply that the box at least was from a production run much later than the sixties.
:-\
Yeah, sixties monsterkids weren't wimps.
I love these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never seen them, are they in USA ONLY? I'm in Canada. Martil.
There seems to have been a "warehouse find" from a seller on ebay. I bought an extra and sent links to friends who also bought these. All appeared to be unused and mint with no box fading. For some reason all of these sets were missing a character that i have in my original box.
Well I found myself a box! Awesome!! but unfortunately it only had 8 hoppers in it and two were doubles. so I have an extra snake and tiger, so I only have six i need. so if anyone has doubles they would trade or $ell me, please let me know.
I need the cannibal, gorilla, hippo, lion, and the bull skull. or if there is another i dont know about.
Thanks!
Monsternik the boxes I have seen usually have only 10 variants & 2 doubles. In my box there was a double of the Leopard (but one has yellow eyes & one has blue eyes). And there is also two of the Skull with the Mohawk. Both versions of the Skull look to be the same.
I'm not sure if they ever came with 12 different versions though.
If youll look closer you do have 11 different ones, one is a cheetah, and the other is a tiger. the stripes on one and spots on the other. Hopefully I can get the ones i am missing, the Hitler Hippo really cracks me up, and the cracked out gorilla! dont even get me started on the cannibal, he's absolutely the best! I really wish i would have seen one of the earlier sets that sold in the last couple weeks. the boxes were much nicer than the one im getting. But honestly im just happy to be getting one. I remember last year seeing just a boxtop alone sell for around $70, I saved the picture of it on my computer. and had been looking for another off on on for quite awhile, but slacked off my search and sure enough i missed out on these 4 or 5 that sold for $99 complete boxes, and full of wind ups!! More may still turn up however, fingers crossed.
